od Česká biblická společnost1 Když jsme to již nemohli déle vydržet, rozhodli jsme se zůstat v Athénách sami2 a poslali jsme Timotea, našeho bratra a Božího spolupracovníka v evangeliu Kristově, aby vás utvrdil a povzbudil ve vaší víře,3 aby se nikdo nedal zviklat v těchto souženích; neboť sami víte, že to je náš úděl.4 Když jsme byli u vás, předpovídali jsme vám, že na nás přijdou soužení; a to se také, jak vidíte, stalo.5 A tak když jsem to již déle nemohl vydržet, poslal jsem Timotea, abych poznal vaši víru, zdali vás snad pokušitel nesvedl, takže by naše námaha vyšla naprázdno.6 Nyní však přišel Timoteus od vás a přinesl radostnou zprávu o vaší víře a lásce i o tom, jak na nás stále v dobrém vzpomínáte a toužíte nás spatřit stejně jako my vás.7 Tak jste nás, bratří, ve vší naší tísni a soužení potěšili svou vírou.8 Nyní jsme zase živi, když vy pevně stojíte v Pánu.9 Jakou chválou se můžeme Bohu odvděčit za všecku tu radost, kterou z vás máme před jeho tváří?10 Ve dne v noci vroucně prosíme, abychom vás mohli spatřit a doplnit, čeho se nedostává vaší víře. 11 Sám náš Bůh a Otec i Ježíš, náš Pán, kéž připraví naši cestu k vám!12 Nechť Pán dá bohatě růst vaší vzájemné lásce i lásce ke všem, tak jako i my vás milujeme,13 ať posílí vaše srdce, abyste byli bezúhonní a svatí před Bohem, naším Otcem, až přijde náš Pán Ježíš se všemi svými svatými.
