1On a Sabbath,[1] while he was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. (申23:25; 太12:1; 可2:23)2But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath?” (出20:9; 太9:11)3And Jesus answered them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: (撒上21:1; 太21:16)4how he entered the house of God and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?” (出25:30; 利24:5)5And he said to them, “The Son of Man is lord of the Sabbath.” (路5:24)
A Man with a Withered Hand
6On another Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose right hand was withered. (太12:9; 可3:1; 可6:2)7And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse him. (路11:54; 路14:1; 路20:20; 约8:6)8But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man with the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. (太9:4)9And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?” (路14:3)10And after looking around at them all he said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored. (王上13:4; 可3:34; 可5:32; 可10:21; 可10:23)11But they were filled with fury and discussed with one another what they might do to Jesus. (提后3:9)
The Twelve Apostles
12In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God. Jesus Ministers to a Great Multitude
17And he came down with them and stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, (太4:25; 太5:1; 太11:21; 可3:7; 路6:12)18who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases. And those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. (太4:24)19And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all. (太14:36; 可3:10; 路8:46; 徒5:15)
The Beatitudes
20And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. (太5:3; 路12:32; 约6:5)21“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. (赛25:8; 赛57:18; 太5:4; 路1:53)22“Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! Jesus Pronounces Woes
24“But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. (摩6:1; 太6:2; 路12:21; 路16:25; 雅5:1)25“Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. “Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Love Your Enemies
27“But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, (箴25:21; 太5:44; 羅12:20)28bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. (路6:27; 彼前3:9)29To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic[2] either. (赛50:6; 哀3:30; 太5:39; 太26:67; 羅12:17)30Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. (诗37:21; 箴21:26)31And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them. (太7:12)32“If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. (太5:46)33And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.34And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. (诗37:26; 箴19:17; 太5:42; 路14:12)35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. Judging Others
37“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; (太6:14; 太7:1; 太18:23; 路6:41; 羅14:13; 林前4:5; 雅5:9)38give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.” (士1:7; 诗79:12; 赛65:6; 可4:24; 林后9:6)39He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? (太15:14)40A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher. (太10:24; 林前1:10; 林后13:11; 提后3:17; 來13:21; 彼前5:10)41Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? (路6:37; 约8:7)42How can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.
A Tree and Its Fruit
43“For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, (太7:16; 太7:20)44for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush. (太12:33)45The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (太5:37; 太12:34; 太12:35; 太13:52; 太15:18; 弗4:29)
Build Your House on the Rock
46“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? (玛1:6; 太7:21; 约13:13)47Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: (太7:24)48he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.[3]49But the one who hears and does not do them is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the stream broke against it, immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.” (结13:10; 摩6:11)
