1And the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. (太12:38; 可8:11; 路11:16; 路21:11; 约8:6; 林前1:22)2He answered them,[1] “When it is evening, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red.’ (路12:54)3And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. (太12:28; 路12:56; 路19:44)4An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed. (太4:13; 太12:39; 太21:17)
The Leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5When the disciples reached the other side, they had forgotten to bring any bread.6Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” (路12:1; 林前5:6; 加5:9)7And they began discussing it among themselves, saying, “We brought no bread.”8But Jesus, aware of this, said, “O you of little faith, why are you discussing among yourselves the fact that you have no bread? (太6:30; 太26:10)9Do you not yet perceive? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? (太14:17; 太15:16)10Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many baskets you gathered? (太15:34)11How is it that you fail to understand that I did not speak about bread? Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” (太16:6)12Then they understood that he did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Peter Confesses Jesus as the Christ
13Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” (可8:27; 路9:18)14And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” (太14:2; 太17:10; 可6:14; 可6:15; 可9:11; 路9:7; 路9:8; 约1:21)15He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”16Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (申5:26; 书3:10; 诗42:2; 耶10:10; 但6:20; 何1:10; 太1:17; 太14:33; 约11:27; 徒14:15; 林后3:3; 提前4:10)17And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. (太11:25; 太13:16; 约1:42; 约6:45; 约21:15; 林前2:10; 林前12:3; 林前15:50; 加1:16; 弗6:12; 來2:14)18And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock[2] I will build my church, and the gates of hell[3] shall not prevail against it. (伯38:17; 赛38:10; 太7:24; 太10:2; 太11:23; 约1:42; 弗2:20; 启21:14)19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed[4] in heaven.” (赛22:22; 太18:18; 约20:23; 启1:18; 启3:7)20Then he strictly charged the disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ. Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
21From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. (太17:12; 太17:22; 太20:17; 太20:18; 太27:63; 可8:31; 路9:22; 路13:33; 路24:7; 约2:19)22And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord![5] This shall never happen to you.”23But he turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance[6] to me. For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” (太4:10; 太13:41; 羅8:5; 腓2:5; 腓3:19; 西3:2)
Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus
24Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (太10:38; 提后2:12)25For whoever would save his life[7] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. (太16:24)26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? (诗49:7; 路12:20)27For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. (申33:2; 但7:10; 但7:13; 亚14:5; 太13:41; 太24:30; 太25:31; 太26:64; 约1:51; 徒1:11; 徒10:42; 羅2:6; 羅14:12; 林前3:8; 林后5:10; 帖前1:10; 帖前4:16; 來9:27; 彼前1:17; 犹1:14; 启1:7; 启2:23; 启20:12; 启22:12)28Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.” (太10:23; 太23:36; 太24:34; 路23:42; 约8:52; 來2:9)
