1 Cuando te sientes a comer con un señor, Considera bien al que está ante ti, 2 Y pon cuchillo a tu garganta, Si eres dado a la gula. 3 No codicies sus manjares delicados, Porque es pan engañoso. 4 No te afanes por hacer riquezas, Sé prudente, y desiste, 5 Pues le echas una mirada, y ya no están, Han echado alas como un águila que vuela a los cielos. 6 No te sientes a comer con el avaro, Ni codicies sus manjares, 7 Porque según piensa en su alma, así es; Come y bebe, te dirá, Pero su corazón no está contigo; 8 Vomitarás el bocado que comiste, Y habrás malgastado tus cumplidos. 9 No hables a oídos insensatos, Porque despreciarán tus sensatas razones. 10 No remuevas el lindero antiguo, Ni te metas en el campo de los huérfanos, 11 Porque su Redentor es fuerte, Y defenderá la causa de ellos ante ti. 12 Aplica tu corazón a la enseñanza, Y tus oídos a las palabras sabias. 13 No escatimes corregir al muchacho, Si lo castigas con vara, no morirá. 14 Lo castigarás con vara, Y librarás su alma del Seol. 15 Hijo mío, si tu corazón llega a ser sabio, También a mí se me alegrará el corazón, 16 También se alegrarán mis riñones, Cuando tus labios hablen cosas rectas. 17 No tengas envidia de los pecadores, Antes, persevera en el temor de YHVH en todo tiempo, 18 Porque ciertamente hay un porvenir, Y tu esperanza no será frustrada. 19 Oye tú, hijo mío, y sé sabio, Y dirige tu corazón por el buen camino. 20 No te juntes con los bebedores de vino, Ni con los comilones de carne, 21 Porque el ebrio y el glotón se empobrecen, Y el dormitar hace vestir harapos. 22 Escucha al padre que te engendró, Y no desprecies a tu madre cuando sea anciana. 23 Compra la verdad y no la vendas, También sensatez, educación y prudencia. 24 El padre del justo se alegrará en gran manera, El que engendra un hijo sabio se gozará con él. 25 ¡Alégrense tu padre y tu madre, Y regocíjese la que te concibió! 26 Dame, hijo mío, tu corazón, Y observen tus ojos mis caminos, 27 Porque hoyo profundo es la ramera, Y abismo profundo la mujer ajena. 28 También ella, como salteador, acecha, Y provoca traiciones entre los hombres. 29 ¿De quién son los ayes? ¿De quién las tristezas? ¿De quién las contiendas? ¿De quién el quejido? ¿De quién las heridas sin causa? ¿De quién los ojos enrojecidos? 30 De quien se alarga en el vino, De los que van catando licores mezclados. 31 No mires al vino cuando rojea, Y lanza destellos en la copa, Porque fluye suavemente, 32 Pero al fin, muerde como una serpiente; Pica como una víbora. 33 Tus ojos desearán la mujer ajena, Y tu corazón hablará cosas perversas, 34 Y serás como el que está acostado en alta mar, Como el que duerme en el cabo de un mástil, 35 Y dirás: Me han golpeado y no me ha dolido, Me han sacudido y no lo he sentido, En cuanto despierte, volveré a pedir más.

1 When you sit down to eat with a ruler, observe carefully what^[1] is before you, 2 and put a knife to your throat if you are given to appetite. 3 Do not desire his delicacies, for they are deceptive food. 5 When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven. (Pr 27:24) 6 Do not eat the bread of a man who is stingy;^[2] do not desire his delicacies, (Dt 15:9; Sal 141:4; Pr 23:3; Pr 28:22)

7 for he is like one who is inwardly calculating.^[3] “Eat and drink!” he says to you, but his heart is not with you. (Sal 12:2) 8 You will vomit up the morsels that you have eaten, and waste your pleasant words. 9 Do not speak in the hearing of a fool, for he will despise the good sense of your words. 10 Do not move an ancient landmark or enter the fields of the fatherless, (Pr 22:28) 11 for their Redeemer is strong; he will plead their cause against you. 21 for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags. (Pr 6:10) 22 Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. 31 Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. 32 In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. (Job 20:16) 33 Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. (Pr 2:12) 34 You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast.^[8] 35 “They struck me,” you will say,^[9] “but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it.
