1When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. (Mt 28:1; Mr 1:32; Mr 15:40; Lc 23:56; Lc 24:1; Jn 19:39; Jn 20:1)2And very early on the first day of the week, when the sun had risen, they went to the tomb.3And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance of the tomb?” (Mr 15:46)4And looking up, they saw that the stone had been rolled back—it was very large. (Mt 27:60)5And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were alarmed. (Dn 7:9; Mr 9:3; Mr 9:15; Jn 20:11; Jn 20:12; Hch 1:10; Ap 6:11; Ap 7:9)6And he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. (Mr 16:5)7But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.” (Mr 14:28)8And they went out and fled from the tomb, for trembling and astonishment had seized them, and they said nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.
Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene
9[1][[Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had cast out seven demons. (Mt 28:9; Lc 8:2; Jn 20:14)10She went and told those who had been with him, as they mourned and wept. (Mt 28:10; Lc 6:25; Lc 24:10; Jn 16:20; Jn 20:18)11But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it. (Mr 16:16; Lc 24:11)
Jesus Appears to Two Disciples
12After these things he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country. (Mr 16:14; Lc 9:29; Lc 24:13; Jn 21:1; Jn 21:14)13And they went back and told the rest, but they did not believe them. (Lc 24:33)
