1 Dos días después era la pascua y los ázimos. Y los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo prenderlo por engaño para hacer que lo mataran. 2 Pero decían: ¡En la fiesta, no! No sea que se produzca un tumulto en el pueblo. 3 Y estando en Betania, en la casa de Simón el leproso, estaba reclinado a la mesa y vino una mujer portando un frasco de alabastro con perfume de nardo puro muy costoso; y quebrando el frasco de alabastro, lo derramó sobre su cabeza. 4 Y algunos bramaron entre sí: ¿Por qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de perfume? 5 Porque este perfume podía ser vendido por más de trescientos denarios y dado a los pobres. Y la criticaban duramente. 6 Pero Jesús dijo: Dejadla, ¿por qué le causáis aflicción? Buena obra ha hecho conmigo, 7 porque a los pobres siempre los tenéis con vosotros, y cuando queráis les podéis hacer bien, pero a mí no siempre me tenéis. 8 Ha hecho lo que tenía a mano: Se anticipó a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura. 9 De cierto os digo: Dondequiera que sea predicado el evangelio en todo el mundo, también se hablará de lo que ésta hizo, para memoria de ella. 10 Judas Iscariote, uno de los doce, fue a los principales sacerdotes para entregárselo. 11 Y ellos se alegraron al oírlo, y prometieron darle plata. Y buscaba cómo entregarlo cuando fuera oportuno. 12 El primer día de los ázimos, cuando sacrificaban la pascua, le dicen sus discípulos: ¿Dónde quieres que vayamos a preparar lo necesario para que comas la pascua? 13 Y envía a dos de sus discípulos y les dice: Id a la ciudad, y os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Seguidlo, 14 y donde entre, decid al señor de la casa que el Maestro dice: ¿Dónde está mi aposento para que coma la pascua con mis discípulos? 15 Y él os mostrará un gran aposento alto, amueblado y dispuesto. Preparad allí para nosotros. 16 Salieron, pues, los discípulos y fueron a la ciudad y encontraron tal como les dijo, y prepararon la pascua. 17 Llegada la tarde, va con los doce, 18 y estando ellos reclinados a la mesa y comiendo, Jesús dijo: De cierto os digo que uno de vosotros, que está comiendo conmigo, me entregará. 19 Comenzaron a entristecerse y a decirle uno por uno: ¿Acaso yo? 20 Él les respondió: Uno de los doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato. 21 El Hijo del Hombre se va, tal como está escrito de Él; pero, ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del Hombre es entregado! Más le valdría a ese hombre no haber nacido. 22 Estando ellos comiendo, tomó el pan, y pronunciando la bendición, lo partió y les dio, y dijo: Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo. 23 Y tomando la copa, dio gracias y les dio, y todos bebieron de ella. 24 Y les dijo: Esto es mi sangre del pacto, la cual es derramada por muchos. 25 De cierto os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid hasta el día aquel en que lo beba nuevo en el reino de Dios. 26 Y después de cantar un himno, salieron hacia el monte de los Olivos. 27 Les dice Jesús: Todos os escandalizaréis, porque está escrito: Heriré al pastor, y las ovejas serán dispersadas. 28 Pero, después de haber resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea. 29 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Aunque todos se escandalicen, yo no. 30 Le dice Jesús: De cierto te digo que hoy, en esta misma noche, antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces. 31 Pero él repetía con porfía: Aunque tenga que morir contigo, de ningún modo te negaré. Y así también decían todos. 32 Llegan a un sitio cuyo nombre es Getsemaní, y dice a sus discípulos: Sentaos aquí, hasta que ore. 33 Y toma consigo a Pedro, Jacobo y Juan. Entonces se quedó perplejo y comenzó a angustiarse. 34 Y les dice: Una tristeza mortal so­brecoge mi alma. ¡Esperad aquí y velad! 35 Y yendo un poco más adelante, se postraba en tierra y oraba que si era posible, pasara de Él aquella hora. 36 Y decía: ¡Abba (Padre), todas las cosas son posibles para ti! ¡Aparta de mí esta copa! pero no lo que Yo quiero, sino lo que Tú. 37 Vuelve y los encuentra durmiendo, y dice a Pedro: Simón, ¿duermes? ¿No pudiste velar una hora? 38 Velad y orad, para que no entréis en tentación. El espíritu a la verdad está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil. 39 Y yendo otra vez, oró diciendo las mismas palabras. 40 Volviendo, otra vez los halló durmiendo, porque sus ojos eran incapaces de mantenerse abiertos, y no sabían qué responderle. 41 Y vuelve la tercera vez y les dice: Dormid lo que resta y descansad. ¡Basta! Llegó la hora. He aquí que el Hijo del Hombre es entregado en las manos de los pecadores. 42 ¡Levantaos! ¡Vamos! He aquí que está cerca el que me entrega. 43 Y al momento, estando aún hablando, se presenta Judas (uno de los doce), y con él una turba con espadas y garrotes, de parte de los principales sacerdotes, de los escribas y de los ancianos. 44 Y el que lo entregaba les había dado una contraseña, diciéndoles: Al que yo bese, él es; prendedlo y llevadlo custodiado. 45 Y llegando, de inmediato se acercó a Él, y le dice: Rabbí, y lo besó aparatosamente. 46 Entonces ellos le echaron mano y lo prendieron. 47 Pero uno de los presentes, desenvainando la espada, hirió al siervo del sumo sacerdote y le quitó la oreja. 48 Y tomando la palabra Jesús, les dijo: ¿Como contra un bandido salisteis con espadas y garrotes a apresarme? 49 Cada día estaba con vosotros enseñando en el templo, y no me prendisteis. Así sea, para que se cumplan las Escrituras. 50 Y abandonándolo, huyeron todos. 51 También prendieron a cierto joven que lo seguía cubierto con una sábana sobre su cuerpo. 52 Pero él, dejando la sábana, huyó desnudo. 53 Llevaron a Jesús ante el sumo sacerdote, y se reúnen todos los principales sacerdotes, los ancianos y los escribas. 54 Y Pedro lo siguió de lejos, hasta dentro del patio del sumo sacerdote, y estaba sentado con los criados calentándose al fuego. 55 Y los sumos sacerdotes y todo el Sanedrín buscaban testimonio contra Jesús para darle muerte, pero no lo hallaban. 56 Porque muchos daban falso testimonio contra Él, pero los testimonios no coincidían. 57 Hasta que se levantaron unos que dieron falso testimonio contra Él, diciendo: 58 Nosotros lo oímos decir: Yo derribaré este santuario hecho por manos, y en tres días edificaré otro no hecho por manos. 59 Pero ni aun así estaba de acuerdo su testimonio. 60 Y levantándose en medio, el sumo sacerdote preguntó a Jesús, diciendo: ¿No respondes nada de lo que testifican éstos contra ti? 61 Pero Él callaba y nada respondió. El sumo sacerdote le pregunta otra vez, y le dice: ¿Eres tú el Mesías, el Hijo del Bendito? 62 Jesús respondió: Yo soy. Y veréis al Hijo del Hombre sentado a la diestra del Poder y viniendo en las nubes del cielo. 63 Entonces el sumo sacerdote, rasgando sus vestiduras, dice: ¿Qué necesidad tenemos ya de testigos? 64 Oísteis la blasfemia, ¿qué os parece? Y todos ellos lo condenaron diciendo que era reo de muerte. 65 Y algunos comenzaron a escupirlo, a cubrirle el rostro, a darle puñetazos y a decirle: ¡Profetiza! También los guardias lo recibieron a bofetadas. 66 Y estando Pedro abajo en el patio, aparece una de las criadas del sumo sacerdote, 67 y viendo a Pedro calentándose, después de mirarlo fijamente, dice: ¡También tú estabas con ese Jesús, el nazareno! 68 Pero él negó, diciendo: Ni sé ni entiendo qué es lo que tú dices. Y salió afuera al portal. 69 Y la criada, al verlo, comenzó de nuevo a decir a los presentes: ¡Éste es uno de ellos! 70 Pero él negaba otra vez. Y poco después, los presentes decían otra vez a Pedro: ¡En verdad eres de ellos, pues también eres galileo! 71 Y él comenzó a maldecir y a jurar: ¡No conozco al hombre que decís! 72 Y enseguida cantó el gallo por segunda vez. Y recordó Pedro la palabra como le había dicho Jesús: Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces. Y rompió a llorar.

1 It was now two days before the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread. And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to arrest him by stealth and kill him, (Mt 21:46; Mt 26:2; Lc 22:1; Jn 6:4; Jn 11:53) 2 for they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar from the people.” (Mt 27:24) 3 And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper,[1] as he was reclining at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly, and she broke the flask and poured it over his head. (Mt 21:17; Mt 26:6; Lc 7:37; Jn 11:18; Jn 12:1) 4 There were some who said to themselves indignantly, “Why was the ointment wasted like that? 5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii[2] and given to the poor.” And they scolded her. (Jn 11:33; Jn 11:38; Jn 13:29) 6 But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing to me. 7 For you always have the poor with you, and whenever you want, you can do good for them. But you will not always have me. (Dt 15:11; Mr 2:20; Jn 7:33; 2 Co 9:7) 8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for burial. (Mr 12:43; Lc 21:3; Jn 19:40; 2 Co 8:12) 9 And truly, I say to you, wherever the gospel is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in memory of her.” (Mt 24:14; Hch 10:4) 10 Then Judas Iscariot, who was one of the twelve, went to the chief priests in order to betray him to them. And he sought an opportunity to betray him. (Mt 20:18) 12 And on the first day of Unleavened Bread, when they sacrificed the Passover lamb, his disciples said to him, “Where will you have us go and prepare for you to eat the Passover?” (Ex 12:18; Mt 26:17; Lc 22:7; 1 Co 5:7) 13 And he sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him, (Mr 11:1) 14 and wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, Where is my guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ (Lc 2:7; Jn 11:28) 15 And he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready; there prepare for us.” (Hch 1:13) 16 And the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told them, and they prepared the Passover. 17 And when it was evening, he came with the twelve. (Mt 26:20; Lc 22:14; Lc 22:21; Jn 13:21) 18 And as they were reclining at table and eating, Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” (Sal 41:9; Jn 6:70; Jn 13:18) 19 They began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another, “Is it I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the dish with me. (Mr 14:10; Mr 14:18) 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! (Mt 21:1; Mt 26:30; Lc 22:39; Jn 18:1) 27 And Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.’ (Zac 13:7; Jn 16:32) 28 But after I am raised up, I will go before you to Galilee.” (Mt 28:7; Mt 28:10; Mt 28:16; Mr 16:7) 29 Peter said to him, “Even though they all fall away, I will not.” (Lc 22:31; Lc 22:33) 30 And Jesus said to him, “Truly, I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” (Mr 14:68; Mr 14:72; Lc 22:34; Jn 13:38) 31 But he said emphatically, “If I must die with you, I will not deny you.” And they all said the same. (Jn 13:37) 32 And they went to a place called Gethsemane. And he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” (Mt 26:36; Mr 14:26; Lc 22:40) 33 And he took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be greatly distressed and troubled. Could you not watch one hour? 38 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Mt 6:13; Mr 14:34; 1 P 4:7) 39 And again he went away and prayed, saying the same words. (Mr 14:36) 40 And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy, and they did not know what to answer him. (Mr 9:6; Lc 9:32; Lc 9:33) 41 And he came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come. The Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. (Mr 9:31; Mr 10:33; Mr 14:35; Lc 22:38) 42 Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.” 43 And immediately, while he was still speaking, Judas came, one of the twelve, and with him a crowd with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and the scribes and the elders. (Mt 26:47; Mr 14:10; Lc 22:47; Jn 18:3; Hch 1:16) 44 Now the betrayer had given them a sign, saying, “The one I will kiss is the man. Seize him and lead him away under guard.” 45 And when he came, he went up to him at once and said, “Rabbi!” And he kissed him. (Lc 7:38; Lc 7:45; Lc 15:20; Jn 1:38; Hch 20:37) 46 And they laid hands on him and seized him. 47 But one of those who stood by drew his sword and struck the servant[5] of the high priest and cut off his ear. (Lc 22:38) 48 And Jesus said to them, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? 49 Day after day I was with you in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me. But let the Scriptures be fulfilled.” (Mt 1:22; Mt 4:23; Mt 21:23; Mr 14:21; Lc 2:46; Jn 8:2; Jn 18:20) 50 And they all left him and fled. And they seized him, (Jue 14:12; Pr 31:24; Mr 15:46) 52 but he left the linen cloth and ran away naked. 53 And they led Jesus to the high priest. And all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes came together. (Mt 26:57; Lc 22:54; Jn 18:12; Jn 18:19) 54 And Peter had followed him at a distance, right into the courtyard of the high priest. And he was sitting with the guards and warming himself at the fire. (Mt 26:3; Mr 14:53; Mr 14:67; Mr 14:68; Jn 7:32; Jn 18:3; Jn 18:15; Jn 18:18) 55 Now the chief priests and the whole council[6] were seeking testimony against Jesus to put him to death, but they found none. 56 For many bore false witness against him, but their testimony did not agree. (Dt 17:6; Dt 19:15; Sal 27:12; Sal 35:11) 57 And some stood up and bore false witness against him, saying, 58 “We heard him say, ‘I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and in three days I will build another, not made with hands.’” (Mr 15:29; Jn 2:19; Hch 6:14; Hch 7:48; Hch 17:24; 2 Co 5:1; Heb 9:11; Heb 9:24) 59 Yet even about this their testimony did not agree. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, “Have you no answer to make? What is it that these men testify against you?”[7] 61 But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?” (Is 53:7; Mt 1:17; Mr 8:29; Mr 15:4; Lc 22:67; Jn 19:9; Ro 1:25) 62 And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.” (Sal 110:1; Mt 16:27; Mt 24:30; Mr 16:19; Heb 1:3) 63 And the high priest tore his garments and said, “What further witnesses do we need? (Nm 14:6; Hch 14:14) 64 You have heard his blasphemy. What is your decision?” And they all condemned him as deserving death. (Lv 24:16; Mt 9:3; Lc 23:50; Jn 10:36) 65 And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to strike him, saying to him, “Prophesy!” And the guards received him with blows. (Est 7:8; Is 50:6; Mt 5:39; Mr 10:34; Mr 15:19; Lc 22:63; Hch 23:2) 66 And as Peter was below in the courtyard, one of the servant girls of the high priest came, (Mt 26:69; Lc 22:55; Jn 18:16; Jn 18:25) 67 and seeing Peter warming himself, she looked at him and said, “You also were with the Nazarene, Jesus.” (Mr 14:54) 68 But he denied it, saying, “I neither know nor understand what you mean.” And he went out into the gateway[8] and the rooster crowed.[9] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:72) 69 And the servant girl saw him and began again to say to the bystanders, “This man is one of them.” 70 But again he denied it. And after a little while the bystanders again said to Peter, “Certainly you are one of them, for you are a Galilean.” 71 But he began to invoke a curse on himself and to swear, “I do not know this man of whom you speak.” 72 And immediately the rooster crowed a second time. And Peter remembered how Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times.” And he broke down and wept.[10] (Mr 14:30; Mr 14:68; Hch 3:13)
