1 Después de convocar a los doce, les dio poder y autoridad sobre todos los demonios, y para sanar enfermedades. 2 Y los envió a proclamar el reino de Dios y a sanar. 3 Y les dijo: No toméis nada para el camino: ni bordón, ni alforja, ni pan, ni dinero, ni dos túnicas. 4 En cualquier casa en que entréis, posad allí y salid de allí. 5 Y dondequiera que no os reciban, saliendo de aquella ciudad, sacudid el polvo de vuestros pies, como testimonio contra ellos. 6 Ellos pues, recorrieron una por una las aldeas, anunciando las buenas nuevas y sanando por todas partes. 7 También el tetrarca Herodes oyó todo lo que hacía; y estaba perplejo, porque algunos decían: Juan ha resucitado de los muertos; 8 y otros: ¡Se apareció Elías! Y otros: ¡Resucitó un antiguo profeta! 9 Pero Herodes dijo: Yo decapité a Juan. ¿Quién es éste pues, de quien oigo tales cosas? Y procuraba verlo. 10 Cuando los apóstoles regresaron, le refirieron cuanto habían hecho. Y tomándolos consigo, se retiró aparte a una ciudad llamada Betsaida. 11 Pero al darse cuenta las multitudes, lo siguieron, y después de recibirlos, les hablaba acerca del reino de Dios, y sanaba a los que tenían necesidad de sanidad. 12 Al comenzar a declinar el día, se acercaron los doce y le dijeron: Despide a la multitud, para que vayan a las aldeas y alquerías en derredor y hallen hospedaje y consigan comida, porque aquí estamos en un lugar solitario. 13 Pero Él les dijo: Dadles vosotros de comer. Ellos dijeron: No tenemos más que cinco panes y dos peces; a no ser que vayamos nosotros y compremos comida para todo este pueblo. 14 Porque eran como cinco mil hombres. Entonces dijo a sus discípulos: Haced que se recuesten en grupos de cincuenta. 15 Y lo hicieron así, haciéndolos recostar a todos. 16 Tomando entonces los cinco panes y los dos peces, alzó los ojos al cielo, los bendijo y los partió, y los iba dando a los discípulos para que lo distribuyeran a la multitud. 17 Y todos comieron y se saciaron, y de lo que había sobrado se recogieron doce cestos de trozos. 18 Aconteció que estando orando a solas, los discípulos estaban con Él, y les preguntó, diciendo: ¿Quién dicen las gentes que soy Yo? 19 Y ellos respondiendo, dijeron: Juan el Bautista; y otros, Elías; y otros, que resucitó algún profeta de los antiguos. 20 Y les dijo: ¿Y vosotros, quién decís que soy Yo? Respondiendo Pedro, dijo: El Ungido de Dios. 21 Pero Él, con mandamiento riguroso, les ordenó no hablar esto a nadie, 22 y dijo: El Hijo del Hombre tiene que padecer muchas cosas, y ser rechazado por los ancianos, los principales sacerdotes y los escribas, y ser muerto y ser resucitado al tercer día. 23 Y a todos decía: Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, niéguese a sí mismo, y tome su cruz cada día y sígame. 24 Porque cualquiera que quiera salvar su vida, la perderá, y cualquiera que pierda su vida por causa de mí, la salvará. 25 Porque, ¿qué aprovecha al hombre ganar el mundo entero, si se pierde o se destruye a sí mismo? 26 Porque el que se avergüence de mí y de mis palabras, de éste se avergonzará el Hijo del Hombre cuando venga en su gloria, y la del Padre y de los santos ángeles. 27 En verdad os digo: Hay algunos de los que están aquí, que no gustarán la muerte hasta que vean el reino de Dios. 28 Como ocho días después de estas palabras, sucedió que tomando a Pedro, a Juan y a Jacobo, subió al monte a orar. 29 Y mientras oraba, la apariencia de su rostro se volvió diferente, y su vestido, blanco resplandeciente. 30 Y he aquí dos varones hablaban con Él, los cuales eran Moisés y Elías, 31 quienes, habiéndose aparecido en esplendor, hablaban del éxodo que Él estaba a punto de cumplir en Jerusalem. 32 Y Pedro y los que estaban con él se hallaban cargados de sueño, pero habiéndose sacudido el sueño, vieron su gloria, y a los dos varones que estaban con Él. 33 Y sucedió que al tiempo que ellos se apartaban de Él, dijo Pedro a Jesús: Maestro, bueno es quedarnos aquí y hacer tres tabernáculos: uno para ti, y otro para Moisés y otro para Elías (sin saber lo que decía). 34 Y diciendo él estas cosas, apareció una nube que los cubría con su sombra, y tuvieron temor al entrar en la nube. 35 Y de la nube vino una voz que decía: ¡Este es mi Hijo, el escogido: a Él oíd! 36 Y al venir la voz, Jesús fue hallado solo. Y ellos callaron, y en aquellos días nada dijeron a nadie de las cosas que habían visto. 37 Al día siguiente, aconteció que bajando del monte, les salió al encuentro una gran multitud. 38 Y he aquí un varón de la multitud clamó diciendo: Maestro, te ruego que veas atentamente a mi hijo, que es mi unigénito; 39 porque he aquí un espíritu lo toma y de repente da alaridos y lo convulsiona con espumarajos, y a duras penas se aparta de él después de estropearlo. 40 Y he rogado a tus discípulos que lo echaran fuera, pero no pudieron. 41 Entonces Jesús respondió y dijo: ¡Oh generación incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo estaré con vosotros y os soportaré? ¡Trae acá a tu hijo! 42 Y cuando él se acercaba, el demonio aun lo derribó y convulsionó; pero Jesús reprendió al espíritu inmundo y sanó al muchacho, y se lo devolvió a su padre. 43 Y todos estaban asombrados de la grandeza de Dios. 44 Poned vosotros estas palabras en vuestros oídos, porque el Hijo del Hombre está a punto de ser entregado en mano de los hombres. 45 Pero ellos no entendían esta palabra, pues les estaba encubierta para que no la entendieran; y temían preguntarle acerca de esta palabra. 46 Surgió entonces una discusión entre ellos sobre quién sería el más grande de ellos. 47 Pero Jesús, que conocía el razonamiento del corazón de ellos, tomó a un niño y lo puso junto a sí mismo, 48 y les dijo: Cualquiera que reciba a este niño en mi nombre, me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió; porque quien es el más pequeño entre todos vosotros, ése es grande. 49 Y tomando la palabra Juan, dijo: Maestro, vimos a uno echando fuera demonios en tu nombre, y tratamos de impedírselo, porque no sigue con nosotros. 50 Jesús le dijo: No se lo prohibáis, porque el que no está contra vosotros, está a favor de vosotros. 51 Aconteció que al cumplirse los días de su ascensión, Él decidió resueltamente ir a Jerusalem. 52 Y envió mensajeros delante de sí, y al ir, entraron en una aldea de samaritanos para hacerle preparativos. 53 Pero no lo recibieron, porque su aspecto era como del que iba a Jerusalem. 54 Viendo esto los discípulos Jacobo y Juan, dijeron: Señor, ¿quieres que digamos que descienda fuego del cielo y los consuma? 55 Pero volviéndose, los reprendió. 56 Y se fueron a otra aldea. 57 Y mientras iban por el camino, alguien le dijo: Te seguiré adondequiera que vayas. 58 Jesús le dijo: Las zorras tienen guaridas y las aves del cielo nidos, pero el Hijo del Hombre no tiene dónde recostar la cabeza. 59 Y dijo a otro: ¡Sígueme! Pero él dijo: Señor, permíteme ir primero a enterrar a mi padre. 60 Le dijo: Deja que los muertos entierren a sus muertos, y tú anda, proclama el reino de Dios. 61 Otro le dijo: Te seguiré, Señor; pero primero permite que despida a los que están en mi casa. 62 Dijo Jesús: Ninguno que pone la mano en el arado y mira atrás, es apto para el reino de Dios.

1 And he called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, (Mt 10:1; Mr 3:13; Mr 6:7) 2 and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. (Mt 10:5; Mt 10:7; Lc 4:43; Lc 9:11; Lc 9:60; Lc 10:1; Lc 10:9) 3 And he said to them, “Take nothing for your journey, no staff, nor bag, nor bread, nor money; and do not have two tunics.[1] (Mt 10:9; Mr 6:8; Lc 10:4; Lc 22:35) 4 And whatever house you enter, stay there, and from there depart. 5 And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.” (Neh 5:13; Mr 1:44; Hch 13:51; Hch 18:6; Stg 5:3) 6 And they departed and went through the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. (Mr 6:12) 7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was perplexed, because it was said by some that John had been raised from the dead, (Mt 14:1; Mr 6:14; Lc 3:1; Lc 3:19; Lc 9:19; Hch 13:1) 8 by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen. (Lc 9:7) 9 Herod said, “John I beheaded, but who is this about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him. (Lc 23:8) 10 On their return the apostles told him all that they had done. And he took them and withdrew apart to a town called Bethsaida. (Mt 14:13; Mt 15:32; Mr 6:30; Mr 6:32; Mr 8:2; Jn 6:1) 11 When the crowds learned it, they followed him, and he welcomed them and spoke to them of the kingdom of God and cured those who had need of healing. (Lc 8:40; Lc 9:2) 12 Now the day began to wear away, and the twelve came and said to him, “Send the crowd away to go into the surrounding villages and countryside to find lodging and get provisions, for we are here in a desolate place.” (Jer 6:4; Mt 15:23; Lc 24:29) 13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish—unless we are to go and buy food for all these people.” (2 R 4:42; Mt 16:9; Mr 8:19) 14 For there were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 And they did so, and had them all sit down. 16 And taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing over them. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. (Sal 104:2; Dn 7:9; Mt 28:3; Mr 16:12) 30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, 31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure,[2] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. 32 Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. (Dn 8:18; Mt 26:43; Jn 1:14) 33 And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said. (Neh 8:15; Mr 9:6; Mr 14:40) 34 As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. (Ex 24:15; 2 P 1:17) 35 And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One;[3] listen to him!” (Sal 89:3; Is 42:1; Is 49:7; Lc 9:34; Lc 23:35; Hch 3:22) 36 And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen. (Mt 17:9; Mr 9:9) 37 On the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great crowd met him. (Mt 17:14; Mr 9:14) 38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child. (Lc 7:12) 39 And behold, a spirit seizes him, and he suddenly cries out. It convulses him so that he foams at the mouth, and shatters him, and will hardly leave him. 40 And I begged your disciples to cast it out, but they could not.” (Mt 10:1; Mr 6:7; Lc 9:1; Lc 10:17) 41 Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father. But while they were all marveling at everything he was doing, Jesus[4] said to his disciples, (Mt 17:22; Mr 9:30; Lc 9:22; 2 P 1:16) 44 “Let these words sink into your ears: The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men.” (Lc 9:43) 45 But they did not understand this saying, and it was concealed from them, so that they might not perceive it. And they were afraid to ask him about this saying. (Mt 18:1; Mt 20:20; Mr 9:33; Mr 10:35) 47 But Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a child and put him by his side 48 and said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great.” (Mt 10:40; Mt 10:42; Lc 22:26) 49 John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.” (Nm 11:28; Mt 7:22; Mt 12:27; Mr 9:38; Mr 16:17; Lc 10:17; Hch 19:13) 50 But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you.” (Mt 12:30; Lc 11:23) 51 When the days drew near for him to be taken up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. (2 R 12:17; Is 50:7; Jer 42:15; Mr 16:19; Lc 13:22; Lc 17:11; Lc 18:31; Lc 19:11; Lc 19:28) 52 And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make preparations for him. (Lc 10:33; Jn 4:9; Jn 4:20) 54 And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to tell fire to come down from heaven and consume them?”[5] (Ap 13:13) 55 But he turned and rebuked them.[6] 56 And they went on to another village. 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” (Mt 8:19; Lc 9:51) 58 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 59 To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 60 And Jesus[7] said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” (Lc 9:2; Jn 5:25) 61 Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” (1 R 19:20) 62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Flp 3:13)
