Promesa divina

1 Después de la muerte de Moisés, siervo de YHVH, aconteció que YHVH habló a Josué ben Nun, ministro de Moisés, diciendo: 2 Moisés mi siervo ha muerto. Ahora pues levántate, cruza este Jordán tú y todo este pueblo, a la tierra que doy a los hijos de Israel. 3 Como dije a Moisés: todo lugar que pise la planta de vuestro pie lo he entregado a vosotros. 4 Desde el desierto y este Líbano hasta el gran Río, el río Éufrates, toda la tierra de los heteos hasta el mar Grande, hacia la puesta del sol, serán vuestros términos. 5 Nadie te podrá resistir en todos los días de tu vida. Como estuve con Moisés, estaré contigo. No te dejaré ni te desampararé. 6 Esfuérzate y sé valiente, porque tú harás que este pueblo herede la tierra que juré a sus padres que les daría. 7 Solamente esfuérzate y sé muy valiente, cuidando de hacer conforme a toda la Ley que mi siervo Moisés te ordenó. No te apartes de ella ni a diestra ni a siniestra, para que tengas buen éxito dondequiera que vayas. 8 No se aparte de tu boca el libro de esta Ley. De día y de noche meditarás en él, para que cuides de hacer conforme a todo aquello que está en él escrito, porque entonces harás próspero tu camino, y tendrás buen éxito. 9 ¿No te lo estoy ordenando Yo? ¡Esfuérzate pues y sé valiente! No te intimides ni desmayes, porque YHVH tu Dios está contigo dondequiera que vayas. 10 Enseguida Josué ordenó a los oficiales del pueblo, diciendo: 11 Pasad en medio del campamento, mandad al pueblo, y decidle: Preparaos ración, porque dentro de tres días cruzaréis este Jordán para entrar a conquistar la tierra que YHVH vuestro Dios os da en posesión. 12 Josué habló también a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés, diciéndoles: 13 Acordaos de la palabra que Moisés, siervo de YHVH, os ordenó diciendo: YHVH vuestro Dios os ha hecho descansar y os ha dado esta tierra. 14 Vuestras mujeres, vuestros pequeños y vuestros ganados quedarán en la tierra que Moisés os ha dado a este lado del Jordán, pero todos vosotros, los hombres de valor, pasaréis armados al frente de vuestros hermanos y los ayudaréis, 15 hasta tanto YHVH conceda descanso a vuestros hermanos como a vosotros, y ellos también posean la tierra que YHVH vuestro Dios les ha de dar; entonces os volveréis a la tierra de vuestra posesión y la poseeréis, la misma que Moisés, siervo de YHVH, os dio a este lado del Jordán, hacia donde nace el sol. 16 Entonces respondieron a Josué, diciendo: Haremos todo lo que nos has ordenado, e iremos a dondequiera nos envíes. 17 De la manera que obedecimos a Moisés en todo, así te obedeceremos a ti, con tal que YHVH tu Dios esté contigo como estuvo con Moisés. 18 Cualquiera que sea rebelde a tu dicho, y no obedezca tus palabras en todo lo que le ordenes, que sea muerto, con tal que te esfuerces y seas valiente.

2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. (Dt 11:24; Jos 14:9) 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. (Gn 15:18; Ex 23:31; Nm 34:3) 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. (Dt 31:6; Jos 1:7; Jos 1:9; Jos 1:18)

7 Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the law that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success^[1] wherever you go. (Dt 5:32; Dt 28:14; Jos 11:15; Jos 23:6)

8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. Joshua Assumes Command

10 And Joshua commanded the officers of the people, (Dt 16:18) 11 “Pass through the midst of the camp and command the people, ‘Prepare your provisions, for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan to go in to take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving you to possess.’” (Dt 9:1; Dt 11:31; Jos 3:2) 12 And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh Joshua said, 13 “Remember the word that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, ‘The Lord your God is providing you a place of rest and will give you this land.’ (Nm 32:20) 14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land that Moses gave you beyond the Jordan, but all the men of valor among you shall pass over armed before your brothers and shall help them, 15 until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.” (Dt 3:20; Jos 22:4) 16 And they answered Joshua, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. 17 Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you, as he was with Moses! (Jos 1:5) 18 Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be put to death.
