1Pedro, un apóstol de Jesús el Mesías, a los expatriados de la dispersión en el Ponto, Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia,2elegidos según el designio de Dios Padre en santificación del Espíritu, para obedecer y ser rociados con la sangre de Jesús el Mesías: Gracia y paz os sea multiplicada.
La herencia de los santos
3Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesús, el Mesías, que según su gran misericordia nos hizo renacer para una esperanza viva, por medio de la resurrección de Jesús el Mesías de entre los muertos,4para una herencia incorruptible, incontaminada e inmarcesible, reservada en los cielos para vosotros,5que sois guardados por el poder de Dios mediante la fe, para alcanzar la salvación, que está preparada para ser manifestada en el tiempo postrero, en lo cual os alegráis grandemente.6Ahora, por cuanto es necesario, estáis siendo un poco afligidos por diversas pruebas,7para que la prueba de vuestra fe, mucho más preciosa que el oro (el cual, aunque perecedero, es probado por fuego), sea hallada en alabanza, gloria y honra en la revelación de Jesús el Mesías;8a quien amáis sin haberlo visto, en quien aun no viéndolo, pero creyendo, os alegráis con gozo inefable y glorioso;9obteniendo el fin de vuestra fe: la salvación de las almas.
La gloria del evangelio
10Los profetas que profetizaron acerca de la gracia destinada a vosotros, inquirieron y escudriñaron diligentemente acerca de esa salvación,11indagando quién y qué tiempo indicaba el Espíritu del Mesías que estaba en ellos, el cual predecía los padecimientos del Mesías, y las glorias que vendrían tras ellos.12A ellos fue revelado que no para sí mismos, sino para vosotros, administraban las cosas que ahora os fueron proclamadas por medio de los que os predicaron el evangelio por el Espíritu Santo enviado del cielo: cosas en las que los ángeles, mirando fijamente, anhelan penetrar.
El precio del rescate
13Por lo cual, habiendo ceñido los lomos de vuestro entendimiento, sed sobrios, y tened vuestra esperanza puesta por completo en la gracia que os será traída en la revelación de Jesús el Mesías;14como hijos obedientes, no amoldándoos a las antiguas pasiones que teníais cuando estabais en vuestra ignorancia;15sino, según el que os llamó es santo, sed también vosotros santos en toda vuestra manera de vivir,16porque está escrito: Sed santos, porque Yo soy santo.17Y si invocáis por Padre al que juzga imparcialmente según la obra de cada uno, conducíos con temor todo el tiempo de vuestra peregrinación,18sabiendo que fuisteis rescatados de vuestra vana manera de vivir, que vuestros padres os legaron, no con cosas corruptibles, como la plata o el oro;19sino con la sangre preciosa del Mesías, como de un cordero sin mancha y sin defecto,20escogido ciertamente antes de la fundación del mundo, pero manifestado en los tiempos postreros por amor a vosotros,21que por medio de Él sois fieles a Dios, quien lo resucitó de entre los muertos y le dio gloria, para que vuestra fe y esperanza estén en Dios.22Habiendo purificado vuestras almas por la obediencia a la verdad para un amor fraternal sincero, amaos intensamente de corazón los unos a los otros,23habiendo sido reengendrados, no de una simiente corruptible, sino incorruptible, por medio de la palabra de Dios, que vive y permanece.24Pues: Toda carne es como hierba, Y toda su gloria como la flor de la hierba. Sécase la hierba, y cae la flor;25Pero la palabra del Señor permanece para siempre.

Born Again to a Living Hope
3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (1 Co 15:20; 2 Co 1:3; Ef 1:3; Tit 3:5; 1 P 1:23; 1 P 3:21)4to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, (Ro 8:17; Col 1:5; 2 Ti 4:8; 1 P 5:4)5who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (Ro 8:18; 2 Co 4:17; Ef 2:8; Heb 12:11; 1 P 5:10)6In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, (Stg 1:2; 1 P 4:12)7so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (Job 23:10; Sal 66:10; Pr 17:3; Is 48:10; Ro 2:7; Ro 2:10; 1 Co 3:13; 1 Co 4:5; 2 Ts 1:7; Stg 1:3)8Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, (Jn 20:29; Heb 11:27; 1 Jn 4:20)9obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. (Ro 6:22)10Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, (Dn 8:15; Mt 13:17; Lc 10:24; 2 P 1:19)11inquiring what person or time[1] the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. (Is 52:13; Dn 9:24; Mt 26:24; Lc 24:26; Hch 3:18; Hch 16:7; Ro 8:9; 2 P 1:21)12It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look. Called to Be Holy
13Therefore, preparing your minds for action,[2] and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (Lc 12:35; 1 Ts 5:6; 1 Ts 5:8; 2 Ti 4:5; 1 P 4:7; 1 P 5:8)14As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, (Hch 17:30; Ro 12:2; Tit 3:3; 1 P 4:2)15but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, (2 Co 7:1; 1 Ts 4:7; Heb 12:14; Stg 3:13; 1 Jn 3:3)16since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (Lv 11:44)17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, (Sal 62:12; Jer 3:19; Mal 1:6; Mt 6:9; Ro 11:20; 2 Co 6:18; 2 Co 7:1; Stg 2:1; 1 P 3:15)18knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, (Sal 49:8; Sal 130:8; 1 Co 6:20; Ef 4:17; Tit 2:14; 2 P 2:1)19but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. (Ex 12:5; Jn 1:29; Hch 20:28; Heb 9:14)20He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you (Ro 16:26; Heb 1:2)21who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. (Jn 7:39; Jn 12:44; Hch 2:24; Hch 3:13; Ro 10:9; Heb 2:9; 1 P 3:22)22Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, (Ro 12:9; 1 Ti 1:5; Heb 13:1)23since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; (Jn 1:13; Jn 3:3; Heb 4:12; Stg 1:18; 1 P 1:3)24for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, (Is 40:6; Is 40:8; Stg 1:10)25but the word of the Lord remains forever.” And this word is the good news that was preached to you. (Is 40:9; Mt 24:35)
