1Sedan såg jag en ny himmel och en ny jord, för den första himlen och den första jorden var borta, och havet fanns inte mer.2Och jag såg Guds stad, det nya Jerusalem, komma ner från himlen, från Gud. Jag ska låta den som är törstig få dricka ur källan med livets vatten helt gratis.7Den som segrar över det onda ska få allt detta som gåva, och jag ska vara hans Gud och han ska vara min son.8Men de fega, de som förnekar mig, de onda och korrupta människorna, mördare, de som ägnar sig åt sexuell lössläppthet, de som sysslar med magi och ockultism, avgudadyrkare och alla lögnare, deras plats blir i sjön som brinner av eld och svavel. 9Sedan kom en av de sju änglar som hade tömt skålarna med de sju sista plågorna och sa till mig: ”Kom med mig, så ska jag visa dig bruden, Lammets fru.[3]”10I synen som Guds Ande lät mig se blev jag sedan förd av ängeln till en hög bergstopp.[4] Därifrån visade han mig Guds stad, Jerusalem, som kom ner från himlen, från Gud.11Staden strålade av Guds härlighet, och den gnistrade som en dyrbar ädelsten, som en kristallklar jaspis.12Den hade en stor och hög mur med tolv portar, som vaktades av tolv änglar. Och namnen på Israels tolv stammar stod skrivna på portarna.13Tre av portarna låg mot norr, tre mot söder, tre mot öster och tre mot väster.14Stadsmuren hade tolv grundstenar, och på dem stod namnen på Lammets tolv sändebud[5].15Ängeln som talade till mig höll en måttstock av guld i sin hand för att mäta staden och dess portar och dess mur.16Och när han mätte staden fann han att den var byggd som en kub. Den var lika bred som den var lång, och höjden var exakt densamma. Den stora gatan genom staden var av rent guld, som liknade genomskinligt glas.22Jag såg inget tempel i staden, för Herren Gud, han som har all makt, är stadens tempel, han och Lammet.23Och staden behöver varken sol eller måne, för Guds härlighet strålar över den, och Lammet är dess ljus.24Folken på jorden ska ledas av detta ljus, och världens makthavare ska komma till staden med sina rikedomar.25Portarna i staden ska aldrig stängas, för dagen tar inte slut och det finns ingen natt.26Allt dyrbart och härligt som folken äger ska föras dit.27Men inget ont ska tillåtas att komma dit in, ingen som handlar skamligt eller ohederligt, utan bara de som har sina namn skrivna i livets bok[8] som tillhör Lammet.
