1Efter det fick jag se en ängel komma ner från himlen. Han hade nyckeln till den bottenlösa avgrunden och en tung kedja i sin hand.2Och han grep draken, den gamle ormen, som är djävulen eller Satan,[1] och band honom för 1 000 år.3Sedan kastade ängeln ner honom i den bottenlösa avgrunden och låste den och förseglade den med ett sigill, så att han inte kunde bedra folken förrän de 1 000 åren hade gått. Men efter det måste han släppas ut igen för en kort tid.4Jag såg också troner, och på dem satte sig de som hade fått rätt att döma. Dessa som jag såg, var själarna av de människor som hade halshuggits för att de hade spridit Guds budskap om Jesus. De hade inte tillbett odjuret[2] eller dess bild och hade inte tagit emot dess märke på sina pannor eller sina händer. Dessa människor fick liv igen och regerade med Kristus, den utlovade kungen, i 1 000 år,5men resten av de döda blev inte levande igen förrän de 1 000 åren var över. Detta är den första uppståndelsen.6Lyckliga är de som tillhör Gud och som får vara med om den första uppståndelsen. Den andra döden[3] kan inte skada dem, utan de ska vara präster som tjänar Gud och Kristus, den utlovade kungen, och ska regera med honom i 1 000 år.
Satan får sitt straff
7När de 1 000 åren är över ska Satan släppas lös ur sitt fängelse.8Han ska då gå ut och bedra folk från jordens alla hörn, de som kallas Gog och Magog,[4] och samla dem till strid. Och de ska vara lika många som sanden i havet.9Jag såg hur de drog fram över hela jorden och omringade den stad som Gud älskar, den plats där de människor som tillhör Gud hade samlats. Men eld från himlen föll ner och utplånade dem.10Och djävulen som bedrog dem kastades ner i samma sjö av eld och svavel som odjuret och den falska profeten[5], och där ska de plågas dag och natt i all evighet.
Guds dom
11Sedan såg jag en stor vit tron och honom som sitter på den. Och när han visade sig försvann jorden och himlen, de fanns inte mer.12Jag såg också de döda, både högt uppsatta personer och vanligt folk. De stod inför Gud, och böcker öppnades. Även en annan bok öppnades, och det var livets bok[6]. De döda dömdes sedan efter vad som stod i de första böckerna, för där fanns alla deras gärningar nedskrivna.13Havet gav tillbaka de döda som fanns i det, och de dödas värld[7] gav tillbaka de döda som fanns i den, och var och en dömdes efter sina gärningar.14Sedan kastades de dödas värld i den brinnande sjön. Detta är den andra döden, den brinnande sjön.15Och var och en som inte hade sitt namn skrivet i livets bok kastades i den brinnande sjön.

(Upp 1:18; Upp 9:1)2And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years, (2 Pet 2:4; Jud 1:6; Upp 12:9)3and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, so that he might not deceive the nations any longer, until the thousand years were ended. After that he must be released for a little while. (Dan 6:17; Matt 27:66; Upp 20:1; Upp 20:8; Upp 20:10)4Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. (Ps 45:16; Dan 7:9; Dan 7:18; Dan 7:22; Matt 19:28; Matt 20:21; Matt 20:27; Joh 14:19; 2 Tim 2:11; 2 Tim 2:12; Upp 3:21; Upp 5:10; Upp 6:9; Upp 13:12; Upp 13:14; Upp 20:6; Upp 22:5)5The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection.6Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years. The Defeat of Satan
7And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be released from his prison (Upp 20:2)8and will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. (Hes 38:2; Hes 39:1; Upp 16:14; Upp 20:3; Upp 20:10)9And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven[2] and consumed them, (Ps 132:13; Jes 8:8; Hes 38:9; Hes 38:16; Hab 1:6; Heb 13:11; Heb 13:13; Upp 13:13)10and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. (Upp 16:13; Upp 19:20; Upp 20:3; Upp 20:8)
Judgment Before the Great White Throne
11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. (Ps 102:26; Dan 2:35; Upp 12:8)12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. (Dan 7:10; Matt 16:27; Rom 14:10; 2 Kor 5:10; Upp 3:5; Upp 11:18)13And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. (Upp 6:8; Upp 20:12)14Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. (Luk 20:36; 1 Kor 15:26; Upp 20:6; Upp 20:13; Upp 21:4)15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. (Matt 13:42; Matt 13:50)
