1-2 Herren gör oss starka! Jubla högt inför honom. Låt oss höja glädjerop till Israels Gud. 3 Stäm upp lovsång och slå på trummor. Spela på lyror och harpor. 4 Blås i trumpeter! Kom till våra glada fester vid fullmåne och nymåne. 5 Gud har gett oss dessa högtidsdagar. De finns nerskrivna i Israels lagar. 6 Redan då, när han kämpade mot egyptierna, gav han dessa lagar till sitt folk. Då hör jag en okänd röst som säger: 7 "Nu ska jag befria er från denna börda! Ni ska få lägga ner er tunga last! 8 Ni ropade på mig när ni var i nöd, och jag frälste er. Jag svarade er från Sinais berg, mitt gömställe i stormen. Jag prövade er tro vid Meriba, när ni klagade över att det inte fanns något vatten. 9 Lyssna till mig, mitt folk, och ta emot mina varningar! Israel, om du bara ville lyssna! 10 Ni ska aldrig tillbe någon avgud eller ha främmande gudar ibland er. 11 För det var jag, Herren, er Gud, som ledde er ut ur Egypten. Pröva mig bara! Öppna er mun och se om jag inte kommer att fylla den. 12 Men nej, mitt folk lyssnar inte på mig. Israel vill inte ha med mig att göra. 13 Därför låter jag dem gå sina egna dåraktiga vägar och leva som de själva vill. 14 Tänk om mitt folk bara ville lyssna på mig! Tänk om Israel ville följa mig och vandra på mina vägar! 15 Tänk hur snabbt jag då skulle besegra deras fiender! Jag skulle på en gång krossa deras ovänner! 16 Ja, alla som hatar Herren måste böja sig ner i fruktan, och deras straff ska vara utan ände. 17 Men er skulle han låta skörda det finaste vete, och han skulle låta er få njuta av vildhonung."

1 To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith.[1] Of Asaph. Sing aloud to God our strength; shout for joy to the God of Jacob! (5 Mos 32:43; Ps 8:1; Ps 50:1; Ps 66:1; Ps 84:1) 2 Raise a song; sound the tambourine, the sweet lyre with the harp. (2 Mos 15:20; Ps 71:22) 3 Blow the trumpet at the new moon, at the full moon, on our feast day. (3 Mos 23:24; 4 Mos 10:10; 4 Mos 29:1) 4 For it is a statute for Israel, a rule[2] of the God of Jacob. 5 He made it a decree in Joseph when he went out over[3] the land of Egypt. I hear a language I had not known: (2 Mos 11:4; 5 Mos 28:49; Ps 77:15; Ps 78:5; Ps 78:67; Ps 80:1; Ps 114:1; Ps 122:4; Jer 5:15) 6 “I relieved your[4] shoulder of the burden; your hands were freed from the basket. (2 Mos 1:11; Jes 9:4; Jes 10:27) 7 In distress you called, and I delivered you; I answered you in the secret place of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (2 Mos 2:23; 2 Mos 14:10; 2 Mos 17:7; 2 Mos 19:19; 4 Mos 20:13; Ps 18:11; Ps 50:15) 8 Hear, O my people, while I admonish you! O Israel, if you would but listen to me! (Ps 50:7) 9 There shall be no strange god among you; you shall not bow down to a foreign god. (2 Mos 20:3; 5 Mos 32:12; Ps 44:20; Jes 43:12) 10 I am the Lord your God, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it. (2 Mos 20:2; Ps 37:3) 11 “But my people did not listen to my voice; Israel would not submit to me. (2 Mos 32:1; 5 Mos 32:15; 5 Mos 32:18; Ords 1:25; Ords 1:30) 12 So I gave them over to their stubborn hearts, to follow their own counsels. (5 Mos 29:19; Job 8:4; Ps 106:43; Jer 7:24; Mik 6:16; Apg 7:42; Apg 14:16; Rom 1:24; Rom 1:26) 13 Oh, that my people would listen to me, that Israel would walk in my ways! (5 Mos 5:29; 5 Mos 5:33; 5 Mos 32:29; Jes 48:18) 14 I would soon subdue their enemies and turn my hand against their foes. (Am 1:8) 15 Those who hate the Lord would cringe toward him, and their fate would last forever. (Ps 18:44) 16 But he would feed you[5] with the finest of the wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” (5 Mos 32:13; 5 Mos 32:14; Job 29:6; Ps 147:14; Hes 16:19)
