1Detta är Guds budskap om Jerusalem och till 'Synernas dal':Vad är det som händer? Varför springer alla upp på taken? Vad ser de?2Hela staden är i uppror. Vad är det som har drabbat den? Kroppar ligger utspridda överallt, människor har dött av pest och inte i strid.3Alla dina ledare flyr. De kapitulerar utan att använda sina vapen. Folket försöker också komma undan, men de blir tillfångatagna.4Låt mig få vara ensam och gråta! Försök inte trösta mig. Låt mig gråta över mitt folk när jag ser hur det går under!5Vilken fruktansvärd dag med förvirring och skräck från Herren Gud, den Allsmäktige. Jerusalems murar har brutits ner och dödsskrik ekar kring bergen.6-7Elamiterna är bågskyttar, och de tar sina hästar och vagnar, och Kirs män håller upp sköldarna. De fyller dina ljuvliga dalgångar med ryttare och trängs vid dina portar.8Gud har dragit undan sitt beskydd. Ni ser er den dagen om efter vapen!9-11Ni inspekterar Jerusalems murar och ser att de behöver repareras. Ni ser över husen och river ner några för att få material till att laga murarna. Ni samlar upp vatten i den nedre dammen och bygger en ny damm mellan murarna för dess vatten. Men inga planer kommer att kunna hjälpa er. Ni ber ju aldrig Gud om hjälp, och det är han som låter allt detta drabba er. Han är den som för länge sedan planerat det här.12Herren, härskarornas Gud, kallade er till bättring, till att gråta och sörja och till att raka era huvuden i sorg över era synder och bära kläder sydda av säcktyg, allt för att visa er ånger.13Men i stället sjunger ni, dansar, spelar och firar. "Låt oss äta, dricka och vara glada", säger ni. "Vad spelar det för roll? I morgon kanske vi dör."14Herren, härskarornas Gud, har talat om för mig att denna synd inte blir förlåten så länge ni lever. Bara döden väntar er.15-16Herren, härskarornas Gud, sa också till mig: "Gå och säg till Sebna, palatsets föreståndare: 'Vem tror du att du är, som bygger den här vackra graven åt dig själv i klippan?17Herren, som tillät att du fick vara så praktfullt klädd, ska överge dig och sända dig i fångenskap, du mäktige man!18Han kommer att forma dig som en liten boll i sin hand och kasta dig långt bort till ett stort land, där du ska dö, och där dina hästar och vagnar ska bli kvar. Du är en skamfläck för ditt folk!19Ja, jag ska köra ut dig ur ditt palats. Jag ska dra ner dig från din högt uppsatta position.20Och sedan ska jag låta Eljakim, Hilkias son, efterträda dig.21Han ska få din mantel och ditt bälte, din titel och makt, och han ska bli en far för folket i Jerusalem och hela Juda.22Jag ska ge honom ansvaret över hela mitt folk. Det han säger ska ske, och ingen ska kunna stoppa honom.23-24Jag ska göra honom stark och pålitlig, som en kil indriven för att ge stadga. Han ska vara till heder för sin far och sin familj, och hela hans släkt ska vara beroende av honom och hans rykte.' "25Men den dagen kommer kilen att lossna. 1The oracle concerning the valley of vision. What do you mean that you have gone up, all of you, to the housetops, (Jes 13:1; Jes 22:5; Jer 21:13; Joel 3:12; Joel 3:14)2you who are full of shoutings, tumultuous city, exultant town? Your slain are not slain with the sword or dead in battle. (Jes 32:13; Klag 4:9)3All your leaders have fled together; without the bow they were captured. All of you who were found were captured, though they had fled far away. (Jes 1:10)4Therefore I said: “Look away from me; let me weep bitter tears; do not labor to comfort me concerning the destruction of the daughter of my people.” (Jer 9:1; Mik 1:8)5For the Lord God of hosts has a day of tumult and trampling and confusion in the valley of vision, a battering down of walls and a shouting to the mountains. (Jes 2:12; Jes 10:6; Jes 18:2; Jes 22:1; Jes 37:3; Mik 7:4)6And Elam bore the quiver with chariots and horsemen, and Kir uncovered the shield. (2 Kung 16:9; Jes 11:11)7Your choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen took their stand at the gates.8He has taken away the covering of Judah. In that day you looked to the weapons of the House of the Forest, (1 Kung 10:17; Jes 30:1)9and you saw that the breaches of the city of David were many. You collected the waters of the lower pool, (2 Krön 32:5; Neh 3:16; Jes 22:5; Jes 22:10)10and you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you broke down the houses to fortify the wall.11You made a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But you did not look to him who did it, or see him who planned it long ago. (2 Kung 20:20; 2 Kung 25:4; 2 Krön 32:3; Jes 5:12; Jes 7:3; Jes 22:9)12In that day the Lord God of hosts called for weeping and mourning, for baldness and wearing sackcloth; (2 Sam 3:31; Jes 3:24; Joel 2:17)13and behold, joy and gladness, killing oxen and slaughtering sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine. “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” (Jes 56:12; 1 Kor 15:32)14The Lord of hosts has revealed himself in my ears: “Surely this iniquity will not be atoned for you until you die,” says the Lord God of hosts. (1 Sam 3:14; Jes 5:9; Jes 22:13; Jes 27:9)15Thus says the Lord God of hosts, “Come, go to this steward, to Shebna, who is over the household, and say to him: (2 Kung 18:18; 2 Kung 18:26; 2 Kung 18:37; 2 Kung 19:2; Jes 36:3; Jes 36:11; Jes 36:22; Jes 37:2)16What have you to do here, and whom have you here, that you have cut out here a tomb for yourself, you who cut out a tomb on the height and carve a dwelling for yourself in the rock? (2 Krön 16:14; Matt 27:60)17Behold, the Lord will hurl you away violently, O you strong man. He will seize firm hold on you (Dan 3:21)18and whirl you around and around, and throw you like a ball into a wide land. There you shall die, and there shall be your glorious chariots, you shame of your master’s house. (Jes 36:9)19I will thrust you from your office, and you will be pulled down from your station.
