1I vyšli všickni synové Izraelští, a shromáždilo se všecko množství jednomyslně od Dan až do Bersabé, i země Galád, k Hospodinu do Masfa.2Kdežto postavili se přední všeho lidu, všecka pokolení Izraelská v shromáždění lidu Božího, čtyřikrát sto tisíc lidu pěšího válečného.3(Uslyšeli pak synové Beniamin, že by sešli se synové Izraelští v Masfa.) I řekli synové Izraelští: Povězte, kterak se stala nešlechetnost ta?4I odpověděv muž Levíta, manžel ženy zamordované, řekl: Do Gabaa kteréž jest Beniaminovo, přišel jsem s ženinou svou, abych tam přenocoval.5Tedy povstavše proti mně muži Gabaa, obklíčili mne v domě v noci, myslíce mne zamordovati, ženinu pak mou trápili, tak že umřela.6Pročež vzav ženinu svou, rozsekal jsem ji na kusy, a rozeslal jsem ji do všech krajin dědictví Izraelského; nebo nešlechetnosti a mrzkosti se dopustili v Izraeli.7Aj, všickni vy synové Izraelští jste; považte toho mezi sebou, a raďte se o to.8A povstav všecken lid jednomyslně, řekli: Nenavrátí se žádný z nás do příbytku svého, aniž odejde kdo do domu svého.9Ale nyní toto učiníme Gabaa, losujíce proti němu.10Vezmeme deset mužů ze sta po všech pokoleních Izraelských, a sto z tisíce, a tisíc z desíti tisíců, aby dodávali potravy lidu, kterýž by přitáhna do Gabaa Beniaminova, pomstil všech nešlechetností jeho, kterýchž se dopustilo v Izraeli.11I sebrali se všickni muži Izraelští na to město, snesše se za jednoho člověka.12Poslala pak pokolení Izraelská muže do všech čeledí synů Beniamin, řkouce: Jaký to zlý skutek stal se mezi vámi?13Nyní tedy vydejte ty muže bezbožné, kteříž jsou v Gabaa, ať je zbijeme a odejmeme zlé z Izraele. Ale nechtěli Beniaminští slyšeti hlasu bratří svých, synů Izraelských.14Nýbrž shromáždili se synové Beniamin z měst svých do Gabaa, aby vytáhli k boji proti synům Izraelským.15Toho dne načteno jest synů Beniamin z měst jejich dvadceti šest tisíc mužů bojovných, kromě obyvatelů Gabaa, jichž načteno bylo šest set mužů vybraných.16Mezi kterýmžto vším lidem bylo sedm set mužů vybraných, neužívajících pravé ruky své, z nichž každý z praku kamením házeli k vlasu, a nechybovali se.17Mužů pak Izraelských načteno jest kromě Beniaminských čtyřikrát sto tisíc mužů bojovných; všickni tito byli muži udatní.18Vstavše pak, brali se do domu Boha silného, a tázali se Boha, a řekli synové Izraelští: Kdo z nás půjde napřed k boji proti synům Beniamin? I řekl Hospodin: Juda půjde napřed.19A tak ráno vstavše synové Izraelští, položili se proti Gabaa.20I táhli muži Izraelští k boji proti synům Beniamin, a sšikovali se muži Izraelští k bitvě proti Gabaa.21Vyšedše pak synové Beniamin z Gabaa, porazili z Izraele toho dne dvamecítma tisíc mužů na zem.22A posilnivše se muži lidu Izraelského, spořádali se zase k boji na místě, na kterémž se prvního dne zřídili.23Prvé pak šli synové Izraelští, a plakali před Hospodinem až do večera. I tázali se Hospodina těmi slovy: Půjdeme-li ještě k boji proti synům Beniamina bratra našeho? Odpověděl Hospodin: Jděte proti nim.24Tedy potýkali se synové Izraelští s syny Beniamin druhého dne.25A vyšedše synové Beniamin z Gabaa na ně druhého dne, porazili z synů Izraelských opět osmnácte tisíc mužů na zem, vše mužů bojovných.26Protož vstoupili všickni synové Izraelští a všecken lid, a přišli do domu Boha silného. I plakali, usadivše se tam před Hospodinem, a postili se toho dne až do večera; obětovali též oběti zápalné a pokojné před Hospodinem.27I tázali se synové Izraelští Hospodina, (nebo tu byla truhla smlouvy Boží v těch dnech,28A Fínes syn Eleazara, syna Aronova, stál před ní v ten čas), řkouce: Půjdeme-li ještě k boji proti synům Beniamina bratra našeho, čili tak necháme? Odpověděl Hospodin: Jděte, nebo zítra dám je v ruku vaši.29Tedy Izraelští zdělali zálohy proti Gabaa všudy vůkol.30I šli synové Izraelští proti synům Beniamin dne třetího, a sšikovali se proti Gabaa, jako prvé jednou i podruhé.31Vyšedše pak synové Beniamin proti lidu, odtrhli se od města, a počali bíti a mordovati lidu, jako prvé jednou i druhé po stezkách, (z nichž jedna šla k Bethel a druhá do Gabaa), i po poli, a okolo třidcíti mužů z Izraele.32A řekli synové Beniamin: Padají před námi jako i prvé. Synové pak Izraelští řekli byli: Utíkejme, abychom je odtrhli od města až k stezkám.33A v tom všickni synové Izraelští vstavše z místa svého, sšikovali se v Baltamar; zálohy také Izraelovy vyskočily z místa svého z trávníků Gabaa.34Tedy vyšlo proti Gabaa deset tisíc mužů vybraných ze všeho Izraele, a bitva se rozmáhala; oni pak nevěděli o tom, že je potkati mělo zlé.35I porazil Hospodin Beniamina před Izraelem, a zbili synové Izraelští z Beniaminských dne toho pětmecítma tisíc a sto mužů, vše bojovných.36A vidouce synové Beniamin, že by poraženi byli, (nebo muži Izraelští ustupovali z místa Beniaminským, ubezpečivše se na zálohy, kteréž zdělali proti Gabaa.37Zálohy pak pospíšily a obořily se na Gabaa, a rozvláčně troubivše zálohy, zbily všecko město ostrostí meče.38Měli pak muži Izraelští s zálohami jistý čas uložený, aby když by oni zapálili město,39Obrátili se synové Izraelští k boji. Beniaminští pak počali bíti a mordovati, a zbili z synů Izraelských okolo třidcíti mužů; nebo řekli: Jistě že padají před námi jako v první bitvě.40Oheň pak počal vzhůru jíti z města, a sloup dymový. A ohlédše se Beniaminští zpět, uzřeli, an vstupuje oheň města k nebi.)41A že muži Izraelští obrátili se, i zděšeni jsou muži Beniamin, nebo viděli, že zahynutí jim nastává.42I utíkali před muži Izraelskými cestou ku poušti, a bojovníci postihali je, a kteří z měst vyšli, mordovali je mezi sebou.43A tak obklíčili Beniaminské, a honili i porazili je, od Manuha až naproti Gabaa k východu slunce.44Tedy padlo Beniaminských osmnácte tisíc mužů; všickni ti byli muži silní.45Těch pak, kteříž obrátivše se, utíkali na poušť k skále Remmon, zpaběrovali po cestách pět tisíc mužů; potom honili je až k Gidom, a zbili z nich dva tisíce mužů.46A tak bylo všech, kteříž padli v ten den z Beniaminských, pětmecítma tisíc mužů bojovných, vše mužů silných.47I obrátilo se na poušť a uteklo k skále Remmon šest set mužů, kteříž zůstali v skále Remmon za čtyři měsíce.48Potom muži Izraelští navrátili se k synům Beniamin, a zbili je ostrostí meče, tak lidi v městech jako hovada, i všecko, což nalezeno bylo; také i všecka města, kteráž ještě pozůstávala, ohněm vypálili.
Trestná výprava proti Benjamíncům - Benjamínci jsou tvrdě potrestáni za hřích spáchaný v Gibeji.
1 I vytáhli všichni synové Izraele a shromáždila se celá pospolitost od Danu po Beer-šebu i gileádská země jako jeden muž k Hospodinu do Mispy.2 Dostavili se vůdcové všeho lidu i všechny izraelské kmeny do shromáždění Božího lidu, čtyři sta tisíc pěšáků ozbrojených meči. 3 Benjamínovci slyšeli, že Izraelci přitáhli vzhůru do Mispy. Izraelci se tázali: „Mluvte, jak došlo k takovému zločinu?“4 Nato odpověděl ten lévijec, muž zavražděné ženy: „Přišel jsem se svou ženinou přenocovat do benjamínské Gibeje.5 Gibejští občané však proti mně povstali a obklíčili mě v noci v tom domě. Měli v úmyslu mě zavraždit. A mou ženinu zneužili tak, že zemřela.6 Tu jsem vzal svou ženinu, rozsekal ji na díly a rozeslal je do všech krajů izraelského dědictví, neboť oni se dopustili v Izraeli mrzké hanebnosti.7 Vy všichni jste přece synové Izraele. Ujměte se věci a poraďte tady.“8 Všechen lid povstal jako jeden muž a rozhodl: „Nikdo z nás neodejde do svého stanu, nikdo z nás se neuchýlí do svého domu,9 a s Gibeou naložíme takto: Potáhneme proti ní, jak určí los.10 Vybereme ve všech izraelských kmenech deset mužů ze sta, sto z tisíce a tisíc z deseti tisíců, aby opatřovali potravu pro lid, který přitáhne proti benjamínské Gibeji, aby jí odplatil za všechnu hanebnost, které se v Izraeli dopustila.“11 Tak se shromáždili všichni muži k městu, semknuti jako jeden muž. 12 Izraelské kmeny vyslaly muže do všech Benjamínových čeledí s dotazem: „Co je to za zločin, k němuž u vás došlo?13 Ihned vydejte ty gibejské ničemy. Na smrt s nimi, ať odstraníme z Izraele zlořád!“ Ale Benjamínovci nechtěli výzvy svých bratří Izraelců uposlechnout.14 Shromáždili se z měst do Gibeje, aby vytáhli do boje proti Izraelcům.15 Onoho dne bylo napočteno Benjamínovců z měst dvacet šest tisíc mužů ozbrojených meči, mimo sedm set vybraných mužů napočtených z obyvatelů Gibeje.16 Ze všeho toho lidu bylo sedm set vybraných mužů leváků; každý z nich vrhal kameny prakem navlas přesně a neminul se. 17 Izraelských mužů, bez Benjamínců, bylo napočteno čtyři sta tisíc mužů ozbrojených meči, samí bojovníci.18 Zvedli se a táhli vzhůru do Bét-elu, aby se doptali Boha. I ptali se Izraelci: „Kdo z nás má táhnout do boje s Benjamínci první?“ Hospodin odpověděl: „První bude Juda.“19 Tak se Izraelci ráno zvedli a položili se proti Gibeji. 20 Izraelští muži vytáhli do boje s Benjamínem a seřadili se k bitvě proti Gibeji.21 Tu z Gibeje vyrazili Benjamínci a vnesli onoho dne do Izraele zkázu; srazili k zemi dvaadvacet tisíc mužů.22 Ale lid, izraelští muži, se vzchopili a opět se seřadili k boji na místě, na němž se seřadili prvého dne.23 Předtím však Izraelci táhli vzhůru do Bét-elu a plakali před Hospodinem až do večera; potom se Hospodina doptali: „Máme znovu podstoupit boj se syny svého bratra Benjamína?“ Hospodin odpověděl: „Táhněte proti němu!“ 24 Druhého dne se Izraelci utkali s Benjamínci.25 Ale i druhého dne proti nim vyrazil Benjamín z Gibeje a znovu vnesli mezi Izraelce zkázu; srazili k zemi osmnáct tisíc mužů, ačkoli všichni byli ozbrojeni meči.26 I táhli všichni Izraelci, totiž všechen lid, vzhůru a přišli do Bét-elu. Plakali a seděli tam před Hospodinem a postili se onoho dne až do večera; přitom přinášeli Hospodinu oběti zápalné a pokojné.27 Pak se Izraelci doptali Hospodina; byla tam totiž v té době schrána Boží smlouvy28 a v té době stával před ní Pinchas, syn Eleazara, syna Áronova. Tázali se: „Máme pokračovat dál ve válečném tažení proti synům svého bratra Benjamína, anebo toho máme nechat?“ Hospodin odpověděl: „Vytáhněte, neboť zítra ti je vydám do rukou.“29 Izrael tedy položil proti Gibeji ze všech stran zálohy. 30 Třetího dne táhli Izraelci vzhůru proti Benjamíncům a seřadili se proti Gibeji jako už dvakrát předtím.31 Benjamínci vyrazili proti lidu, dali se odlákat od města a začali jako po dvakrát předtím bít a pobíjet některé z lidu. Na silnicích, z nichž jedna vystupuje do Bét-elu a druhá do Gibeje, padlo v poli asi třicet mužů z Izraele.32Benjamínci si řekli: „Zase jsme je porazili jako předtím.“ Izraelci totiž řekli: „Utíkejme a odlákejme je od města k silnicím!“33 Tu se všichni izraelští muži zvedli ze svého místa a seřadili se v Baal-támaře, zatímco izraelská záloha se vyrojila ze svého stanoviště na Gibejské planině.34 Proti Gibeji nyní nastoupilo deset tisíc mužů vybraných ze všeho Izraele a nastal urputný boj. Benjamínci ovšem nevěděli, že jim hrozí záhuba. 35 I porazil Hospodin Benjamína před Izraelem. Izraelci vnesli onoho dne do Benjamína zkázu; padlo dvacet pět tisíc sto mužů, všichni ozbrojení meči.36 Benjamínci viděli, že jsou poraženi. Izraelští muži vyklizovali před Benjamínem prostor, protože spoléhali na zálohu, kterou zřídili proti Gibeji.37 Muži ze zálohy přispěchali a zaútočili na Gibeu. Záloha přitáhla a vybila celé město ostřím meče.38 Izraelští muži byli domluveni se zálohou, že jim dá znamení dýmem vystupujícím z města.39 Proto se izraelští muži v bitvě obrátili k Benjamíncům zády. Benjamín začal pobíjet a dobíjet izraelské muže, asi třicet mužů. Řekli si: „Teď už jsme je nadobro porazili jako v první bitvě.“40 Vtom začal vystupovat z města sloup dýmu. Když se Benjamín ohlédl dozadu, spatřil, jak vystupuje kouř z města k nebi jako při celopalu.41 Tu se k nim izraelští muži obrátili čelem. Benjamínci se zhrozili, neboť viděli, že jim hrozí záhuba.42 Dali se před izraelskými muži na ústup cestou k poušti, avšak boji neunikli, a ti, kteří vyrazili z měst, vnášeli mezi ně zkázu.43 Obklíčili Benjamína, pronásledovali jej bez oddechu až na východ od Gibeje a deptali ho.44 Tenkrát padlo z Benjamína osmnáct tisíc mužů, samí válečníci.45 Někteří se obrátili a dali na útěk do pouště ke skalisku Rimónu. Izraelci paběrkovali po silnicích a pochytali pět tisíc mužů. Hnali je až do Gideómu a pobili z nich ještě dva tisíce mužů.46 Všech padlých z Benjamína bylo onoho dne pětadvacet tisíc mužů ozbrojených meči, samí válečníci.47 Ale šest set mužů se obrátilo a uteklo do pouště ke skalisku Rimónu; zůstali na skalisku Rimónu čtyři měsíce.48 Izraelští muži se vrátili k Benjamínovcům a pobili je ostřím meče, pobili všechno, co v městě zůstalo, i dobytek, všechno, nač přišli; také všechna města, do nichž přišli, vypálili.
1Nato všichni Izraelci od Danu až po Beer-šebu i ti z gileádského kraje vyrazili jako jeden muž před Hospodina do Micpy, kde se shromáždila celá obec.2Do shromáždění Božího lidu se dostavili vůdcové všeho lidu ze všech izraelských kmenů – 400 000 pěších bojovníků.3(To, že se Izraelci sešli v Micpě, se ovšem doslechli také Benjamínci.) Synové Izraele se ptali: „Řekněte, jak se ta hrozná věc stala.“4Onen levita, manžel té zavražděné ženy, odpověděl: „Přišel jsem se svou družkou přenocovat do benjamínské Gibeje.5Gibejští měšťané mě ale tu noc napadli. Obklíčili mě v domě a chtěli mě zavraždit. Mou družku znásilnili tak, že zemřela.6Vzal jsem ji, rozřezal a rozeslal do všech krajů izraelského dědictví, protože spáchali v Izraeli zvrhlost a hanebnost!7Hle, vy všichni jste synové Izraele. Poraďte se a na místě rozhodněte.“8Nato všechen lid povstal jako jeden muž se slovy: „Nikdo z nás nepůjde domů, nikdo se nevrátí do svého příbytku.9S Gibejí naložíme takto: Budeme losovat10a ve všech izraelských kmenech vybereme deset mužů ze sta, sto z tisíce a tisíc z desetitisíce, aby zásobovali vojsko. To se vypraví na benjamínskou Gibeu, aby pomstilo tu nevýslovnou hanebnost, kterou spáchali v Izraeli.“11Všichni Izraelci se tedy svorně jako jeden muž shromáždili proti tomu městu.12Izraelské kmeny pak do celého kmene Benjamín vyslaly muže se slovy: „Co se to u vás stalo za hroznou věc?13Hned nám ty gibejské ničemy vydejte, ať je zabijeme a vymýtíme zlo z Izraele.“ Benjamínci ale své izraelské bratry nemínili poslechnout.14Stáhli se ze svých měst ke Gibeji, aby proti Izraelcům vytáhli do boje.15Toho dne se z měst nahlásilo 26 000 benjamínských bojovníků kromě sedmi set znamenitých mužů, kteří se nahlásili z Gibeje.16V celém tom vojsku bylo sedm set znamenitých mužů, leváků, z nichž každý střílel z praku navlas přesně a neminul.17Z Izraelců (bez Benjamína) se nahlásilo 400 000 bojovníků, samých udatných mužů.18Zvedli se a táhli do Bet-elu, aby se dotazovali Boha: „Kdo z nás má vytáhnout do boje proti Benjamíncům jako první?“ Hospodin jim řekl: „První bude Juda.“19Izraelci tedy ráno vstali a položili se proti Gibeji.20Zatímco se ale před Gibeou šikovali k bitvě proti Benjamínovi,21Benjamínci vyrazili z Gibeje a pobili toho dne 22 000 Izraelců.22Když se pak izraelské vojsko vzchopilo, sešikovali se znovu k bitvě na stejném místě jako prvního dne.23(Izraelci totiž předtím šli a plakali před Hospodinem až do večera. Ptali se Hospodina: „Máme jít znovu do boje proti našim bratrům Benjamíncům?“ a Hospodin odpověděl: „Jděte proti nim.“)24A tak druhého dne Izraelci zaútočili na Benjamínce.25Ti jim ale i druhého dne vyrazili z Gibeje naproti a pobili dalších 18 000 Izraelců ozbrojených mečem.26Všichni Izraelci pak s celým vojskem táhli do Bet-elu. Když tam přišli, seděli toho dne s pláčem před Hospodinem, postili se až do večera a přinášeli Hospodinu zápalné a pokojné oběti.27Izraelci se tehdy dotazovali Hospodina, neboť tam v té době byla Truhla Boží smlouvy.28Pinchas, syn Eleazara, syna Áronova, stál před ní a ptal se: „Máme jít znovu do boje proti našim bratrům Benjamíncům, anebo máme přestat?“ „Jděte,“ odpověděl Hospodin. „Zítra je vydám do vašich rukou.“29Izrael tehdy rozestavil kolem Gibeje zálohy.30Třetího dne Izraelci vytáhli proti Benjamíncům a sešikovali se před Gibejí jako už dvakrát předtím.31Benjamínci vyrazili proti nim. Vzdálili se od města a jako už dvakrát předtím začali pobíjet vojáky. Na bitevním poli a na silnicích do Bet-elu a do Gibeje padlo z Izraele asi třicet mužů.32„Porážíme je jako předtím!“ říkali si tehdy Benjamínci. Izraelci si ale řekli: „Utíkejme, ať je odlákáme od města až k silnicím.“33Hlavní voj Izraelců tedy ustoupil a znovu se sešikoval v Baal-tamaru. Izraelská záloha zatím vyrazila ze svého stanoviště západně od Gibeje.34Deset tisíc znamenitých mužů z celého Izraele podniklo přímý útok na Gibeu. Strhl se prudký boj. Benjamínci vůbec nevěděli, jaká pohroma se blíží.35Hospodin tehdy Benjamína před Izraelem porazil. Onoho dne synové Izraele pobili 25 100 benjamínských mužů, samých bojovníků.36Benjamínovi synové viděli, že jsou poraženi. Izraelci ustoupili před Benjamínem jen proto, že počítali se zálohou, kterou u Gibeje nastražili.37Muži ze zálohy rychle vpadli do Gibeje, rozvinuli se a pobili celé město ostřím meče.38Izraelci měli se zálohou domluveno: „Až začne z města stoupat oblak dýmu,39Izraelci se v bitvě otočí.“ Benjamínci právě začali Izraelce pobíjet (padlo už asi třicet mužů), a tak si řekli: „Jistě, porážíme je jako v předchozí bitvě!“40Z města ale začal stoupat oblak dýmu. Benjamínci se otočili a hle – z města stoupá k nebi dým jako ze zápalné oběti!41Vtom se hlavní voj Izraelců obrátil. Když Benjamínci viděli, jaká pohroma se blíží, zhrozili se.42Dali se před Izraelci na útěk směrem k poušti, ale bojovníci z města[1] je dostihli, a tak je pobíjeli z obou stran.43Obklíčili Benjamínce a neúnavně je pronásledovali až na východ od Gibeje, kde je rozdrtili.44Osmnáct tisíc Benjamínců, samých udatných mužů, tam padlo.45Ostatní se dali na útěk do pouště k Rimonské skále, ale Izraelci jich na silnicích dostihli ještě pět tisíc. Hnali je až ke Gidomu, kde z nich dva tisíce pobili.46A tak toho dne nakonec padlo 25 000 benjamínských bojovníků, samých udatných mužů.47Šesti stům mužů se ale podařilo utéct do pouště k Rimonské skále, kde zůstali čtyři měsíce.48Izraelci se pak vrátili a vybíjeli všechna benjamínská města ostřím meče, včetně dobytka a všeho, nač narazili. Všechna města, na něž narazili, vypálili.

Sie sollen Verpflegung für das Volk holen, damit sie mit Geba in Benjamin, wenn sie dorthin kommen, machen, was es nach der Schandtat verdient, die es mitten in Israel begangen hat.
Dreitägige Schlacht der Israeliten gegen die Benjaminiter
11So versammelten sich alle Männer Israels, geschlossen wie ein Mann, bei der Stadt.12Und die Stämme Israels schickten Boten durch das ganze Gebiet des Stammes Benjamin und ließen sagen: Was ist das für eine üble Tat, die bei euch geschehen ist?[1]13Gebt uns also das üble Gesindel von Gibea heraus, wir wollen es töten und wollen das Böse aus Israel austilgen. Doch die Benjaminiter wollten nicht auf die Stimme ihrer Brüder, der Israeliten, hören.14Sie kamen vielmehr aus ihren Städten bei Gibea zusammen, um gegen die Israeliten in den Kampf zu ziehen.15Als man an jenem Tag die Benjaminiter aus den Städten musterte, zählte man sechsundzwanzigtausend mit Schwertern bewaffnete Männer, ohne die Einwohner von Gibea, von denen siebenhundert auserlesene Männer gemustert wurden.16Unter diesem ganzen Volk befanden sich siebenhundert besonders auserlesene Männer; sie waren alle Linkshänder und konnten einen Stein haargenau schleudern, ohne je das Ziel zu verfehlen.17Auch die Männer Israels ließen sich mustern. Es waren ohne die Benjaminiter vierhunderttausend mit dem Schwert bewaffnete Männer, alles tüchtige Krieger.18Sie brachen auf, zogen nach Bet-El hinauf und befragten Gott. Die Israeliten sagten: Wer von uns soll zuerst gegen die Benjaminiter in den Kampf ziehen? Der HERR antwortete: Zuerst Juda.19Die Israeliten brachen am Morgen auf und bezogen ihr Lager gegenüber Gibea.20Dann rückten die Männer Israels zum Kampf gegen die Benjaminiter aus und stellten sich ihnen gegenüber vor Gibea zum Kampf auf.21Die Benjaminiter rückten von Gibea aus und streckten an diesem Tag zweiundzwanzigtausend Israeliten zu Boden.22Doch das Volk, die Männer Israels, fassten wieder Mut und stellten sich noch einmal zum Kampf auf, am gleichen Ort, wo sie sich am ersten Tag aufgestellt hatten.23Die Israeliten zogen hinauf und weinten bis zum Abend vor dem HERRN. Sie fragten den HERRN: Soll ich noch einmal zum Kampf gegen die Söhne meines Bruders Benjamin antreten? Der HERR antwortete: Zieht hinauf gegen ihn!24Als nun die Israeliten am zweiten Tag gegen die Benjaminiter vorrückten,25zogen ihnen die Benjaminiter am zweiten Tag von Gibea aus entgegen und streckten noch einmal achtzehntausend Männer aus Israel zu Boden, die alle mit Schwertern bewaffnet waren.26Darauf zogen alle Israeliten, das ganze Volk, hinauf und kamen nach Bet-El. Dort saßen sie klagend vor dem HERRN; sie fasteten an jenem Tag bis zum Abend und brachten dem HERRN Brandopfer und Heilsopfer dar.27Dann befragten die Israeliten den HERRN. In Bet-El stand nämlich in jenen Tagen die Bundeslade Gottes28und Pinhas, der Sohn Eleasars, des Sohnes Aarons, stand in jenen Tagen vor ihm. Die Israeliten sagten: Soll ich noch einmal ausrücken zum Kampf mit den Söhnen meines Bruders Benjamin oder soll ich es sein lassen? Der HERR antwortete: Zieht hinauf! Denn morgen gebe ich ihn in deine Hand. (Nu 25,7)29Darauf legten die Israeliten rings um Gibea Leute in den Hinterhalt.30Am dritten Tag zogen die Israeliten gegen die Benjaminiter hinauf und stellten sich, wie die beiden vorigen Male, bei Gibea auf.31Die Benjaminiter rückten gegen das Volk aus, wurden aber so von der Stadt fortgelockt; sie begannen, wie die beiden vorigen Male, auf freiem Feld einige vom Volk zu erschlagen, an den Straßen, von denen die eine nach Bet-El, die andere nach Gibea hinaufführt, im Ganzen etwa dreißig Mann.32Die Benjaminiter dachten: Sie werden von uns geschlagen wie beim ersten Mal. Die Israeliten aber hatten gesagt: Wir wollen fliehen und ihn von der Stadt weg zu den Straßen hinlocken.33Alle Männer Israels zogen sich also von ihrem Platz zurück und stellten sich bei Baal-Tamar wieder auf, während die Israeliten, die im Hinterhalt lagen, von ihrer Stellung aus der Lichtung von Geba hervorbrachen.34Zehntausend ausgewählte Männer aus ganz Israel rückten gegenüber Gibea heran. Es gab einen schweren Kampf; die Benjaminiter erkannten nicht, dass das Unheil sie ereilte.35Der HERR schlug die Benjaminiter vor Israel und die Israeliten machten an jenem Tag fünfundzwanzigtausendundeinhundert Mann aus Benjamin nieder, alles mit Schwertern bewaffnete Krieger.36Die Benjaminiter sahen, dass sie geschlagen waren.
Die Israeliten gaben also Benjamin Gelände preis; denn sie vertrauten auf den Hinterhalt, den sie bei Gibea gelegt hatten.37Die Leute im Hinterhalt stürmten nun schnell auf Gibea los. Sie kamen aus dem Hinterhalt hervor und erschlugen alles in der Stadt mit scharfem Schwert.38Die Männer Israels hatten mit den Männern im Hinterhalt verabredet, dass sie eine Rauchwolke aus der Stadt aufsteigen lassen sollten.39Die Männer Israels machten kehrt im Kampf. Benjamin hatte begonnen, etwa dreißig Israeliten zu erschlagen, denn sie sagten: Sicher wird Israel von uns völlig geschlagen wie beim ersten Kampf!40Da begann das Signal aus der Stadt aufzusteigen, eine Rauchsäule. Die Benjaminiter wandten sich um und siehe, der Brand der ganzen Stadt war wie ein Opfer zum Himmel emporgestiegen!41Die Männer Israels hatten kehrtgemacht, da gerieten die Benjaminiter in Verwirrung; denn sie erkannten, dass das Unglück sie ereilt hatte.42Sie wandten sich von den Männern Israels ab auf die Wüste zu. Da konnten sie aber dem Kampf nicht entrinnen. Denn die Israeliten brachen aus der Stadt hervor und machten die Benjaminiter in ihrer Mitte nieder.43Sie umzingelten Benjamin, sie ließen ihn bis Menuha verfolgen, sie warfen sie bei Gibea von Osten her nieder.44Achtzehntausend Mann aus Benjamin fielen, alles kampferprobte Männer.45Sie wandten sich also um und flohen auf die Wüste zu, nach Sela-Rimmon. Die Israeliten hielten Nachlese und vernichteten auf den Straßen noch einmal fünftausend Mann. Bei der Verfolgung, die sich bis nach Gidom hinzog, erschlugen sie nochmals zweitausend von ihnen.46Die Gesamtzahl der Gefallenen aus Benjamin betrug an diesem Tag fünfundzwanzigtausend, lauter mit dem Schwert bewaffnete Krieger.47Nur sechshundert Mann konnten sich absetzen und in die Wüste nach Sela-Rimmon fliehen; sie blieben vier Monate in Sela-Rimmon. (Sd 21,13)48Die Männer Israels aber kehrten zu den Benjaminitern zurück und erschlugen alles, was zu finden war, mit scharfem Schwert, von der männlichen Stadtbevölkerung bis zum Vieh. Ebenso steckten sie alle Städte, die sie finden konnten, in Brand.

(Sd 20,41)35And the Lord defeated Benjamin before Israel, and the people of Israel destroyed 25,100 men of Benjamin that day. All these were men who drew the sword. (Sd 20,2)36So the people of Benjamin saw that they were defeated. The men of Israel gave ground to Benjamin, because they trusted the men in ambush whom they had set against Gibeah.37Then the men in ambush hurried and rushed against Gibeah; the men in ambush moved out and struck all the city with the edge of the sword. (Jz 8,19)38Now the appointed signal between the men of Israel and the men in the main ambush was that when they made a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city39the men of Israel should turn in battle. Now Benjamin had begun to strike and kill about thirty men of Israel. They said, “Surely they are defeated before us, as in the first battle.” (Sd 20,31)40But when the signal began to rise out of the city in a column of smoke, the Benjaminites looked behind them, and behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to heaven. (Jz 8,20)41Then the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed, for they saw that disaster was close upon them. (Sd 20,34)42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel in the direction of the wilderness, but the battle overtook them. And those who came out of the cities were destroying them in their midst. (Jz 8,15; Jz 8,24)43Surrounding the Benjaminites, they pursued them and trod them down from Nohah[2] as far as opposite Gibeah on the east.44Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell, all of them men of valor.45And they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. Five thousand men of them were cut down in the highways. And they were pursued hard to Gidom, and 2,000 men of them were struck down. And all the towns that they found they set on fire.

But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them from the city unto the highways.33And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baaltamar: and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah.34And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore: but they knew not that evil was near them.35And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword.36So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted unto the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah.37And the liers in wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.38Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city.39And when the men of Israel retired in the battle, Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons: for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.40But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven.41And when the men of Israel turned again, the men of Benjamin were amazed: for they saw that evil was come upon them.42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.43Thus they inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trode them down with ease over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.44And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour.45And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men; and pursued hard after them unto Gidom, and slew two thousand men of them.46So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valour.47But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness unto the rock Rimmon, and abode in the rock Rimmon four months.48And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand: also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.
