1 I stalo se po té ráně, že mluvil Hospodin k Mojžíšovi a Eleazarovi, synu Arona kněze, řka: 2 Sečtěte všecko množství synů Izraelských, od dvadcítiletých a výše po domích otců jejich, všecky, kteříž by mohli jíti k boji v Izraeli. 3 Tedy mluvil Mojžíš a Eleazar kněz k nim na polích Moábských, při Jordánu proti Jerichu, řka: 4 Sečtěte lid od dvadceti let majících a výše, jakž rozkázal Hospodin Mojžíšovi a synům Izraelským, kteříž byli vyšli z země Egyptské. 5 Ruben prvorozený byl Izraelův. Synové Rubenovi: Enoch, z něhož pošla čeled Enochitská; Fallu, z něhož čeled Fallutská; 6 Ezron, z něhož čeled Ezronitská; Charmi, z něhož čeled Charmitská. 7 Ty jsou čeledi Rubenovy. A bylo jich sečtených čtyřidceti tři tisíce, sedm set a třidceti. 8 A syn Fallův Eliab. 9 Synové pak Eliabovi: Nemuel, a Dátan, a Abiron. Kahat pak zplodil Amrama. 59 A jméno manželky Amramovy Jochebed, dcera Léví, kteráž se mu narodila v Egyptě; ona pak porodila Amramovi Arona a Mojžíše, a Marii sestru jejich. 60 Aronovi pak zrozeni jsou: Nádab a Abiu, Eleazar a Itamar. 61 Ale Nádab a Abiu zemřeli, když obětovali oheň cizí před Hospodinem. 62 I bylo jich načteno třimecítma tisíců, všech pohlaví mužského zstáří měsíce jednoho a výše; nebo nebyli počteni mezi syny Izraelskými, proto že jim nebylo dáno dědictví mezi syny Izraelskými. 63 Tito sečteni jsou od Mojžíše a Eleazara kněze; oni sečtli syny Izraelské na polích Moábských při Jordánu, naproti Jerichu. 64 Mezi těmito pak nebyl žádný z oněch sečtených od Mojžíše a Arona kněze, když počítali syny Izraelské na poušti Sinai; 65 (Nebo řekl byl Hospodin o nich: Smrtí zemrou na poušti;) a žádný z nich nepozůstal, jediné Kálef, syn Jefonův, a Jozue, syn Nun.

To jsou čeledi Danovy podle čeledí. 43 Všech šúchamských čeledí s jejich povolanými do služby bylo šedesát čtyři tisíce čtyři sta. 44 Ašerovci podle čeledí: od Jimny jimenská čeleď, od Jišvího jišvíjská čeleď, od Beríji beríjská čeleď. 45 Od Beríovců také: od Chebera cheberská čeleď, od Malkíela malkíelská čeleď. 46 Jméno Ašerovy dcery bylo Serach. 47 To jsou čeledi Ašerovců s jejich povolanými do služby; těch bylo padesát tři tisíce čtyři sta. 48 Neftalíovci podle čeledí: od Jachseela jachseelská čeleď, od Gúního gúníjská čeleď, 49 od Jesera jeserská čeleď, od Šiléma šilémská čeleď. 50 To jsou čeledi Neftalíovy podle čeledí; povolaných do služby z nich bylo čtyřicet pět tisíc čtyři sta. 51 Toto byli Izraelci povolaní do služby, celkem šest set jeden tisíc sedm set třicet. 52 Hospodin promluvil k Mojžíšovi: 53 „Těm bude rozdělena země v dědictví podle jmenného seznamu. 54 Většímu přidělíš větší dědictví, menšímu menší dědictví, každému bude dáno dědictví podle počtu povolaných do služby. 55 Země bude rozdělena losem; budou dědit podle jmen otcovských pokolení. 56 Dědictví ať je každému rozděleno losem, jak velikému, tak malému.“

Čítaly 45 400 mužů. 51 Toto je celkový součet synů Izraele: 601 730 mužů.^[9] 52 Hospodin promluvil k Mojžíšovi: 53 „Ať je těmto rodům přiděleno dědičné území podle počtu zapsaných osob. 54 Většímu rodu přiděl větší dědictví, menšímu menší – každému podle jeho velikosti. 55 Země bude ovšem rozdělena losem; budou přijímat dědictví podle počtu osob ve svém otcovském pokolení. 56 Dědictví jim bude rozděleno losem, ať už malému či velkému.“ 57 Toto je výčet levitů po jejich rodech: Geršon a z něj rod geršonský, Kehat a z něj rod kehatský, Merari a z něj rod merarijský. 58 Patří do nich tyto levitské rody: rod libnijský, rod hebronský, rod machlijský, rod mušijský, rod korachovský. Kehat zplodil Amrama. 59 Amramova žena jménem Jochebed byla levitská dcera narozená Levimu v Egyptě. Ta Amramovi porodila Árona, Mojžíše a jejich sestru Miriam. 60 Áronovi se narodil Nádab, Abihu, Eleazar a Itamar. 61 Nádab a Abihu však zemřeli, když před Hospodinem obětovali nepatřičný oheň.^[10] 62 Z levitů bylo započteno celkem 23 000 mužů starších jednoho měsíce. And Kohath begat Amram. 59 And the name of Amram' wife was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whom her mother bare to Levi in Egypt: and she bare unto Amram Aaron and Moses, and Miriam their sister. 60 And unto Aaron was born Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. 61 And Nadab and Abihu died, when they offered strange fire before the LORD. 62 And those that were numbered of them were twenty and three thousand, all males from a month old and upward: for they were not numbered among the children of Israel, because there was no inheritance given them among the children of Israel. 63 These are they that were numbered by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered the children of Israel in the plains of Moab by Jordan near Jericho. 64 But among these there was not a man of them whom Moses and Aaron the priest numbered, when they numbered the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai. 65 For the LORD had said of them, They shall surely die in the wilderness. And there was not left a man of them, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
