1 Stalo se pak, když uslyšeli všickni králové Amorejští, kteříž bydlili za Jordánem k západu, a všickni králové Kananejští, kteříž bydlili při moři, že vysušil Hospodin vody Jordánské před syny Izraelskými, dokudž ho nepřešli: zemdlelo srdce jejich, aniž zůstalo více v nich duše před tváří synů Izraelských. 2 Toho času řekl Hospodin k Jozue: Udělej sobě nože ostré, a obřež opět syny Izraelské po druhé. 3 I udělal sobě Jozue nože ostré, a obřezal syny Izraelské na pahrbku Aralot. 4 Tato pak jest příčina, pro kterouž je obřezal Jozue, že všecken lid, kterýž byl vyšel z Egypta, pohlaví mužského, všickni muži bojovní zemřeli byli na poušti na cestě po vyjití z Egypta. 5 Nebo obřezán byl všecken lid, kterýž byl vyšel, ale žádného z toho lidu, kterýž se zrodil na poušti, na cestě po vyjití z Egypta, neobřezali. 6 (Nebo čtyřidceti let chodili synové Izraelští po poušti, dokudž nezahynul všecken národ mužů bojovných, kteříž byli vyšli z Egypta, ješto neposlouchali hlasu Hospodinova, jimžto zapřisáhl Hospodin, že neukáže jim země, kterouž s přísahou zaslíbil dáti otcům jejich, že ji nám dá, zemi oplývající mlékem a strdí.) 7 Ale syny jejich, kteréž postavil na místo jejich, ty obřezal Jozue, že byli neobřezaní; nebo žádný jich neobřezoval na cestě. 8 Když pak byl všecken lid obřezán, zůstali na místě svém v ležení, dokudž se nezhojili. 9 I řekl Hospodin k Jozue: Dnes jsem odjal pohanění Egyptské od vás. A nazval jméno místa toho Galgal až do tohoto dne. 10 Když pak ležení měli synové Izraelští v Galgala, slavili velikunoc čtrnáctého dne toho měsíce u večer, na rovinách Jericha. 11 I jedli z úrod té země na zejtří po velikonoci chleby nekvašené, a pražmu téhož dne. 12 I přestala manna na zejtří, když jedli z obilé té země, a již více neměli synové Izraelští manny, ale jedli z úrod země Kananejské toho roku. 13 Stalo se pak, když byl Jozue na poli Jericha, že pozdvihl očí svých a viděl, an muž stojí naproti němu, maje v ruce meč dobytý. I šel Jozue k němu, a řekl jemu: Jsi-li náš, čili nepřátel našich? 14 I odpověděl: Nikoli, ale já jsem kníže vojska Hospodinova, a nyní jsem přišel. I padl Jozue tváří svou na zem, a pokloniv se, řekl jemu: Co pán můj chce mluviti služebníku svému? 15 Tedy odpověděl kníže vojska Hospodinova k Jozue: Szuj obuv svou s noh svých, nebo místo, na němž stojíš, svaté jest. I učinil tak Jozue.

— Před Jerichem - Jozue obřeže Izraelce. Lid slaví první hod beránka v zaslíbené zemi. Jozue se setkává s velitelem Hospodinových vojsk.

1 Když uslyšeli všichni emorejští králové, kteří sídlili na západ od Jordánu, a všichni kenaanští králové při moři, že Hospodin vysušil před Izraelci vody Jordánu, dokud nepřešli, ztratili odvahu a pozbyli před Izraelci ducha. 2 V tom čase vyzval Hospodin Jozua: „Zhotov si kamenné nože a znovu zaveď, podruhé, pro Izraelce obřízku.“ 3 Jozue si tedy zhotovil kamenné nože a obřezal Izraelce u Pahorku předkožek. 4 Důvod, proč je Jozue obřezal, byl tento: Všechen lid mužského pohlaví, který vyšel z Egypta, všichni bojovníci, pomřeli na poušti cestou po vyjití z Egypta. 5 Všechen lid, který vyšel, byl obřezán; neobřezávali však nikoho z lidu, kdo se narodil na poušti cestou po vyjití z Egypta. 6 Čtyřicet let chodili Izraelci pouští, dokud do jednoho nezmizel celý ten pronárod bojovníků, kteří vyšli z Egypta, protože neposlouchali Hospodina. O nich se Hospodin zapřisáhl, že jim nedovolí spatřit zemi, o které přisáhl jejich otcům, že nám ji dá, zemi oplývající mlékem a medem. 7 Místo nich povolal jejich syny a ty Jozue obřezal, neboť byli neobřezaní; cestou je totiž neobřezávali. 8 Když byl celý ten pronárod do jednoho obřezán, zůstali na svém místě v táboře, dokud se nezhojili. 9 Hospodin Jozuovi řekl: „Dnes jsem od vás odvalil egyptskou potupu.“ Proto pojmenoval to místo Gilgál (to je Odvalení); jmenuje se tak až dodnes. 10 Izraelci tábořili v Gilgálu. Čtrnáctého dne toho měsíce navečer slavili na Jerišských pustinách hod beránka. 11 Druhého dne po hodu beránka začali jíst nekvašené chleby a pražené zrní z výtěžku země, právě toho dne. 12 Toho druhého dne, kdy začali jíst z výtěžku země, přestala také mana; teď už Izraelci manu neměli, ale toho roku jedli z úrody kenaanské země. 13 Když byl Jozue u Jericha, rozhlédl se, a hle, naproti němu stojí muž a má v ruce tasený meč. Jozue šel k němu a zeptal se ho: „Patříš k nám nebo k našim protivníkům?“ 14 Odvětil: „Nikoli. Jsem velitel Hospodinova zástupu, právě jsem přišel.“ I padl Jozue tváří k zemi, klaněl se a otázal se: „Jaký rozkaz má můj pán pro svého služebníka?“ 15 Velitel Hospodinova zástupu Jozuovi odpověděl: „Zuj si z nohou opánky, neboť místo, na němž stojíš, je svaté.“ A Jozue tak učinil.

Hospodinovo vojsko

2 V té době řekl Hospodin Jozuovi: „Vyrob si kamenné nože a znovu obřež syny Izraele.“^[1] 3 Jozue si tedy vyrobil kamenné nože a obřezal syny Izraele u Gibeat-aralot, totiž Pahorku předkožek. 4 Důvod, proč je Jozue obřezal, je tento: Všechen lid mužského pohlaví, který vyšel z Egypta, všichni ti bojovníci, po vyjití z Egypta pomřeli cestou na poušti. 5 Všechen lid, který vycházel, byl sice obřezán, ale z lidu narozeného po vyjití z Egypta cestou na poušti neobřezali nikoho. 6 Synové Izraele chodili po poušti čtyřicet let, dokud celý ten národ bojovníků vyšlých z Egypta do posledního nevymřel, protože neposlouchali Hospodina. Hospodin jim odpřisáhl, že jim nedá spatřit tu zem, o níž Hospodin přísahal jejich otcům, že nám ji dá, totiž zem oplývající mlékem a medem.^[2] 7 Místo nich postavil jejich syny. Ty Jozue obřezal, poněvadž byli neobřezaní – cestou je totiž nikdo neobřezával. 8 Když pak byli všichni v celém národě obřezáni, zůstali na místě v táboře, dokud se nezotavili. 9 Hospodin tehdy Jozuovi řekl: „Dnešního dne jsem z vás odvalil egyptskou pohanu.“ A tak se to místo až dodnes jmenuje Gilgal, Odvalení. 10 Synové Izraele tedy tábořili v Gilgalu a navečer čtrnáctého dne onoho měsíce slavili na jerišských pláních Hod beránka. 11 Druhého dne jedli nekvašené chleby a téhož dne i pražené zrní z úrody té země. 12 Toho dne, kdy jedli z úrody země, také ustala mana. Synové Izraele již pak žádnou manu neměli, ale toho roku začali jíst ze sklizně kanaánské země. 13 Jednou, když byl Jozue poblíž Jericha, pozvedl oči a hle – kdosi před ním stojí s vytaseným mečem v ruce! Jozue šel k němu a oslovil ho: „Patříš k nám, nebo k našim nepřátelům?“ 14 „Nikoli,“ odpověděl on. „Já jsem vůdce Hospodinova vojska. Teď jsem tu.“ Jozue padl tváří k zemi a poklonil se. „Jaké příkazy má můj pán pro svého služebníka?“ zeptal se. 15 Vůdce Hospodinova vojska na to Jozuovi řekl: „Zuj si obuv z nohou, neboť místo, na němž stojíš, je svaté.“^[3] A Jozue to udělal.

Beschneidung und Pessachfest in Gilgal

2 Damals sagte der HERR zu Josua: Mach dir Steinmesser und beschneide die Israeliten ein zweites Mal! (Gn 17,10) 3 Da machte sich Josua Steinmesser und er beschnitt die Israeliten auf dem Hügel der Vorhäute. 4 Josua nahm die Beschneidung vor, weil das ganze Volk, das aus Ägypten ausgezogen war, das heißt die Männer, alle Krieger, nach ihrem Auszug aus Ägypten auf dem Weg durch die Wüste gestorben waren. 5 Als das Volk auszog, waren alle beschnitten. Alle aber, die nach dem Auszug aus Ägypten unterwegs in der Wüste geboren wurden, hatte man nicht beschnitten. 6 Denn vierzig Jahre lang wanderten die Israeliten durch die Wüste. Schließlich war das ganze Volk, alle Krieger, die aus Ägypten ausgezogen waren, umgekommen, weil sie nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN gehört hatten. The New Generation Circumcised

1 As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel. 10 While the people of Israel were encamped at Gilgal, they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month in the evening on the plains of Jericho.
