3 Děkuji za tebe Bohu, kterému sloužím s čistým svědomím jako moji předkové, když na tebe neustále myslím ve svých modlitbách ve dne v noci.4 Vzpomínám na tvé slzy a toužím tě spatřit, aby moje radost byla úplná.5 Připomínám si tvou upřímnou víru, kterou měla už tvá babička Lóis a tvá matka Euniké a kterou máš, jak jsem přesvědčen, i ty. 6 Proto ti kladu na srdce, abys rozněcoval oheň Božího daru, kterého se ti dostalo vzkládáním mých rukou.7 Neboť Bůh nám nedal ducha bázlivosti, nýbrž ducha síly, lásky a rozvahy.8 Nestyď se tedy vydávat svědectví o našem Pánu; ani za mne, jeho vězně, se nestyď, nýbrž snášej spolu se mnou všechno zlé pro evangelium. K tomu ti dá sílu Bůh,9 který nás spasil a povolal svatým povoláním ne pro naše skutky, nýbrž ze svého rozhodnutí a z milosti, kterou nám daroval v Kristu Ježíši před věčnými časy10 a nyní zjevil příchodem našeho Spasitele Ježíše Krista. On zlomil moc smrti a zjevil nepomíjející život v evangeliu.11 K jeho zvěstování jsem já byl ustanoven hlasatelem, apoštolem a učitelem.12 Proto také všechno snáším a nestydím se vydávat svědectví, neboť vím, komu jsem uvěřil. Jsem přesvědčen, že on má moc chránit, co mi svěřil, až do onoho dne.

13 Měj za vzor zdravých slov to, co jsi slyšel ode mne ve víře a lásce, která nás spojuje v Kristu Ježíši.14 Svěřený poklad chraň mocí Ducha svatého, který v nás přebývá. 15 Víš, že se ode mne odvrátili všichni v Asii, mezi nimi Fygelos a Hermogenés.16 Kéž Pán prokáže milosrdenství Oneziforově rodině. Několikrát mě potěšil a nestyděl se za mé řetězy;17 když přišel do Říma, usilovně mě hledal, až mě našel.18 Kéž mu Pán dá, aby u něho našel milosrdenství v onen den. A jaké služby vykonal v Efezu, víš nejlépe sám.

Ermutigung zu furchtlosem Zeugnis
6Darum rufe ich dir ins Gedächtnis: Entfache die Gnade Gottes wieder, die dir durch die Auflegung meiner Hände zuteilgeworden ist!
