1 A tak odšel odtud David, skryl se v jeskyni Adulam. To když uslyšeli bratří jeho i všecken dům otce jeho, sešli se tam k němu. 2 A shromáždili se k němu, kteřížkoli byli v ssoužení, a kteřížkoli byli zadlužilí, a kteřížkoli byli v hořkosti ducha, a byl nad nimi knížetem, tak že jich bylo s ním okolo čtyř set mužů. 3 Potom odšel odtud David do Masfa Moábského a řekl králi Moábskému: Prosím, nechť vcházejí k vám i vycházejí otec můj a matka má, dokudž nezvím, co se mnou učiní Bůh. 4 I přivedl je před krále Moábského, a bydlili s ním po všecky dny, v nichž zůstával David na tom hradě. 5 Ale prorok Gád řekl Davidovi: Nebývejž déle na tom hradě, jdi, navrať se do země Judské. I odšel David, a přišel do lesa Haret. 6 V tom uslyšel Saul, že by se zjevil David i muži, kteříž byli s ním. Saul pak bydlil v Gabaa pod hájem v Ráma, maje kopí své v rukou svých, a všickni služebníci jeho stáli před ním. 7 I řekl Saul služebníkům svým, kteříž stáli před ním: Slyšte medle, synové Jemini: Všechněm-li vám dá syn Izai pole a vinice? Všecky-li vás postaví za správce nad tisíci a sty, 8 Že jste se všickni spikli proti mně, aniž jest, kdo by mi oznámil? Již i syn můj učinil smlouvu s synem Izai, a však žádný z vás nelituje mne, aniž mi kdo oznámí, že pozdvihl syn můj služebníka mého proti mně, aby mi zálohy strojil, jakož se to již děje. 9 Odpověděl pak Doeg Idumejský, kterýž též stál s služebníky Saulovými, a řekl: Viděl jsem syna Izai, an přišel do Nobe k Achimelechovi synu Achitobovu. 10 Kterýž radil se o něho s Hospodinem a dal jemu potravy, také i meč Goliáše Filistinského dal jemu. 11 I poslal král, aby zavolali Achimelecha syna Achitobova, kněze, i vší čeledi otce jeho, totiž kněží, kteříž byli v Nobe. I přišli všickni před krále. 12 Tedy řekl Saul: Slyš nyní, synu Achitobův. Kterýž odpověděl: Ej, pane můj. 13 I dí k němu Saul: Proč jste se spikli proti mně, ty a syn Izai, když jsi jemu dal chléb a meč, a radils se s Bohem o něj, aby povstal proti mně k strojení mi záloh, jakož se to již děje? 14 Odpovídaje Achimelech králi, řekl: A kdo jest tak věrný ze všech služebníků tvých jako David, kterýž i zetěm královým jest, kterýž kráčí v poslušenství tvém, a vzácný jest v domě tvém? 15 Zdaliž jsem se nyní počal tázati Boha o něj? Odstup to ode mne. Nesčítejž král takové věci na služebníka svého, ani na koho z čeledi otce mého, neboť neví služebník tvůj o ničemž o tom ani nejmenší věci. 16 Ale král řekl: Smrtí umřeš Achimelechu, ty i všecken dům otce tvého. 17 I řekl král drabantům, kteříž stáli před ním: Obraťte se a zbíte kněží Hospodinovy, nebo i jejich ruka jest s Davidem; přes to vědouce, že utíká, nedali mi znáti. Služebníci však královští nechtěli vztáhnouti rukou svých, ani se obořiti na kněží Hospodinovy. 18 A protož řekl král Doegovi: Obrať ty se, a pobí ty kněží. Takž Doeg Idumejský obrátiv se, obořil se na kněží, a zbil toho dne osmdesáte a pět mužů, kteříž nosili efod lněný. 19 Nobe také město kněžské vyhubil ostrostí meče, od muže až do ženy, od malého až do požívajícího prsí, voly i osly, i dobytky pobil ostrostí meče. 20 Jediný toliko syn Achimelechův, syna Achitobova, jehož jméno bylo Abiatar, ušel a utekl k Davidovi. 21 Tedy oznámil Abiatar Davidovi, že Saul zmordoval kněží Hospodinovy. 22 I řekl David Abiatarovi: Vědělť jsem toho dne, když tam byl Doeg Idumejský, že jistotně oznámí Saulovi; jáť jsem přičinu dal k zhubení všech duší domu otce tvého. 23 Zůstaň u mne, neboj se; nebo kdož hledati bude bezživotí mého, hledati bude bezživotí tvého, ale ochráněn budeš u mne.

David v Adulámu a Mispě - David chrání svůj rod. Kolem něho se shromažďuje na čtyři sta mužů.

1 David odtud odešel a uchýlil se do jeskyně Adulámu. Když o tom uslyšeli jeho bratři a celý dům jeho otce, sestoupili tam k němu. 2 Také se kolem něho shromáždili všichni utlačovaní, všichni stíhaní věřitelem a všichni, jejichž život byl plný hořkosti. Stal se jejich velitelem. Bylo s ním na čtyři sta mužů. 3 Odtud David odešel do Mispy Moábské. Moábskému králi řekl: „Ať tu prosím zůstanou můj otec a má matka s vámi, dokud nezvím, jak se mnou Bůh naloží.“ 4 Nechal je u moábského krále a pobývali u něho po všechny dny, pokud byl David ve skalní skrýši. 5 Prorok Gád pak řekl Davidovi: „Nezůstávej ve skalní skrýši. Odeber se do judské země.“ David šel, až přišel do lesa Cheretu.

6 Saul se doslechl, že se David a jeho muži zase ukázali. Saul tehdy seděl v Gibeji pod tamaryškem na výšině s kopím v ruce a všichni jeho služebníci stáli před ním. 7 Tu řekl svým služebníkům, kteří před ním stáli: „Poslyšte, Benjamínovci! To vám všem dá Jišajův syn pole a vinice? Všechny vás ustanoví za velitele nad tisíci a nad sty? 8 Proto jste se všichni proti mně spikli? Nikdo mi neohlásí, že můj syn uzavřel se synem Jišajovým smlouvu! Nikdo z vás se kvůli mně netrápí a neohlásí mi, že můj syn podporuje mého služebníka, aby mi strojil úklady, jak je tomu právě dnes!“ 9 Dóeg Edómský, který byl ustanoven nad Saulovými služebníky, odpověděl: „Viděl jsem syna Jišajova, jak přišel do Nóbu k Achímelekovi, synu Achítúbovu. 10 Ten se kvůli němu doptával Hospodina, dal mu stravu na cestu, i meč Pelištejce Goliáše mu dal.“ 11 Král si předvolal kněze Achímeleka, syna Achítúbova, i celý jeho rod, kněžstvo z Nóbu. Všichni se ke králi dostavili. 12 Saul řekl: „Poslyš, synu Achítúbův!“ On odpověděl: „Tu jsem, můj pane.“ 13 Saul se na něj obořil: „Proč jste se proti mně spikli, ty a syn Jišajův? Dal jsi mu chléb a meč a doptával ses kvůli němu Boha, aby proti mně povstal a strojil mi úklady, jak je tomu právě dnes.“ 14 Achímelek králi odpověděl: „Kdo je mezi všemi tvými služebníky tak věrný jako David? Je zetěm krále, je příslušníkem tvé tělesné stráže a je ve tvém domě vážen. 15 Že bych se teprve dnes kvůli němu doptával Boha, toho jsem dalek. Ať král nepodkládá něco takového svému služebníku ani celému mému rodu! Vždyť tvůj služebník o tom všem vůbec nic neví, ani to nejmenší!“ 16 Král se však rozkřikl: „Propadl jsi smrti, Achímeleku, ty i celý tvůj rod.“ 17 A král poručil běžcům, kteří stáli před ním: „Obkličte a usmrťte Hospodinovy kněze. I jejich ruka byla s Davidem! Věděli, že prchá, a neohlásili mi to.“ Avšak královi služebníci nechtěli vztáhnout ruku a udeřit na kněze Hospodinovy. 18 Král tedy poručil Dóegovi: „Obklič je ty! Udeř na kněze!“ Dóeg Edómský je obklíčil, udeřil na kněze a usmrtil onoho dne osmdesát pět mužů, nosících lněný efód. 19 Také kněžské město Nób vybil ostřím meče; muže i ženy, pacholata i kojence, býky, osly a ovce pobil ostřím meče. 20 Unikl jen jeden syn Achímeleka, syna Achítúbova, jménem Ebjátar. Uprchl za Davidem. 21 Ebjátar oznámil Davidovi, že Saul Hospodinovy kněze povraždil. 22 David Ebjátarovi řekl: „Věděl jsem onoho dne, že je tam Dóeg Edómský a že to určitě oznámí Saulovi. To jako bych sám napadl všechny příslušníky tvého rodu. 23 Zůstaň se mnou, neboj se. Kdo ukládá o život mně, ukládá o život tobě. U mne jsi pod ochranou.“

Seděl právě pod tamaryškem na výšině v Gibeji, v ruce třímal kopí a všichni jeho služebníci stáli před ním. 7 „Poslouchejte, Benjamínci!“ řekl Saul služebníkům, kteří stáli před ním. „Copak vám Jišajův syn všem rozdá pole a vinice? Copak z vás všech udělá velitele tisíců a stovek? 8 Vždyť jste se proti mně všichni spikli! Nikdo mi neřekne, když se můj vlastní syn spřáhne s Jišajovým synem. Nikdo mě nelituje. Nikdo mi neřekne, když na mě vlastní syn poštve mého služebníka, aby na mě číhal, tak jako dnes!“ 9 Nato se ozval Doeg Edomský, představený Saulových služebníků: „Viděl jsem Jišajova syna, jak přišel do Nobu k Achimelechovi, synu Achitubovu. 10 Ten se o něm radil s Hospodinem a dal mu jídlo na cestu, dokonce mu dal meč Filištína Goliáše.“ 11 Král si hned nechal zavolat kněze Achimelecha, syna Achitubova, i celý jeho otcovský rod nobských kněží. Jak to, že jsi mu poskytl chléb a meč? Radil ses o něm s Bohem, aby proti mně povstal a číhal na mě, jak se dnes ukazuje!“ 14 Achimelech na to králi odpověděl: „Který ze všech tvých služebníků je věrný jako David? Vždyť je to králův zeť, velitel tvé tělesné stráže a požívá úcty tvého domu. 15 Copak jsem se o něm dnes radil s Bohem poprvé? Jistěže ne. Ať král svého služebníka ani mé příbuzné neobviňuje, neboť tvůj služebník o celé věci neví vůbec nic.“ 16 Král ale prohlásil: „Teď zemřeš, Achimelechu – ty i všichni tví příbuzní!“ 17 A hned rozkázal strážím, které stály u něj: „Na ně! Pobijte Hospodinovy kněze, protože i oni drží s Davidem! Věděli, že je na útěku, ale neohlásili mi to.“ Královi služebníci se ale neodvažovali vztáhnout ruku a dotknout se Hospodinových kněží. 18 Král se proto obrátil k Doegovi: „Na ně! Pobij ty kněze!“ A Doeg Edomský se na ně vrhl a pobil je. Toho dne zabil osmdesát pět mužů, kteří nosili plátěný efod. 19 Také kněžské město Nob pobil ostřím meče – muže i ženy, děti i nemluvňata, dobytek, osly i ovce, vše pobil mečem. 20 Jeden ze synů Achimelecha, syna Achitubova, jménem Abiatar ale unikl. Uprchl k Davidovi 21 a oznámil mu, že Saul povraždil Hospodinovy kněze. 22 David na to Abiatarovi řekl: „Už toho dne, kdy tam byl Doeg Edomský, jsem věděl, že to Saulovi určitě řekne. To kvůli mně zemřeli všichni tví příbuzní. 23 Zůstaň se mnou, neboj se. Ten, kdo usiluje o můj život, usiluje i o tvůj, u mě jsi ale v bezpečí.“

Saul Kills the Priests at Nob

6 Now Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men who were with him. Saul was sitting at Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the height with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him. (Gn 21,33; 1S 31,13) 7 And Saul said to his servants who stood about him, “Hear now, people of Benjamin; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, (1S 8,14) 8 that all of you have conspired against me? 11 Then the king sent to summon Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were at Nob, and all of them came to the king. 12 And Saul said, “Hear now, son of Ahitub.” And he answered, “Here I am, my lord.” 13 And Saul said to him, “Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword and have inquired of God for him, so that he has risen against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?” (1S 22,8; 1S 22,10) 14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, “And who among all your servants is so faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, and captain over^[3] your bodyguard, and honored in your house? 15 Is today the first time that I have inquired of God for him? No! Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hareth. 6 When Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him, (now Saul abode in Gibeah under a tree in Ramah, having his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him;) 7 Then Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, and make you all captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds; 8 That all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that sheweth me that my son hath made a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or sheweth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? 9 Then answered Doeg the Edomite, which was set over the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub. 10 And he enquired of the LORD for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine. 11 Then the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father' house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king. 12 And Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am , my lord. 13 And Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast enquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day? 14 Then Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who is so faithful among all thy servants as David, which is the king' son in law, and goeth at thy bidding, and is honourable in thine house? 15 Did I then begin to enquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute any thing unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father: for thy servant knew nothing of all this, less or more. 16 And the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father' house. 17 And the king said unto the footmen that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not shew it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD. 18 And the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod. 19 And Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen, and asses, and sheep, with the edge of the sword. 20 And one of the sons of Ahimelech the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David. 21 And Abiathar shewed David that Saul had slain the LORD' priests. 22 And David said unto Abiathar, I knew it that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father' house. 23 Abide thou with me, fear not: for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: but with me thou shalt be in safeguard.
