1Řekl pak Samuel Saulovi: Hospodin poslal mne, abych tě pomazal za krále nad lidem jeho, nad Izraelem, pozorujž tedy nyní hlasu slov Hospodinových.2Takto praví Hospodin zástupů: Rozpomenul jsem se na to, co jest činil Amalech Izraelovi, že se položil proti němu na cestě, když se bral z Egypta.3Protož i hned táhni a zkaz Amalecha, a zahlaďte jako proklaté všecko, což má. Neslitovávejž se nad ním, ale zahub od muže až do ženy, od malého až do toho, kterýž prsí požívá, od vola také až do ovce, a od velblouda až do osla.4Sebral tedy Saul lid, a sečtl je v Telaim, dvakrát sto tisíc pěších, a deset tisíc mužů Judských.5A přitáhl Saul až k městu Amalechovu, aby bojoval v údolí jeho.6I řekl Saul Cinejským: Jděte, oddělte se, vyjděte z prostředku Amalechitských, abych vás s nimi nezahladil; nebo vy jste učinili milosrdenství se všemi syny Izraelskými, když šli z Egypta. A tak odšel Cinejský z prostředku Amalecha.7I porazil Saul Amalecha od Hevilah, kudy se chodí do Sur, kteréž jest naproti Egyptu.8Jal také Agaga krále Amalechitského živého, lid pak všecken vyhladil ostrostí meče.9I zachoval Saul a lid jeho Agaga, a nejlepší bravy a skoty a krmný dobytek, a berany i všecko, což lepšího bylo, a nechtěli vyhubiti jich; což pak bylo ničemného a churavého, to zahubili.10A protož stalo se slovo Hospodinovo k Samuelovi, řkoucí:11Žel mi, že jsem Saule ustanovil za krále, nebo odvrátil se ode mne, a slov mých nevyplnil. I rozhorlil se Samuel náramně a volal k Hospodinu celou noc.12Vstav pak Samuel, šel vstříc Saulovi ráno. I oznámili Samuelovi, řkouce: Saul přišel na Karmel, a aj, připravil sobě místo, a odtud hnuv se, táhl a sstoupil do Galgala.13A když přišel Samuel k Saulovi, řekl jemu Saul: Požehnaný ty od Hospodina, vyplnil jsem slovo Hospodinovo.14Samuel pak řekl: Jaké pak jest to bečení ovcí těch v uších mých, a řvání volů, kteréž já slyším?15Odpověděl Saul: Od Amalechitských přihnali je; nebo zachoval lid, což nejlepšího bylo z bravů a skotů, aby to obětoval Hospodinu Bohu tvému, ostatek pak jsme zahladili jako proklaté.16I řekl Samuel Saulovi: Dopusť, ať oznámím tobě, co jest mi mluvil Hospodin noci této. Dí jemu: Oznam.17Tedy řekl Samuel: Zdali jsi nebyl maličký sám u sebe? A předce učiněn jsi hlavou pokolení Izraelských, a pomazal tě Hospodin za krále nad Izraelem.18A poslal tě Hospodin na cestu a řekl tobě: Jdi, zahub jako proklaté hříšníky ty Amalechitské, a bojuj proti nim, dokudž byste nevyhladili jich.19Pročež jsi tedy neuposlechl hlasu Hospodinova, ale obrátil jsi se k loupeži, a učinils zlou věc před očima Hospodinovýma?20Odpověděl Saul Samuelovi: Však jsem uposlechl hlasu Hospodinova, a šel jsem cestou, kterouž poslal mne Hospodin, a přivedl jsem Agaga krále Amalechitského, i Amalechitské jako proklaté vyhubil jsem.21Ale lid vzal z loupeží bravy a skoty přední z věcí proklatých, k obětování Hospodinu Bohu tvému v Galgala.22I řekl Samuel: Zdaliž líbost takovou má Hospodin v zápalích a v obětech, jako když se poslušenství koná hlasu Hospodinova? Aj, poslouchati lépe jest, nežli obětovati, a ku poslušenství státi, nežli tuk skopců přinášeti.23Nebo zpoura jest takový hřích jako čarodějnictví, a přestoupiti přikázaní jako modlářství a obrazové. Poněvadž jsi pak zavrhl řeč Hospodinovu, i on také zavrhl tě, abys nebyl králem.24Tedy řekl Saul Samuelovi: Zhřešil jsem, že jsem přestoupil rozkaz Hospodinův a slova tvá, nebo jsem se bál lidu, a povolil jsem hlasu jejich.25Protož nyní odpusť, prosím, hřích můj, a navrať se se mnou, ať se pomodlím Hospodinu.26I řekl Samuel Saulovi: Nenavrátím se s tebou; nebo jsi zavrhl řeč Hospodinovu, tebe také zavrhl Hospodin, abys nebyl králem nad Izraelem.27A když se obrátil Samuel, aby odšel, Saul uchytil křídlo pláště jeho, i odtrhlo se.28Tedy řekl jemu Samuel: Odtrhlť jest Hospodin království Izraelské dnes od tebe, a dal je bližnímu tvému, lepšímu, než jsi ty.29Však proto vítěz Izraelský klamati nebude, ani želeti; nebo není člověkem, aby měl čeho želeti.30On pak řekl: Zhřešilť jsem, ale vždy mne cti, prosím, před staršími lidu mého a před Izraelem, a navrať se se mnou, abych se pomodlil Hospodinu Bohu tvému.31I navrátiv se Samuel, šel za Saulem, a pomodlil se Saul Hospodinu.32Řekl pak Samuel: Přiveďte ke mně Agaga, krále Amalechitského. I šel k němu Agag nádherně; nebo řekl Agag: Jistě odešla hořkost smrti.33Ale Samuel řekl: Jakož uvedl sirobu na ženy meč tvůj, takť osiří matka tvá nad jiné ženy. I rozsekal Samuel Agaga na kusy před Hospodinem v Galgala.34Potom odšel Samuel do Ráma, Saul pak vstoupil do domu svého, do Gabaa Saulova.35A již potom více Samuel neviděl Saule až do dne smrti své; však plakal Samuel Saule. Hospodin pak želel toho, že učinil Saule králem nad Izraelem.
— Zavržení Saula - Saul sice poráží Amáleka, ale ušetří krále Agaga a zachová nejlepší část kořisti. Samuel mu ohlašuje, že Hospodin jej zavrhl.
1 Samuel řekl Saulovi: „Hospodin mě poslal, abych tě pomazal za krále nad jeho lidem, nad Izraelem. Nyní tedy poslechni Hospodinova slova. 2 Toto praví Hospodin zástupů: Mám v patrnosti, co učinil Amálek Izraeli; položil se mu do cesty, když vystupoval z Egypta.3 Nyní jdi a pobij Amáleka; jako klaté zničíte vše, co mu patří. Nebudeš ho šetřit, ale usmrtíš muže i ženu, pachole i kojence, býka i ovci, velblouda i osla!“ 4 Saul svolal lid a dal mu nastoupit v Telaímu; bylo to dvě stě tisíc pěších a judských mužů deset tisíc.5 Pak Saul přitáhl až k Amálekovu městu a v úvalu umístil zálohu.6 Kénijcům Saul vzkázal: „Odejděte od Amáleka a sestupte dolů, abych vás nesmetl spolu s ním. Vy jste přece prokázali milosrdenství všem Izraelcům, když vystupovali z Egypta.“ Kénijci tedy od Amáleka odešli.7 A Saul Amáleka pobíjel od Chavíly směrem na Šúr, který je naproti Egyptu.8 Amáleckého krále Agaga chytil živého, ale ostřím meče vyhubil všechen lid jako klatý.9 Saul a jeho lid ušetřil Agaga a nejlepší kusy z bravu a skotu, z druhého vrhu, a ze skopců a vůbec ze všeho pěkného, a nechtěli je vyhubit jako klaté. Jako klaté zničili jen to, co bylo podřadné a bezcenné. 10 I stalo se slovo Hospodinovo k Samuelovi:11 „Lituji, že jsem ustanovil Saula králem, neboť se ode mne odvrátil a mými slovy se neřídí.“ Tu vzplanul Samuel hněvem a po celou noc úpěl k Hospodinu.12 Za časného jitra šel Samuel vstříc Saulovi. Tu oznámili Samuelovi: „Saul přitáhl na Karmel a postavil si tam znamení své moci. Pak se obrátil, táhl dál a sestoupil do Gilgálu.“13 Když Samuel přišel k Saulovi, ten ho pozdravil: „Buď požehnán od Hospodina. Řídil jsem se Hospodinovým slovem.“14 Samuel se však tázal: „A co to bečení ovcí, jež doléhá k mým uším, a to bučení dobytka, které slyším?“15 Saul vysvětloval: „Přivedli je od Amáleka. Lid ušetřil nejlepší kusy z bravu a skotu, aby je obětoval Hospodinu, tvému Bohu. Ale zbytek jsme vyhubili jako klatý.“ 16 Samuel Saula přerušil: „Přestaň! Musím ti oznámit, co ke mně této noci Hospodin promluvil.“ Řekl mu: „Mluv.“17 Samuel pravil: „Cožpak nejsi vůdcem izraelských kmenů, ačkoli sis dříve připadal nepatrný? Hospodin tě pomazal za krále nad Izraelem.18 Hospodin tě také poslal na cestu s rozkazem: Jdi a jako klaté vyhubíš ty amálecké hříšníky. Budeš proti nim bojovat, dokud je úplně nezničíš.19Proč jsi Hospodina neuposlechl, ale vrhl se na kořist a dopustil se toho, co je v Hospodinových očích zlé?“ 20 Saul vysvětloval Samuelovi: „Vždyť jsem Hospodina uposlechl. Šel jsem cestou, na kterou mě Hospodin poslal. Přivedl jsem amáleckého krále Agaga a Amáleka jsem zničil jako klatého.21 Ale lid si vzal z kořisti, z bravu a skotu, to nejlepší z klatého, aby měl co obětovat v Gilgálu Hospodinu, tvému Bohu.“22 Tu řekl Samuel: „Líbí se Hospodinu zápalné oběti a obětní hody víc než poslouchat Hospodina? Hle, poslouchat je lepší než obětní hod, pozorně rozvažovat je víc než tuk beranů. 23 Vzdor je jako hříšné věštění a svéhlavost jako kouzla a ctění domácích bůžků. Protože jsi zavrhl Hospodinovo slovo, i on zavrhl tebe jako krále.“ 24 Saul doznal Samuelovi: „Zhřešil jsem, neboť jsem přestoupil Hospodinův rozkaz i tvá slova. Bál jsem se lidu, proto jsem je uposlechl.25 Nyní však sejmi ze mne prosím můj hřích a vrať se se mnou; chci se poklonit Hospodinu.“26 Samuel však Saula odmítl: „Nevrátím se s tebou. Zavrhl jsi Hospodinovo slovo, proto Hospodin zavrhl tebe, abys nebyl králem nad Izraelem.“27 Když se Samuel obrátil k odchodu, uchopil Saul cíp jeho pláště a ten se odtrhl.28 Samuel mu řekl: „Dnes od tebe Hospodin odtrhl izraelské království a dal je tvému bližnímu, lepšímu, než jsi ty.29 Věčný Bůh Izraele neklame ani nebude litovat; není to přece člověk, aby litoval.“30 Saul se dožadoval: „Zhřešil jsem. Nyní mi však prosím prokaž poctu před staršími mého lidu i před Izraelem a vrať se se mnou. Chci se poklonit Hospodinu, tvému Bohu.“31 Samuel se tedy vrátil a šel za Saulem. A Saul se poklonil Hospodinu. 32 Pak Samuel poručil: „Přiveďte ke mně amáleckého krále Agaga!“ Agag šel k němu sebevědomě, neboť si řekl: „Zajisté je odvrácena hořkost smrti.“33 Samuel řekl: „Jako tvůj meč zbavoval ženy dětí, tak ať je tvá matka bezdětná nad jiné ženy.“ A Samuel rozsekal Agaga na kusy před Hospodinem v Gilgálu. 34 Potom Samuel odešel do Rámy, zatímco Saul vystoupil ke svému domu, do Gibeje Saulovy.35 A Samuel už nikdy až do dne své smrti Saula nespatřil, avšak pro Saula truchlil. Hospodin litoval, že Saula ustanovil králem nad Izraelem.
1Samuel promluvil k Saulovi: „Hospodin mě kdysi poslal, abych tě pomazal za krále nad jeho lidem, Izraelem; proto teď slyš Hospodinova slova.2Tak praví Hospodin zástupů: Chci potrestat Amaleka za to, co provedl Izraeli – že se proti němu postavil na jejich cestě z Egypta.3Teď tedy jdi a napadni Amalekovce. Všechny, kdo k nim patří, vyhlaďte jako proklaté. Nešetři je; pobij muže i ženy, děti i nemluvňata, skot i brav, velbloudy i osly!“4Saul tedy svolal vojsko a nechal je nastoupit v Telaimu: 200 000 pěších a k tomu 10 000 mužů z Judska.5Potom Saul přitáhl až k Amalekovu městu a v údolí ukryl zálohu.6Kenijcům zatím vzkázal: „Odejděte, odstěhujte se, opusťte Amalekovce, abych vás nesmetl s nimi. Vy jste se přece ke všem Izraelcům zachovali laskavě, když vycházeli z Egypta.“ A tak se Kenijci od Amalekovců odstěhovali.7Saul potom Amalekovce pobíjel celou cestu od Chavíly až k Šuru před egyptskou hranicí.8Agaga, krále Amalekovců, dopadli živého, ale všechen lid vyhubili mečem jako proklatý.9Saul se svým vojskem však ušetřil Agaga i nejlepší brav a skot. Chovné ani mladé kusy a vůbec všechno, co bylo dobré, nechtěli vyhladit, ale všechno podřadné a slabé vyhladili jako proklaté.10Tehdy Samuel dostal slovo Hospodinovo:11„Je mi líto, že jsem Saula ustanovil za krále, protože se ode mě odvrátil a nevyplnil mé slovo.“ Samuel vzplanul hněvem a celou noc volal k Hospodinu.12Brzy ráno se vydal za Saulem. Řekli mu ale: „Saul odešel na Karmel. Víš, že si tam staví pomník? Odtud se vydal dolů do Gilgalu.“13Když pak Samuel dorazil za Saulem, ten ho pozdravil: „Hospodin ti žehnej! Vyplnil jsem Hospodinovo slovo.“14„A co to bečení ovcí, které ke mně doléhá?“ řekl mu na to Samuel. „Co to bučení dobytka, které slyším?“15„Ty přivedli od Amalekovců,“ odpověděl Saul. „Lid ušetřil nejlepší brav a skot, aby je obětovali Hospodinu, tvému Bohu. Všechno ostatní jsme ale vyhladili jako proklaté.“16„Přestaň,“ zarazil Samuel Saula. „Povím ti, co mi dnes v noci řekl Hospodin.“ „Pověz,“ řekl Saul.17Samuel tedy promluvil: „Nepřipadal sis kdysi nepatrný? Přesto ses právě ty stal vůdcem izraelských kmenů. Sám Hospodin tě pomazal za krále nad Izraelem.18A Hospodin tě vyslal na cestu s úkolem: ‚Jdi a vyhlaď ty hříšné Amalekovce jako proklaté. Bojuj s nimi, dokud s nimi neskoncuješ!‘19Proč jsi tedy Hospodina neposlechl? Proč ses vrhl na kořist a zachoval se v Hospodinových očích zle?“20„Vždyť jsem Hospodina poslechl!“ odpověděl Saul. „Vydal jsem se na cestu, na kterou mě Hospodin poslal. Přivedl jsem amaleckého krále Agaga a Amalekovce jsem vyhladil jako proklaté.21Lid pak vzal z kořisti nejlepší brav a skot propadlý klatbě, aby je v Gilgalu obětovali Hospodinu, tvému Bohu.“22Samuel tehdy prohlásil: „Těší snad Hospodina zápaly a oběti, jako když ho někdo poslušností ctí? Poslouchat je lepší nežli obětovat, věnovat mu pozornost je nad tuk beraní.23Hříchem jak věštění je totiž vzpoura, zlá jak modlářství je svévole. Protožes odmítl slovo Hospodina, on tě odmítl za krále!“24„Zhřešil jsem!“ řekl mu na to Saul. „Porušil jsem Hospodinův rozkaz i tvé pokyny. Bál jsem se totiž lidu, proto jsem je poslechl.25Teď mi už ale prosím odpusť můj hřích. Vrať se se mnou, abych se poklonil Hospodinu.“26„Nevrátím se s tebou,“ odpověděl mu Samuel. „Protože jsi odmítl Hospodinovo slovo, i Hospodin odmítl tebe. Nebudeš králem Izraele.“27Samuel se tehdy obrátil k odchodu, ale Saul ho chytil za cíp pláště a ten se odtrhl.28Samuel mu na to řekl: „Hospodin dnes od tebe odtrhl izraelské království a dal je tvému bližnímu, lepšímu, než jsi ty.29Věčný izraelský to rozhodně neodvolá a nebude toho litovat. Není to přece člověk, aby litoval.“[1]30„Zhřešil jsem,“ opakoval Saul. „Teď mi ale prosím prokaž poctu před stařešiny mého lidu a před Izraelem a vrať se se mnou, abych se poklonil Hospodinu, tvému Bohu.“31Samuel se tedy vrátil za Saulem a Saul se poklonil Hospodinu.32Potom Samuel přikázal: „Přiveďte ke mně Agaga, krále Amalekovců.“ Agag k němu zvolna vykročil. „Snad už to smrtelné utrpení končí,“ říkal si. Samuel tehdy prohlásil:33„Za to, že tvůj meč bral ženám děti, bude tvá matka bezdětná nad jiné ženy!“ A Samuel tam v Gilgalu před Hospodinem rozsekal Agaga na kusy.34Potom Samuel odešel do Rámy a Saul se vrátil domů do Gibeje Saulovy.35Samuel pak už Saula do smrti nespatřil, ale truchlil nad ním. A Hospodin litoval, že Saula učinil králem Izraele.
Sauls erneute Verwerfung nach dem Sieg über Amalek
1Samuel sagte zu Saul: Der HERR hatte mich gesandt, um dich zum König seines Volkes Israel zu salben. Darum gehorche jetzt den Worten des HERRN! (1S 9,16; 1S 10,1)2So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen: Ich habe beobachtet, was Amalek Israel angetan hat: Es hat sich ihm in den Weg gestellt, als Israel aus Ägypten heraufzog. (Ex 17,8; Dt 25,17)3Darum zieh jetzt in den Kampf und schlag Amalek! Ihr werdet an allem, was ihm gehört, den Bann vollziehen! Schone es nicht, sondern töte Männer und Frauen, Kinder und Säuglinge, Rinder und Schafe, Kamele und Esel! (Jz 6,21)4Saul bot das Volk auf und musterte es in Telaim. Es waren zweihunderttausend Mann Fußvolk, dazu noch zehntausend Mann mit den Judäern. (2S 24,2)5Saul rückte bis zur Stadt der Amalekiter vor und legte im Bachtal einen Hinterhalt.6Den Kenitern aber ließ er sagen: Auf, zieht fort, verlasst das Gebiet der Amalekiter, damit ich euch nicht zusammen mit ihnen vernichte; denn ihr habt euch gegenüber allen Israeliten freundlich verhalten, als sie aus Ägypten heraufzogen. Da verließen die Keniter das Gebiet der Amalekiter. (Sd 1,16)7Saul aber schlug die Amalekiter zwischen Hawila und der Gegend von Schur, das Ägypten gegenüberliegt. (Gn 20,1; Gn 26,18)8Agag, den König von Amalek, brachte er lebend in seine Gewalt; aber am ganzen Volk vollzog er den Bann mit der Schärfe des Schwertes.9Saul und das Volk schonten Agag, ebenso auch die besten von den Schafen und Rindern, nämlich das Mastvieh und die Lämmer, sowie alles, was sonst noch wertvoll war. Das wollten sie nicht zum Banngut machen. Nur alles Minderwertige und Wertlose machten sie zum Banngut.[1]10Deshalb erging das Wort des HERRN an Samuel:11Es reut mich, dass ich Saul zum König gemacht habe. Denn er hat sich von mir abgewandt und hat meine Befehle nicht ausgeführt. Das verdross Samuel sehr und er schrie die ganze Nacht zum HERRN. (Gn 6,7)12Am nächsten Morgen machte sich Samuel auf den Weg und ging Saul entgegen. Man hatte Samuel mitgeteilt: Saul ist nach Karmel gekommen und hat sich ein Denkmal errichtet; dann ist er umgekehrt und nach Gilgal hinab weitergezogen. (Jz 15,55; 1S 25,2)13Als Samuel nun zu Saul kam, sagte Saul zu ihm: Gesegnet seist du vom HERRN. Ich habe den Befehl des HERRN ausgeführt. (Gn 14,19)14Samuel erwiderte: Und was bedeutet dieses Blöken von Schafen, das mir in die Ohren dringt, und das Gebrüll der Rinder, das ich da höre?15Saul antwortete: Man hat sie aus Amalek mitgebracht, weil das Volk die besten von den Schafen und Rindern geschont hat, um sie dem HERRN, deinem Gott, zu opfern. Das Übrige haben wir zum Banngut gemacht.16Da sagte Samuel zu Saul: Hör auf! Ich will dir verkünden, was der HERR mir heute Nacht gesagt hat. Saul antwortete: Sprich!17Samuel sagte: Bist du nicht, obwohl du dir gering vorkommst, das Haupt der Stämme Israels? Der HERR hat dich zum König von Israel gesalbt. (1S 9,21)18Dann hat dich der HERR auf den Weg geschickt und gesagt: Geh und vollziehe an den Übeltätern, an den Amalekitern, den Bann; kämpfe gegen sie, bis du sie vernichtet hast!19Warum hast du nicht auf die Stimme des HERRN gehört, sondern hast dich auf die Beute gestürzt und getan, was dem HERRN missfällt? (1S 14,32; 1S 28,18)20Saul erwiderte Samuel: Ich habe doch auf die Stimme des HERRN gehört; ich bin den Weg gegangen, auf den der HERR mich geschickt hat; ich habe Agag, den König von Amalek, hergebracht und an den Amalekitern den Bann vollzogen.21Aber das Volk hat von der Beute einige Schafe und Rinder genommen, das Beste vom Banngut, um es dem HERRN, deinem Gott, in Gilgal zu opfern.22Samuel aber sagte:
Hat der HERR an Brandopfern und Schlachtopfern das gleiche Gefallen / wie am Gehorsam gegenüber der Stimme des HERRN? Wahrhaftig, Gehorsam ist besser als Opfer, / Hinhören besser als das Fett von Widdern. (Iz 1,11; Jr 7,22; Oz 6,6; Am 5,21; Mi 6,6)23Denn wie Sünde der Wahrsagerei ist Widerspenstigkeit, / wie Frevel mit Götzenbildern ist Auflehnung. / Weil du das Wort des HERRN verworfen hast, / verwirft er dich als König. (Dt 18,10; 1S 16,1)24Da sagte Saul zu Samuel: Ich habe gesündigt; denn ich habe mich über den Befehl des HERRN und deine Anweisungen hinweggesetzt, ich habe mich vor dem Volk gefürchtet und auf seine Stimme gehört. (2S 12,13; Iz 51,12)25Darum nimm doch die Sünde von mir weg und kehr mit mir zurück, damit ich den HERRN anbete!26Samuel erwiderte Saul: Ich kehre nicht mit dir zurück; denn du hast das Wort des HERRN verworfen und nun hat der HERR dich verworfen, sodass du nicht mehr König von Israel sein kannst. (1S 13,14)27Als Samuel sich umwandte, um wegzugehen, griff Saul nach dem Zipfel seines Mantels, doch der riss ab. (1Kr 11,29)28Da sagte Samuel zu ihm: So entreißt dir heute der HERR die Herrschaft über Israel und gibt sie einem anderen, der besser ist als du. (1S 28,17)29Er, der ewige Ruhm Israels, kann weder lügen noch bereuen. Er ist doch kein Mensch, sodass er etwas bereuen müsste. (Nu 23,19)30Saul erwiderte: Ich habe gesündigt; erweise mir aber jetzt vor den Ältesten des Volkes und vor Israel die Ehre, mit mir zurückzukehren, damit ich den HERRN, deinen Gott, anbete! (J 12,43)31Da kehrte Samuel um und folgte Saul und Saul betete den HERRN an.32Darauf sagte Samuel: Bringt Agag, den König von Amalek, zu mir! Agag wurde in Fesseln zu ihm gebracht und sagte: Wahrhaftig, die Bitterkeit des Todes ist gewichen.33Samuel aber erwiderte:
Wie dein Schwert die Frauen um ihre Kinder gebracht, / so sei unter den Frauen deine Mutter kinderlos gemacht.
