1 Satan pak povstal proti Izraelovi, a ponukl Davida, aby sečtl lid Izraelský. 2 Protož řekl David Joábovi a knížatům lidu: Jděte, sečtěte lid Izraelský od Bersabé až do Dan, a oznamte mi, abych věděl počet jich. 3 Ale Joáb řekl: Přidejž Hospodin lidu svého, což ho koli, stokrát více. I zdaliž, pane můj králi, nejsou všickni oni pána mého služebníci? Proč toho vyhledává pán můj? Proč má býti uvedena pokléska na Izraele? 4 Ale řeč královská přemohla Joába. A tak vyšed Joáb, prošel všecken lid Izraelský; potom navrátil se do Jeruzaléma. 5 I dal Joáb počet lidu sečteného Davidovi. A bylo všeho lidu Izraelského jedenáctekrát sto tisíc mužů bojovných, lidu pak Judského čtyřikrát sto tisíc, a sedmdesáte tisíc mužů bojovných. 6 Pokolení pak Léví a Beniaminova nepočítal mezi ně; nebo v ošklivosti měl Joáb rozkázaní královo. 7 Ovšem nelíbila se Bohu ta věc, protož ranil Izraele. 8 I řekl David Bohu: Zhřešil jsem těžce, že jsem to učinil, ale nyní odejmi, prosím, nepravost služebníka svého, nebo jsem velmi bláznivě učinil. 9 V tom mluvil Hospodin k Gádovi, proroku Davidovu, řka: 10 Jdi a rci Davidovi: Toto praví Hospodin: Trojíť věci podávám, vyvol sobě jednu z nich, kteroužť bych učinil. 11 Tedy přišel Gád k Davidovi a řekl jemu: Toto praví Hospodin: Vol sobě, 12 Buďto hlad za tři léta, buď abys za tři měsíce kažen byl od protivníků svých, když by meč nepřátel tvých dotekl se tebe, aneb aby za tři dni meč Hospodinův a mor byl v zemi, a anděl Hospodinův aby hubil po všech končinách Izraelských. Již tedy viz, co mám odpovědíti tomu, kterýž mne poslal. 13 I řekl David Gádovi: Úzko mi náramně; nechť prosím, upadnu v ruce Hospodinovy, neboť jsou mnohá slitování jeho, jediné ať v ruce lidské neupadám. 14 A tak uvedl Hospodin mor na lid Izraelský, a padlo jich z Izraele sedmdesáte tisíc mužů. 15 Poslal také Bůh anděla i na Jeruzalém, aby hubil jej. A když hubil, popatřil Hospodin, a zželelo mu se toho zlého. I řekl andělu, kterýž hubil: Dostiť jest, zdrž ruku svou. Anděl pak stál podlé humna Ornana Jebuzejského. 16 Mezi tím pozdvih David očí svých, uzřel anděla Hospodinova, stojícího mezi zemí a nebem, a meč dobytý v ruce jeho, vztažený proti Jeruzalému. I padl David, ano i starší, odíni jsouce žíněmi, na tváři své. 17 A řekl David Bohu: Zdaliž jsem já nerozkázal čísti lidu? A jáť jsem sám ten, kterýž jsem zhřešil, a převelmi jsem zle učinil, tyto pak ovce co učinily? Hospodine, Bože můj, nechť jest, prosím, ruka tvá proti mně, a proti domu otce mého, ale proti lidu tvému nechť není rána. 18 Zatím anděl Hospodinův mluvil k Gádovi, aby řekl Davidovi, aby vstoupě, vzdělal oltář Hospodinu na humně Ornana Jebuzejského. 19 I vstoupil David podlé řeči Gádovy, kterouž byl mluvil ve jménu Hospodinovu. 20 A obrátiv se Ornan, uzřel toho anděla, a čtyři synové jeho s ním skryli se. Hle, přidám i voly tyto k oběti zápalné, a smyky na drva, i pšenici k oběti suché, to všecko dávám. 24 Král pak David řekl Ornanovi: Nikoli, ale raději koupím je od tebe za slušné peníze; neboť nevezmu, což tvého jest, Hospodinu, aniž budu obětovati oběti zápalné darem dané. 25 I dal David Ornanovi za to místo zlata ztíží šesti set lotů. 26 A vzdělal tu David oltář Hospodinu, a obětoval zápaly a oběti pokojné, a vzýval Hospodina. Kterýžto vyslyšel ho, spustiv oheň s nebe na oltář zápalu. 27 I řekl Hospodin andělu, aby obrátil meč svůj do pošvy jeho. 28 Toho času když uzřel David, že jej vyslyšel Hospodin na humně Ornana Jebuzejského, obětovával tu oběti. 29 Nebo stánek Hospodinův, kterýž byl učinil Mojžíš na poušti, a oltář k zápalu toho času byl na výsosti v Gabaon. 30 David pak nemohl tam choditi k němu, aby hledal Boha, proto že se zhrozil meče anděla Hospodinova.

Nyní přenes prosím vinu svého služebníka, neboť jsem si počínal jako velký pomatenec.“ 9 Hospodin promluvil ke Gádovi, Davidovu vidoucímu: 10 „Jdi a promluv k Davidovi: Toto praví Hospodin: Chystám na tebe trojí. Jedno z toho si vyber a já tak s tebou naložím.“ 11 Gád přišel k Davidovi a řekl mu: „Toto praví Hospodin: Zvol si: 12 Tři roky hladu, nebo tři měsíce být ničen protivníky a stíhán mečem nepřátel, anebo po tři dny Hospodinův meč, totiž mor v zemi, a Hospodinův anděl bude šířit zkázu po celém izraelském území. Nuže tedy, co mám vyřídit tomu, který mě poslal?“ 13 David Gádovi odvětil: „Je mi velmi úzko. Nechť prosím upadnu do rukou Hospodinu, neboť jeho slitování je přenesmírné, jen ať nepadnu do rukou lidských.“ 14 Hospodin tedy dopustil na Izraele mor. I padlo z Izraele sedmdesát tisíc mužů. 15 Bůh vyslal k Jeruzalému anděla, aby v něm šířil zkázu. Ale když šířil zkázu, Hospodin shlédl a pojala ho lítost nad tím zlem. Vždyť nemohu přinést Hospodinu, co je tvé, nemohu obětovat zápalnou oběť darovanou.“ 25 David tedy dal Ornánovi za to místo obnos šesti set šekelů zlata. 26 I vybudoval tam David Hospodinu oltář, obětoval zápalné a pokojné oběti a vzýval Hospodina. Ten mu odpověděl ohněm seslaným z nebe na oltář pro zápalné oběti. 27 Hospodin pak poručil andělu, aby schoval meč do pochvy. 28 V té době, kdy David zjistil, že jej Hospodin na humně Ornána Jebúsejského vyslyšel, začal tam obětovat. 29 Ale Hospodinův příbytek, který zhotovil Mojžíš na poušti, i oltář pro zápalné oběti byly v té době na posvátném návrší v Gibeónu. 30 Tam David nemohl chodit, aby se dotazoval Hospodina, neboť byl mečem Hospodinova anděla přestrašen.

Hospodine, Bože můj, ať tvá ruka dolehne na mě a na mou rodinu! Jen ať ta rána nepadá na tvůj lid!“ 18 Hospodinův anděl promluvil ke Gádovi: „Řekni Davidovi, ať jde a postaví Hospodinu oltář na mlatu Aravny Jebusejského.“ 19 David poslechl, co mu Gád v Hospodinově jménu vyřídil, a šel. 20 Aravna, který zatím mlátil pšenici, se ohlédl a spatřil anděla. Jeho čtyři synové, kteří tam byli s ním, se schovali. 21 Právě tehdy k Aravnovi přicházel David. Když Aravna vzhlédl a uviděl ho, vyšel z mlatu a poklonil se Davidovi až k zemi. 22 „Přenech mi ten mlat,“ řekl David Aravnovi. „Postavím na něm oltář Hospodinu, aby se ta rána mezi lidem zastavila. Vzýval Hospodina a on mu odpověděl – na zápalný oltář padl oheň z nebe. 27 Hospodin pak řekl andělu, ať vrátí svůj meč do pochvy. 28 Když David tenkrát viděl, že ho Hospodin na mlatu Aravny Jebusejského vyslyšel, začal tam obětovat. 29 (Hospodinův příbytek, který zhotovil Mojžíš na poušti, stával v té době i se zápalným oltářem na výšině v Gibeonu. 30 David tam ale nebyl s to chodit hledat Boha, protože ho děsil meč Hospodinova anděla.)

Ich möchte auf ihm einen Altar für den HERRN errichten. Um den vollen Kaufpreis sollst du ihn mir geben, damit die Plage im Volk aufhört. (Gn 23,9) 23 Arauna antwortete David: Du magst ihn nehmen; mein Herr und König tue, was er für gut findet. Ich gebe dir die Rinder für die Brandopfer, die Dreschschlitten als Brennholz und den Weizen zum Speiseopfer; ich will dir alles geben. (1Kr 19,21) 24 Doch König David sagte zu Arauna: Nein, ich will dir den Platz zum vollen Preis abkaufen. Ich will nicht dein Eigentum wegnehmen und dem HERRN unbezahlte Brandopfer darbringen. 25 So gab David dem Arauna für den Platz sechshundert abgewogene Goldschekel. (Gn 23,16) 26 Er baute dort einen Altar für den HERRN, brachte Brand- und Heilsopfer dar und rief den HERRN an. Dieser antwortete ihm durch Feuer, das vom Himmel auf den Altar des Brandopfers niederfiel. So Joab departed and went throughout all Israel and came back to Jerusalem. 5 And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to David. In all Israel there were 1,100,000 men who drew the sword, and in Judah 470,000 who drew the sword. David Builds an Altar

18 Now the angel of the Lord had commanded Gad to say to David that David should go up and raise an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite. (2Pa 3,1) 19 So David went up at Gad’s word, which he had spoken in the name of the Lord. 20 Now Ornan was threshing wheat. He turned and saw the angel, and his four sons who were with him hid themselves. 21 As David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David and went out from the threshing floor and paid homage to David with his face to the ground. 22 And David said to Ornan, “Give me the site of the threshing floor that I may build on it an altar to the Lord—give it to me at its full price—that the plague may be averted from the people.” 23 Then Ornan said to David, “Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems good to him. See, I give the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for the wood and the wheat for a grain offering; I give it all.” 24 But King David said to Ornan, “No, but I will buy them for the full price. I will not take for the Lord what is yours, nor offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” 25 So David paid Ornan 600 shekels^[1] of gold by weight for the site. (2S 24,24) 26 And David built there an altar to the Lord and presented burnt offerings and peace offerings and called on the Lord, and the Lord^[2] answered him with fire from heaven upon the altar of burnt offering. (Lv 9,24) 27 Then the Lord commanded the angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath. 28 At that time, when David saw that the Lord had answered him at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite, he sacrificed there. 29 For the tabernacle of the Lord, which Moses had made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt offering were at that time in the high place at Gibeon, (1Kr 3,4; 1Pa 16,39; 2Pa 1,3) 30 but David could not go before it to inquire of God, for he was afraid of the sword of the angel of the Lord.

1 And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. 2 And David said to Joab and to the rulers of the people, Go, number Israel from Beersheba even to Dan; and bring the number of them to me, that I may know it . 3 And Joab answered, The LORD make his people an hundred times so many more as they be : but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord' servants? why then doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of trespass to Israel? 4 Nevertheless the king' word prevailed against Joab. Now therefore advise thyself what word I shall bring again to him that sent me. 13 And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall now into the hand of the LORD; for very great are his mercies: but let me not fall into the hand of man. 14 So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. 15 And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was destroying, the LORD beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed, It is enough, stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD stood by the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. 17 And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father' house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued. 18 Then the angel of the LORD commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and set up an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite. 19 And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of the LORD. 20 And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. 21 And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshingfloor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. 22 Then David said to Ornan, Grant me the place of this threshingfloor, that I may build an altar therein unto the LORD: thou shalt grant it me for the full price: that the plague may be stayed from the people. 23 And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give thee the oxen also for burnt offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meat offering; I give it all. 24 And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for the LORD, nor offer burnt offerings without cost. 25 So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. 26 And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. 27 And the LORD commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof. 28 At that time when David saw that the LORD had answered him in the threshingfloor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. 29 For the tabernacle of the LORD, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of the burnt offering, were at that season in the high place at Gibeon. 30 But David could not go before it to enquire of God: for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of the LORD.
