1Voici le message que Jérémie reçut pour tous les Judéens installés en Egypte et demeurant à Migdol, à Daphné, à Memphis et dans la région de Patros[1]: (Ex 14:2)2Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes, Dieu d’Israël: Vous avez vu tous les malheurs que j’ai fait venir sur Jérusalem et sur toutes les villes de Juda; elles sont aujourd’hui en ruine et personne n’y habite plus.3Tout cela est arrivé à cause du mal que leurs habitants ont commis. Ils m’ont irrité en allant offrir des parfums et rendre un culte à d’autres dieux qu’ils n’avaient pas connus, ni eux, ni vous, ni vos ancêtres.4Pourtant, sans me lasser, je vous ai envoyé tous mes serviteurs les prophètes pour vous dire: « Ne commettez donc pas ces actes abominables qui me sont en horreur. »5Mais ils n’ont pas écouté, ils n’ont pas prêté attention mais ont refusé d’abandonner leurs actes mauvais et ils ont continué à offrir des parfums à d’autres dieux.6Aussi mon indignation et ma colère ont éclaté contre eux et elles ont consumé les villes de Juda et les rues de Jérusalem, qui ont été dévastées et sont devenues des tas de ruines, comme c’est actuellement le cas.7Et maintenant, voici ce que déclare l’Eternel, le Dieu des armées célestes, Dieu d’Israël: Pourquoi vous faites-vous tant de mal à vous-mêmes? Pourquoi voulez-vous faire disparaître du peuple de Juda les hommes et les femmes, les enfants et les nourrissons au point qu’il ne vous reste aucun survivant?8Vous m’irritez par tous vos actes, en offrant des parfums à d’autres dieux en Egypte où vous avez immigré. Vous vous attirez ainsi la destruction, de même que la malédiction et l’opprobre de la part de tous les autres peuples de la terre.9Avez-vous oublié les méfaits commis par vos ancêtres et ceux des rois de Juda, et les méfaits de leurs femmes ainsi que vos propres méfaits et ceux de vos femmes, ces méfaits que vous avez commis au pays de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem?10Jusqu’à ce jour, ils n’ont pas éprouvé de remords; ils n’ont manifesté aucune crainte, ils n’ont pas observé ma Loi et mes commandements que je vous avais données, à vous comme à vos ancêtres.11C’est pourquoi voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes, Dieu d’Israël: Je vais me retourner contre vous pour votre malheur; et pour exterminer tout ce peuple de Juda.12Je prendrai ce qui reste des Judéens qui se sont obstinés à venir immigrer ici, et ils seront tous détruits en Egypte: ils tomberont et périront tous, par l’épée ou par la famine. Oui, le peuple au grand complet mourra par l’épée ou par la famine. La dévastation fondra sur lui et il sera en butte à la malédiction, aux imprécations et à l’opprobre.13J’interviendrai contre ceux qui sont installés en Egypte, comme je suis intervenu contre Jérusalem par l’épée, par la famine et par la peste.14Il n’y aura ni rescapé ni survivant parmi tous ceux qui restent de Juda et qui sont venus s’installer en Egypte pour retourner ensuite au pays de Juda où ils désirent tellement retourner pour y demeurer. Mais ils n’y retourneront pas, sinon quelques rescapés.
L’Eternel ou la Reine du ciel
15Alors tous les hommes qui savaient que leurs femmes offraient des parfums à des dieux étrangers, toutes les femmes réunies là en grand nombre, et tous les gens du peuple qui habitaient en Egypte, à Patros, répondirent ainsi à Jérémie:16Nous refusons d’écouter ce que tu nous dis au nom de l’Eternel.17Nous ferons plutôt selon ce que nous avons décidé: nous offrirons des parfums à la Reine du ciel[2] et nous répandrons des libations en son honneur, comme nous l’avons fait, nous et nos ancêtres, nos rois et nos dirigeants, dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem. Alors, nous mangions à notre faim et nous étions heureux, nous ne connaissions pas le malheur. (Jr 7:18)18Mais depuis que nous avons cessé d’offrir des parfums à la Reine du ciel et de répandre des libations en son honneur, nous avons manqué de tout et nous périssons par l’épée et par la famine.19– D’ailleurs, ajoutèrent les femmes, quand nous offrons des parfums à la Reine du ciel et quand nous répandons des libations en son honneur, est-ce à l’insu de notre mari[3] que nous lui faisons des gâteaux qui la représentent et que nous répandons des libations pour elle? (Nb 10:15; Nb 30:4)20Alors Jérémie parla à toute la foule réunie, aux hommes, aux femmes et à tout le peuple qui lui avaient ainsi répondu. Il leur dit:21L’Eternel a justement tenu compte de ces parfums que vous avez fait brûler dans les villes de Juda et dans les rues de Jérusalem, vous et vos ancêtres, vos rois et vos dirigeants, et les gens du peuple; c’est bien là ce qu’il a pris à cœur.22L’Eternel n’a pas pu supporter plus longtemps vos agissements mauvais et les actes abominables que vous avez commis. Voilà pourquoi votre pays est devenu un champ de ruines, une terre dévastée et maudite où personne n’habite plus, comme c’est actuellement le cas.23C’est parce que vous avez offert ces parfums et que vous vous êtes rendus coupables envers l’Eternel, parce que vous n’avez pas écouté l’Eternel et que vous n’avez pas vécu dans l’obéissance à sa Loi, à ses commandements et ses prescriptions, que ce malheur vous a atteints, comme c’est actuellement le cas.24Puis Jérémie dit à tout le peuple, et notamment à toutes les femmes: Vous tous, gens de Juda, qui vivez en Egypte, écoutez ce que dit l’Eternel:25Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur des armées célestes, Dieu d’Israël: Vous, les femmes[4], vous l’avez dit vous-mêmes: « Nous sommes décidées à accomplir les vœux que nous avons faits, c’est-à-dire que nous voulons offrir des parfums à la Reine du ciel et répandre des libations en son honneur. » Et vous vous êtes exécutées. Eh bien, accomplissez donc vos vœux! Oui, tenez vos engagements jusqu’au bout!26Et par conséquent, écoutez ce que dit l’Eternel, vous tous, Judéens qui êtes installés en Egypte: Moi, j’ai juré par mon grand nom, déclare l’Eternel, de ne plus laisser un Judéen prononcer mon nom dans toute l’Egypte, en disant: « Aussi vrai que le Seigneur, l’Eternel est vivant …! »27Je vais veiller sur eux pour leur malheur et non pour leur bien; tous les Judéens qui sont en Egypte périront par l’épée ou par la famine jusqu’à leur extermination.28Seul un petit nombre d’entre eux échapperont à l’épée et retourneront d’Egypte en Juda. Alors tous ceux qui resteront des Judéens venus s’installer en Egypte sauront quelle parole se sera réalisée: la mienne ou la leur.29Et voici un signe – l’Eternel le déclare – pour vous prouver que je vais intervenir contre vous en ce lieu-ci et pour que vous sachiez que mes paroles s’accompliront pour votre malheur.30Voici ce que déclare l’Eternel: Je vais livrer le pharaon Hophra, roi d’Egypte, à ses ennemis et à ceux qui en veulent à sa vie, tout comme j’ai livré Sédécias[5], roi de Juda, à son ennemi Nabuchodonosor, roi de Babylone, qui en voulait à sa vie. Behold, this day they are a desolation, and no one dwells in them, (Jr 44:6)3because of the evil that they committed, provoking me to anger, in that they went to make offerings and serve other gods that they knew not, neither they, nor you, nor your fathers. (Dt 6:14; Jr 1:16; Jr 7:18; Jr 19:4; Jr 44:8)4Yet I persistently sent to you all my servants the prophets, saying, ‘Oh, do not do this abomination that I hate!’ (2Ch 36:15)5But they did not listen or incline their ear, to turn from their evil and make no offerings to other gods. (Jr 34:14)6Therefore my wrath and my anger were poured out and kindled in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became a waste and a desolation, as at this day. (Jr 7:20; Jr 7:34; Jr 9:11)7And now thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel: Why do you commit this great evil against yourselves, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and child, from the midst of Judah, leaving you no remnant? (Nb 16:38; Pr 20:2; Jr 38:23; La 2:11; Ha 2:10)8Why do you provoke me to anger with the works of your hands, making offerings to other gods in the land of Egypt where you have come to live, so that you may be cut off and become a curse and a taunt among all the nations of the earth? (Jr 18:16; Jr 42:18; Jr 44:3)9Have you forgotten the evil of your fathers, the evil of the kings of Judah, the evil of their[1] wives, your own evil, and the evil of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem? (1R 11:1; 1R 11:8; 1R 15:13; 2R 11:1; Jr 15:4; Jr 44:15; Jr 44:25)10They have not humbled themselves even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in my law and my statutes that I set before you and before your fathers. (Pr 28:14)11“Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will set my face against you for harm, to cut off all Judah. (Jr 21:10)12I will take the remnant of Judah who have set their faces to come to the land of Egypt to live, and they shall all be consumed. In the land of Egypt they shall fall; by the sword and by famine they shall be consumed. From the least to the greatest, they shall die by the sword and by famine, and they shall become an oath, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. (Jr 6:13; Jr 18:16; Jr 42:15; Jr 42:16; Jr 44:8)13I will punish those who dwell in the land of Egypt, as I have punished Jerusalem, with the sword, with famine, and with pestilence, (Jr 43:11)14so that none of the remnant of Judah who have come to live in the land of Egypt shall escape or survive or return to the land of Judah, to which they desire to return to dwell there. For they shall not return, except some fugitives.” (Jr 22:27; Jr 42:17; Jr 44:28)15Then all the men who knew that their wives had made offerings to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great assembly, all the people who lived in Pathros in the land of Egypt, answered Jeremiah: (Jr 44:1; Jr 44:9; Jr 44:25)16“As for the word that you have spoken to us in the name of the Lord, we will not listen to you. (Jr 6:16; Jr 42:13)17But we will do everything that we have vowed, make offerings to the queen of heaven and pour out drink offerings to her, as we did, both we and our fathers, our kings and our officials, in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and prospered, and saw no disaster. (Jg 11:36; 1R 11:33; 2R 21:3; Jr 7:18; Jr 19:13)18But since we left off making offerings to the queen of heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been consumed by the sword and by famine.” (Jr 44:17; La 3:22)19And the women said,[2] “When we made offerings to the queen of heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ approval that we made cakes for her bearing her image and poured out drink offerings to her?” (Nb 30:6; Jr 7:18)20Then Jeremiah said to all the people, men and women, all the people who had given him this answer: (Jr 43:6)21“As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, did not the Lord remember them? Did it not come into his mind? (Jr 44:17; Ez 8:10; Ez 21:24)22The Lord could no longer bear your evil deeds and the abominations that you committed. Therefore your land has become a desolation and a waste and a curse, without inhabitant, as it is this day. (Jr 4:7; Jr 5:9; Jr 5:29; Jr 7:34; Jr 18:16; Ez 8:6)23It is because you made offerings and because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey the voice of the Lord or walk in his law and in his statutes and in his testimonies that this disaster has happened to you, as at this day.” (Dt 31:29; Jr 40:3)24Jeremiah said to all the people and all the women, “Hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who are in the land of Egypt. (Jr 43:5; Jr 44:15)25Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: You and your wives have declared with your mouths, and have fulfilled it with your hands, saying, ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have made, to make offerings to the queen of heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Then confirm your vows and perform your vows! (Jr 44:16; Jr 44:17)26Therefore hear the word of the Lord, all you of Judah who dwell in the land of Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by my great name, says the Lord, that my name shall no more be invoked by the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, ‘As the Lord God lives.’ (Jr 4:2; Jr 22:5; Jr 44:24; Ez 20:39)27Behold, I am watching over them for disaster and not for good. All the men of Judah who are in the land of Egypt shall be consumed by the sword and by famine, until there is an end of them. (Jr 31:28; Jr 42:16)28And those who escape the sword shall return from the land of Egypt to the land of Judah, few in number; and all the remnant of Judah, who came to the land of Egypt to live, shall know whose word will stand, mine or theirs. (Is 27:13; Jr 44:14; Jr 44:17; Jr 44:25; Ez 6:8)29This shall be the sign to you, declares the Lord, that I will punish you in this place, in order that you may know that my words will surely stand against you for harm: (Pr 19:21)30Thus says the Lord, Behold, I will give Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hand of his enemies and into the hand of those who seek his life, as I gave Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, who was his enemy and sought his life.” (Jr 39:5; Jr 46:17; Jr 46:26; Ez 29:2; Ez 30:21)

So rottet ihr euch selbst aus und werdet zum Fluch und Gespött bei allen Völkern der Erde.9Habt ihr denn die Bosheiten eurer Väter und die Bosheiten der Könige von Juda und die Bosheiten seiner Frauen und eure Bosheiten und die Bosheiten eurer Frauen vergessen, die sie im Land Juda und in den Straßen Jerusalems getan haben? (Jr 7:17)10Sie sind nicht zerknirscht bis zum heutigen Tag, fürchten sich nicht und leben nicht nach meiner Weisung und nach meinen Satzungen, die ich euch und euren Vätern vorgelegt habe.11Darum - so spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Siehe, ich richte mein Angesicht gegen euch zu eurem Unheil, um ganz Juda auszurotten. (Jr 21:10; Jr 39:16; Jr 44:27)12Ich raffe den Rest Judas hinweg, der darauf bestand, ins Land Ägypten zu ziehen, um sich dort niederzulassen. Sie alle werden im Land Ägypten umkommen; sie werden fallen durch Schwert und Hunger; Klein und Groß wird umkommen. Durch Schwert und Hunger werden sie sterben und zum Fluch und zu einem Bild des Entsetzens werden, zur Verwünschung und zur Schmach. (Jr 42:18)13Wie ich Jerusalem heimgesucht habe, so suche ich die im Land Ägypten Angesiedelten heim mit Schwert, Hunger und Pest.14Vom Rest Judas, der ausgezogen ist, um sich dort im Land Ägypten niederzulassen, wird niemand entrinnen oder entkommen, um ins Land Juda zurückzukehren, obwohl sie sich danach sehnen, zurückzukehren und dort wieder zu wohnen. Sie werden nicht zurückkehren, nur wenige werden entrinnen. (Jr 42:17)15Da antworteten alle Männer, die wussten, dass ihre Frauen anderen Göttern Räucheropfer darbrachten, und alle Frauen, die dabeistanden, eine große Schar, sowie alle, die im Land Ägypten und in Patros wohnten, dem Jeremia:16Was das Wort betrifft, das du im Namen des HERRN zu uns gesprochen hast, so hören wir nicht auf dich.17Vielmehr werden wir jedes Wort ausführen, das aus unserem Mund hervorgegangen ist: Wir werden der Himmelskönigin Räucheropfer darbringen und ihr werden wir Trankopfer ausgießen, wie wir, unsere Väter, unsere Könige und unsere Großen in den Städten Judas und in den Straßen Jerusalems es getan haben. Damals hatten wir Brot genug; es ging uns gut und wir haben kein Unheil gesehen. (Jr 7:18)18Seit wir aber aufgehört haben, der Himmelskönigin Räucheropfer darzubringen und ihr Trankopfer auszugießen, fehlt es uns an allem und wir kommen durch Schwert und Hunger um.19Wenn wir der Himmelskönigin Räucheropfer darbringen und ihr Trankopfer ausgießen: Geschieht es denn ohne unsere Männer, dass wir für sie Opferkuchen mit ihrem Bild zubereiten und ihr Trankopfer ausgießen?20Jeremia entgegnete dem ganzen Volk, den Männern, den Frauen und allen, die ihm so geantwortet hatten:21Hat nicht das Räuchern, das ihr in den Städten Judas und auf den Straßen Jerusalems als Räucheropfer darbrachtet, ihr und eure Väter, eure Könige und eure Großen und die Bürger des Landes - war es nicht gerade dies, woran der HERR gedacht hat und das in seinem Herzen aufgestiegen ist?22Schließlich konnte es der HERR nicht mehr aushalten wegen der Bosheit eurer Taten und wegen der Gräuel, die ihr verübt habt. Deshalb wurde euer Land zur Öde, zum Entsetzen und zum Fluch, unbewohnt, wie es heute noch ist. (Jr 25:9; Jr 49:13)23Weil ihr Räucheropfer dargebracht und gegen den HERRN gesündigt habt, weil ihr auf die Stimme des HERRN nicht gehört und nicht nach seiner Weisung, seinen Satzungen und Bundeszeugnissen gelebt habt, darum hat euch dieses Unheil getroffen, wie es heute ist.24Zum ganzen Volk und zu allen Frauen sagte Jeremia: Hört das Wort des HERRN, ganz Juda, das im Land Ägypten weilt!25So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Was ihr und eure Frauen mit dem Mund gelobt, das führt ihr mit den Händen aus. Ihr sagt: Unsere versprochenen Gelübde werden wir gewissenhaft erfüllen und der Himmelskönigin Räucheropfer darbringen und ihr Trankopfer ausgießen. Haltet nur eure Gelübde genau, ja, eure Gelübde erfüllt gewissenhaft!26Darum höre das Wort des HERRN, ganz Juda, das im Land Ägypten wohnt: Siehe, ich schwöre bei meinem großen Namen, spricht der HERR: Nie mehr soll mein Name vom Mund irgendeines Judäers genannt werden; keiner soll mehr im ganzen Land Ägypten sagen: So wahr GOTT, der Herr, lebt!27Siehe, ich wache über sie - zum Unheil, nicht zum Heil. Alle Judäer im Land Ägypten werden durch Schwert und Hunger umkommen, bis sie vernichtet sind. (Jr 1:11; Jr 43:11)28Nur wenige werden dem Schwert entrinnen und aus dem Land Ägypten ins Land Juda zurückkehren, wenige an Zahl und der ganze Rest von Juda, der nach dem Land Ägypten gezogen ist, um sich dort niederzulassen, werden erkennen, wessen Wort sich erfüllt, das meine oder das ihre.29Dies aber soll euch das Zeichen sein - Spruch des HERRN -, dass ich euch heimsuche an diesem Ort, damit ihr erkennt, dass meine Worte über euch bestimmt in Erfüllung gehen zu eurem Unheil:30So spricht der HERR: Siehe, ich liefere den Pharao Hofra, den König von Ägypten, in die Hand seiner Feinde und in die Hand derer aus, die nach seinem Leben trachten, wie ich Zidkija, den König von Juda, in die Hand Nebukadnezzars ausgeliefert habe, des Königs von Babel, seines Feindes, der nach seinem Leben trachtete.
