1L’Eternel m’adressa la parole et me dit:2Fils d’homme, porte un jugement sur la ville pleine de meurtres! N’hésite pas à le faire et dénonce tous ses actes abominables.3Dis-leur: « Voici ce que déclare le Seigneur, l’Eternel: Voilà une ville qui répand le sang au milieu d’elle pour faire venir le jour du jugement, et qui fabrique des idoles pour se rendre impure.4Tu t’es rendue coupable par le sang que tu as répandu et tu t’es rendue impure par les idoles que tu as fabriquées. Tu as ainsi précipité les jours de ton jugement et la fin de tes années arrive. C’est pourquoi je te livre aux outrages des autres peuples et aux railleries de tous les pays.5Ville impure, pleine de troubles, ceux qui sont près et ceux qui sont loin se moqueront de toi.6Voici: chez toi, tous les dirigeants d’Israël profitent de leur pouvoir[1] pour commettre des meurtres. (1R 21:8; 2R 21:16; 2R 24:4; 2Ch 24:21)7Chez toi, on méprise père et mère. Chez toi, on maltraite l’étranger, on opprime l’orphelin et la veuve[2]. (Ex 20:12; Ex 22:20)8On méprise ce qui est saint, on profane les jours de sabbat.9Chez toi, il y a des gens qui calomnient leur prochain pour l’assassiner. Chez toi, les gens prennent part aux repas de sacrifices sur les montagnes. On fait des choses abominables au milieu de toi.10Chez toi, il y a des gens qui ont des relations sexuelles avec la femme de leur père; chez toi, il y en a qui abusent d’une femme pendant son indisposition[3]. (Ex 20:14; Lv 18:7)11L’un commet des abominations avec la femme de son prochain, l’autre, abominable, déshonore sa belle-fille, un troisième viole sa sœur, fille de son père, chez toi.12Chez toi, on se laisse corrompre par des présents pour répandre le sang. Tu prêtes à un taux usuraire et tu exiges de l’intérêt. Tu extorques le bien de ton prochain par la violence, et moi, tu m’oublies, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare.13Mais voici: je vais frapper dans mes mains à cause de tes profits malhonnêtes et du sang répandu au milieu de toi.14Ton courage tiendra-t-il bon, tes mains seront-elles fermes au jour où j’interviendrai contre toi? Moi, l’Eternel, j’ai parlé et j’agirai.15Je te disperserai parmi des peuples étrangers et te disséminerai à travers divers pays, et je ferai disparaître totalement la souillure du milieu de toi.16Tu t’es toi-même profanée aux yeux des autres peuples, mais tu reconnaîtras que je suis l’Eternel. »
Israël : une scorie sans valeur
17L’Eternel m’adressa la parole en ces termes:18Fils d’homme, les gens du peuple d’Israël sont devenus pour moi comme des scories; tous, ils ne sont que le rebut du cuivre, de l’étain, du fer et du plomb jeté dans un creuset. Oui, ils sont devenus des scories d’argent.19C’est pourquoi le Seigneur, l’Eternel, déclare ceci: « Parce que vous êtes tous devenus semblables à des scories, je vais vous rassembler au milieu de Jérusalem,20comme on entasse de l’argent, du cuivre, du fer, du plomb et de l’étain dans un creuset sous lequel on attise le feu pour les faire fondre, ainsi je vous entasserai dans ma colère et ma fureur, je vous jetterai là dans le creuset et je vous fondrai.21Je vous rassemblerai et je soufflerai contre vous le feu de mon indignation et je vous ferai fondre au milieu de Jérusalem.22Vous serez fondus au milieu d’elle comme de l’argent dans un creuset, et vous reconnaîtrez que moi, l’Eternel, j’ai répandu sur vous ma fureur. »
Les responsables de la déchéance
23L’Eternel m’adressa encore la parole et me dit:24Fils d’homme, dis à Jérusalem: « Tu es une terre qui n’a pas été purifiée[4], un pays qui n’a pas été arrosé par la pluie au jour de ma colère.25Tes prophètes se sont conjurés au milieu de toi: comme un lion rugissant qui déchire sa proie, ils dévorent les gens, ils s’emparent des richesses et des objets précieux et multiplient les veuves au milieu de toi.26Tes prêtres violent ma Loi, ils profanent ce qui est saint, ils ne font aucune différence entre saint et profane, ils n’enseignent pas à discerner entre ce qui est impur et ce qui est pur. Ils ignorent volontairement mes jours de sabbat, de sorte que je suis profané parmi eux.27Tes chefs sont au milieu de toi comme des loups qui déchirent leur proie, et répandent le sang, en faisant périr les gens pour en tirer profit.28Et tes prophètes enduisent tous ces crimes de crépi[5]. Ils ont des visions trompeuses et vous débitent de fausses divinations. Ils disent: “Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l’Eternel”, alors que l’Eternel n’a pas parlé. (Ez 13:10)29Le peuple du pays commet des actes de violence et des vols, il exploite les pauvres et les indigents; on opprime l’étranger au mépris de ses droits.30J’ai cherché parmi eux quelqu’un qui construise un rempart et qui se tienne debout sur la brèche, devant moi, en faveur du pays, afin d’éviter sa destruction, mais je n’ai trouvé personne.31C’est pourquoi je répandrai ma fureur sur eux, je les consumerai dans le feu de ma colère. Je leur ferai payer leur conduite, le Seigneur, l’Eternel, le déclare. »

(2R 21:2; 2R 24:3; Ps 106:39; Is 1:21; Ez 33:25; Mi 3:10)4Durch dein Blut, das du vergossen hast, bist du schuldig geworden; und durch deine Götzen, die du gemacht, hast du dich unrein gemacht; und du hast deine ⟨Gerichts⟩tage herbeigeführt und bist zu deinen Jahren gekommen[2]. Darum habe ich dich zum Hohn für die Nationen gemacht und zum Gespött für alle Länder. (Ez 23:32; Da 9:16)5Die ⟨dir⟩ nahe und die von dir entfernt ⟨wohnen⟩, verspotten dich, deren Ruf befleckt, deren Bestürzung gewaltig ist. – (Ps 79:4)6Siehe, die Fürsten Israels waren in dir – jeder ⟨pochte⟩ auf seine Macht –, um Blut zu vergießen. (Jr 22:17; Ez 45:8; Mi 3:1; So 3:3)7Vater und Mutter verachtet man in dir, dem Fremden tut man Gewalt an in deiner Mitte, Waise und Witwe unterdrückt man in dir. (Dt 27:16; Ps 94:5; Is 1:23)8Meine heiligen Dinge verachtest du, und meine Sabbate entweihst du. (Ez 20:20)9Verleumder sind in dir, um Blut zu vergießen. Und auf den Bergen isst man in dir, Schandtaten verübt man in deiner Mitte. (Lv 19:16; 1S 24:10; Ez 18:6)10Die Blöße des Vaters deckt man auf in dir, die in ihrer Absonderung[3] Unreine missbraucht man in dir. (Lv 18:6)11Der eine verübt Gräuel mit der Frau seines Nächsten, der andere macht seine Schwiegertochter durch Schandtat unrein, und ein anderer missbraucht in dir seine Schwester, die Tochter seines Vaters. (Lv 18:6; Jr 5:7; Ez 33:26)12Bestechungsgeschenke nimmt man in dir, um Blut zu vergießen; Zins und Aufschlag nimmst du und übervorteilst deinen Nächsten mit Gewalt. Mich aber vergisst du, spricht der Herr, HERR[4]. (Lv 25:37; Dt 27:25; Dt 32:18; Jr 6:13; Jr 9:1; Ez 23:35; Am 8:4)13Und siehe, ich schlage in meine Hand wegen deines unrechten Gewinns, den du gemacht hast, und über deine Blutschuld, die in deiner Mitte ist. (Ez 21:19)14Wird dein Herz festbleiben, oder werden deine Hände stark sein in den Tagen, da ich mit dir handeln werde? Ich, der HERR, habe geredet und werde handeln. (Is 28:22; Ez 6:10; Ez 17:24; Ez 23:34)15Und ich werde dich versprengen unter die Nationen und dich zerstreuen in die Länder und deine Unreinheit ganz aus dir wegschaffen. (Ez 5:10; Ez 23:27; Ez 24:11; Ez 36:19)16Und du wirst durch dich selbst entweiht werden[5] vor den Augen der Nationen; und du wirst erkennen, dass ich der HERR bin. (Ps 9:17)17Und das Wort des HERRN geschah zu mir so:18Menschensohn, das Haus Israel ist für mich zu Schlacken geworden; sie alle sind Kupfer und Zinn und Eisen und Blei im Schmelzofen; Silberschlacken sind sie geworden[6]. (Ps 119:119; Is 1:22; Jr 6:28)19Darum, so spricht der Herr, HERR: Weil ihr alle zu Schlacken geworden seid, darum, siehe, werde ich euch in Jerusalem zusammentun.20⟨Wie⟩ man Silber und Kupfer und Eisen und Blei und Zinn in einen Schmelzofen zusammentut, um Feuer darunter[7] anzublasen, um es zu schmelzen, so werde ich euch in meinem Zorn und in meinem Grimm zusammentun und euch hineinlegen und schmelzen.21Und ich werde euch sammeln und das Feuer meines Grimms gegen euch anblasen, dass ihr darin geschmolzen werdet. (Dt 32:22; Ez 21:36)22Wie Silber im Ofen geschmolzen wird, so werdet ihr mitten in ihm[8] geschmolzen werden. Und ihr werdet erkennen, dass ich, der HERR, meinen Grimm über euch ausgegossen habe. (Ez 7:9)23Und das Wort des HERRN geschah zu mir so:24Menschensohn, sprich zu ihm: Du bist ein Land, das nicht benetzt[9], nicht beregnet ist am Tag des Zorns,25[10] dessen Obere in seiner Mitte sind wie ein brüllender Löwe[11], der Beute reißt. Seelen fressen sie, Reichtum und Kostbarkeiten nehmen sie, seine Witwen lassen sie zahlreich werden in seiner Mitte. (La 4:13)26Seine Priester tun meinem Gesetz Gewalt an und entweihen meine heiligen Dinge; zwischen heilig und nicht heilig unterscheiden sie nicht, und ⟨den Unterschied⟩ zwischen unrein und rein lassen sie nicht erkennen; und vor meinen Sabbaten verhüllen sie ihre Augen. So werde ich in ihrer Mitte entweiht. (Lv 10:10; Ez 23:38; Ez 44:23; Ez 44:24; Ml 1:6; Ml 2:7)27Seine Obersten sind in seiner Mitte wie Wölfe, die Beute reißen, um Blut zu vergießen, Seelen zugrunde zu richten, damit sie unrechten Gewinn erlangen. (2Ch 36:14; Is 1:23; La 4:13; Ez 13:19; Mi 3:11; So 3:3)28Und seine Propheten streichen ihnen Tünche ⟨darüber⟩, indem sie Nichtiges schauen und ihnen Lügen wahrsagen und sprechen: So spricht der Herr, HERR! Und doch hat der HERR nicht geredet. (Is 28:15; Ez 13:6)29Das Volk des Landes verübt Erpressung[12] und begeht[13] Raub; und den Elenden und Armen unterdrücken sie, und am Fremden handeln sie gegen ⟨jedes⟩ Recht[14]. (Ex 23:9; Lv 19:13; Mi 6:12)30Und ich suchte einen Mann unter ihnen, der die Mauer zumauerte und vor mir für das Land in den Riss[15] trat, damit ich es nicht verheerte; aber ich fand keinen. (2R 14:26; Is 59:16; Ez 13:5)31So gieße ich meinen Zorn über sie aus, im Feuer meines Grimms vernichte ich sie, ihren Weg bringe ich auf ihren Kopf, spricht der Herr, HERR[16]. 1A message from the LORD came to me. The LORD said,2‘Son of man, are you going to judge Jerusalem? Will you judge this city that has so many murderers in it? Then tell its people they have done many evil things. I hate those things.3Tell them, “The LORD and King says, ‘Your city brings death on itself. You spill blood inside its walls. You make yourselves “unclean” by making statues of gods.4You are guilty of spilling blood. Your statues have made you “unclean”. You have brought your days to a close. The end of your years has come. So the nations will make fun of you. All the countries will laugh at you.5Those who are near you will tell jokes about you. So will those who are far away. Trouble fills the streets of your sinful city.6‘ “ ‘The princes of Israel are in your city. All of them use their power to spill blood.7They have made fun of fathers and mothers alike. They have crushed outsiders. They have treated badly the children whose fathers have died. They have done the same thing to widows.8You have looked down on the holy things that were set apart to me. You have misused my Sabbath days.9You have spread lies about others so you can spill someone’s blood. You eat at the mountain temples. You commit impure acts.10You bring shame on your fathers by having sex with their wives. You have sex with women during their monthly period. That is when they are “unclean”.11One of you has sex with another man’s wife. I hate that sin. Another brings shame on his daughter-in-law by having sex with her. Still another has sex with his sister, even though she is his own father’s daughter.12You accept money from people who want special favours. You do this to spill someone’s blood. You charge interest to poor people when you lend them money. You make money from them. You get rich by cheating your neighbours. And you have forgotten me,’ announces the LORD and King.13‘ “ ‘I will clap my hands because I am so angry. You got rich by cheating others. You spilled blood inside the walls of your city.14Will you be brave on the day I deal with you? Will you be strong at that time? I have spoken. I will do this. I am the LORD.15I will scatter you among the nations. I will send you to other countries. I will put an end to your “uncleanness”.16You will be “unclean” in the sight of the nations. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’ ” ’17A message from the LORD came to me. The LORD said,18‘Son of man, the people of Israel have become like scum to me. All of them are like the copper, tin, iron and lead left inside a furnace. They are only the scum that is removed from silver.’19So the LORD and King says, ‘People of Israel, all of you have become like scum. So I will gather you together in Jerusalem.20People put silver, copper, iron, lead and tin into a furnace. They melt it with a blazing fire. In the same way, I will gather you. I will pour out my burning anger on you. I will put you inside the city and melt you.21I will gather you together. My burning anger will blaze out at you. And you will be melted inside Jerusalem.22Silver is melted in a furnace. And you will be melted inside the city. Then you will know that I have poured out my burning anger on you. I am the LORD.’23Another message from the LORD came to me. The LORD said,24‘Son of man, speak to the land. Tell it, “You have not been washed clean with rain. That’s because I am angry with you.”25Ezekiel, the princes of the land are like a roaring lion that tears its food apart. They eat people up. They take treasures and other valuable things. They cause many women in the land to become widows.26Its priests break my law. They treat things set apart to me as if they were not holy. They treat holy and common things as if they were the same. They teach that there is no difference between things that are “clean” and things that are not. They refuse to keep my Sabbath days. So they treat me as if I were not holy.27The officials in the land are like wolves that tear their food apart. They spill blood and kill people to get rich.28The prophets cover up these acts for them. The visions of these prophets are false. They use magic to try to find out what is going to happen. But their magic tricks are lies. They say, “The LORD and King says.” But I have not spoken to them.29The people of the land get rich by cheating others. They steal. They crush those who are poor and in need. They treat outsiders badly. They refuse to be fair to them.30‘I looked for someone among them who would stand up for Jerusalem. I tried to find someone who would pray to me for the land. Then I would not have to destroy it. But I could not find anyone who would pray for it.31So I will pour out my anger on its people. I will destroy them because of my great anger against them. And anything that happens to them will be their own fault,’ announces the LORD and King.
