Matthew 16

Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah

13  When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’

14  They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’

15  ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’

16  Simon Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.’

17  Jesus replied, ‘Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.

18  And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

19  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’

20  Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

Mark 8

Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah

27  Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, ‘Who do people say I am?’

28  They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.’

29  ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘You are the Messiah.’

30  Jesus warned them not to tell anyone about him.

Luke 9

Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah

18  Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, ‘Who do the crowds say I am?’

19  They replied, ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, that one of the prophets of long ago has come back to life.’

20  ‘But what about you?’ he asked. ‘Who do you say I am?’ Peter answered, ‘God’s Messiah.’

Jesus predicts his death

21  Jesus strictly warned them not to tell this to anyone.

John 6

67  ‘You do not want to leave too, do you?’ Jesus asked the Twelve.

68  Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

69  We have come to believe and to know that you are the Holy One of God.’
