9 But avoid foolish controversies, genealogies, dissensions, and quarrels about the law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. (1Ti 1:4; 1Ti 6:4; 2Ti 2:14; 2Ti 2:16) 

New International Version

9 But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. 

New International Reader’s Version

9 But keep away from foolish disagreements. Don’t argue about family histories. Don’t make trouble. Don’t fight about what the law teaches. Don’t argue about things like that. It doesn’t do any good. It doesn’t help anyone. 

King James Version

9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
