English Standard Version

9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. (Ac 10:42; Re 1:18; Re 2:8; Re 20:12) 

New International Version

9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 

New International Reader’s Version

9 Christ died and came back to life. He did this to become the Lord of both the dead and the living. 

King James Version

9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living.
