16 the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” (Job 3:5; Ps 23:4; Isa 42:7; Am 5:8; Lu 1:79) 

New International Version

16 the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.’ (Isa 9:1; Isa 9:2)

16 The people who are now living in darkness have seen a great light. They are now living in a very dark land. But a light has shone on them.’ (Isa 9:1; Isa 9:2) 

King James Version

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.
