English Standard Version

48 And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with sour wine, and put it on a reed and gave it to him to drink. (Ru 2:14; Ps 69:21) 

New International Version

48 Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. 

New International Reader’s Version

48 Right away one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar and put it on a stick. He offered it to Jesus to drink. 

King James Version

48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
