English Standard Version

12 But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” (Mt 14:3; Mt 14:10; Mt 16:21) 

New International Version

12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognise him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

12 But I tell you, Elijah has already come. People didn’t recognise him. They have done to him everything they wanted to do. In the same way, they are going to make the Son of Man suffer.’ 

King James Version

12 But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
