2 Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples (Mt 1:17; Mt 4:12; Mt 9:14; Mt 14:3; Lu 7:18)

2 When John, who was in prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he sent his disciples

2 John the Baptist was in prison. When he heard about the actions of the Messiah, he sent his disciples to him.
