5 And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?” (Mr 7:2; Mr 7:3; Lu 11:38) 

New International Version

5 So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus, ‘Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?’ 

New International Reader’s Version

5 So the Pharisees and the teachers of the law questioned Jesus. ‘Why don’t your disciples live by what the elders teach?’ they asked. ‘Why do they eat their food with “unclean” hands?’ 

King James Version

5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
