14 King Herod heard of it, for Jesus’[1] name had become known. Some[2] said, “John the Baptist[3] has been raised from the dead. That is why these miraculous powers are at work in him.” (Mt 14:1; Mt 16:14; Mr 8:28; Lu 9:7)

14 King Herod heard about this, for Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying,[1] ‘John the Baptist has been raised from the dead, and that is why miraculous powers are at work in him.’

14 King Herod heard about this. Jesus’ name had become well known. Some were saying, ‘John the Baptist has been raised from the dead! That is why he has the power to do miracles.’

14 And king Herod heard of him; (for his name was spread abroad:) and he said, That John the Baptist was risen from the dead, and therefore mighty works do shew forth themselves in him.
