38 They came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and Jesus[1] saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly.

38 When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 

New International Reader’s Version

38 They came to the home of the synagogue leader. There Jesus saw a lot of confusion. People were crying and sobbing loudly. 

King James Version

38 And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
