39 And when the centurion, who stood facing him, saw that in this way he[1] breathed his last, he said, “Truly this man was the Son[2] of God!” (Mt 27:43; Mt 27:54; Lu 23:47; Lu 23:49) 

New International Version

39 And when the centurion, who stood there in front of Jesus, saw how he died,[1] he said, ‘Surely this man was the Son of God!’ 

New International Reader’s Version

39 A Roman commander was standing there in front of Jesus. He saw how Jesus died. Then he said, ‘This man was surely the Son of God!’ 

King James Version

39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.
