13 Now when the people of Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not utterly drive them out. (Ge 49:15; Jos 16:10) 

New International Version

13 However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they subjected the Canaanites to forced labour but did not drive them out completely. 

New International Reader’s Version

13 The Israelites grew stronger. Then they forced the Canaanites to work hard for them. But they didn’t drive them out completely. 

King James Version

13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.
