English Standard Version

16 And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath. (Joh 7:23; Joh 9:16; Joh 15:20; Ac 9:4) 

New International Version

16 So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him. 

New International Reader’s Version

16 Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath day. So the Jewish leaders began to oppose him. 

King James Version

16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
