6 Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons.[1] (2Ch 4:5; Mr 7:3; Joh 3:25)

New International Version

6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from eighty to a hundred and twenty litres.

New International Reader’s Version

6 Six stone water jars stood nearby. The Jews used water from that kind of jar for special washings. They did that to make themselves pure and ‘clean’. Each jar could hold 80 to 120 litres.

King James Version

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
