34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” (Ps 89:4; Ps 110:4; Isa 9:7; Eze 37:25; Lu 1:33; Joh 12:32) 

New International Version

34 The crowd spoke up, ‘We have heard from the Law that the Messiah will remain for ever, so how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up”? Who is this “Son of Man”?’

34 The crowd spoke up. ‘The Law tells us that the Messiah will remain for ever,’ they said. ‘So how can you say, “The Son of Man must be lifted up”? Who is this “Son of Man”?’ 

King James Version

34 The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
