31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” (Lu 1:17; Lu 1:76) 

New International Version

31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptising with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

31 I did not know him. But God wants to make it clear to Israel who this person is. That’s the reason I came baptising with water.’ 

King James Version

31 And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
