Isaiah 9:4

English Standard Version

4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. (Jud 7:19; Jud 8:10; Ps 83:9; Isa 10:5; Isa 10:24; Isa 10:26; Isa 10:27; Isa 14:5; Isa 14:25; Na 1:13; Mt 11:29)

4 For as in the day of Midian’s defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor. 

New International Reader’s Version

4 You set Israel free from Midian long ago. In the same way, you will break the heavy yoke that weighs Israel down. You will break the wooden beams that are on their shoulders. You will break the rods of those who strike them down. 

King James Version

4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
