Habbakuk 2:19

English Standard Version

19 Woe to him who says to a wooden thing, Awake; to a silent stone, Arise! Can this teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it. (1Ki 18:26; Ps 135:17; Jer 10:14; Hab 2:6; Hab 2:9; Hab 2:12; Hab 2:15)

New International Version

19 Woe to him who says to wood, “Come to life!” Or to lifeless stone, “Wake up!” Can it give guidance? It is covered with gold and silver; there is no breath in it.’

New International Reader’s Version

19 How terrible it will be for the Babylonians! They say to a wooden god, “Come to life!” They say to a stone god, “Wake up!” Can those gods give advice? They are covered with gold and silver. They can’t even breathe.’

King James Version

19 Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it.
