Genesis 46:34

English Standard Version

34 you shall say, ‘Your servants have been keepers of livestock from our youth even until now, both we and our fathers,’ in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for every shepherd is an abomination to the Egyptians.” (Ge 37:12; Ge 43:32; Ge 46:28; Ge 46:32; Ex 8:26)

New International Version

34 you should answer, “Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.” Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians.’

New International Reader’s Version

34 You should answer, “We’ve taken care of livestock from the time we were boys. We’ve done just as our fathers did.” It’s the practice of the people of Egypt not to mix with shepherds. So Pharaoh will let you settle in the area of Goshen.’

King James Version

34 That ye shall say, Thy servants'trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we, and also our fathers: that ye may dwell in the land of Goshen; for every shepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.
