Genesis 42:22

English Standard Version

22 And Reuben answered them, “Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood.” (Ge 9:5; Ge 37:21; 1Ki 2:32; 2Ch 24:22; Ps 9:12; Lu 11:50) 

New International Version

22 Reuben replied, ‘Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

22 Reuben replied, ‘Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we’re being paid back for killing him.’ 

King James Version

22 And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.
