Genesis 37:22

English Standard Version

22 And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”—that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father. (Ge 37:29) 

New International Version

22 ‘Don’t shed any blood. Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.’ Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father. 

New International Reader’s Version

22 ‘Don’t spill any of his blood. Throw him into this empty well here in the desert. But don’t harm him yourselves.’ Reuben said that to save Joseph from them. He was hoping he could take him back to his father. 

King James Version

22 And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him; that he might rid him out of their hands, to deliver him to his father again.
