23 They only were hearing it said, “He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.” 

New International Version

23 They only heard the report: ‘The man who formerly persecuted us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

23 They only heard others say, ‘The man who used to attack us has changed. He is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.’ 

King James Version

23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.
