Exodus 13:15

English Standard Version

15 For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the Lord all the males that first open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ (Ex 12:29; Ex 13:13)

New International Version

15 When Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the Lord killed the firstborn of both people and animals in Egypt. This is why I sacrifice to the Lord the first male offspring of every womb and redeem each of my firstborn sons.”

New International Reader’s Version

15 Pharaoh was stubborn. He refused to let us go. So the LORD killed every eldest son in Egypt. He also killed all those born first among the people and animals. That’s why I sacrifice to the LORD every male animal born first. And that’s why I buy back each of my eldest sons for the LORD.”

King James Version

15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.
