Ecclesiastes 8:8

English Standard Version

8 No man has power to retain the spirit, or power over the day of death. There is no discharge from war, nor will wickedness deliver those who are given to it. (De 20:5; Job 14:5; Ec 3:19; Ec 9:11)

New International Version

8 As no-one has power over the wind to contain it, so[1] no-one has power over the time of their death. As no-one is discharged in time of war, so wickedness will not release those who practise it.

New International Reader’s Version

8 No one can stop the wind from blowing. And no one has the power to decide when they will die. No one is let out of the army in times of war. And evil won’t let go of those who practise it.

King James Version

8 There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
