Daniel 1:8

8 But Daniel resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food, or with the wine that he drank. Therefore he asked the chief of the eunuchs to allow him not to defile himself. (Le 3:17; Eze 4:13; Da 1:5; Ho 9:3; 2Co 9:7)

New International Version

8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself in this way.

8 Daniel decided not to make himself ‘unclean’ by eating the king’s food and drinking his wine. So he asked the chief official for a favour. He wanted permission not to make himself ‘unclean’ with the king’s food and wine.

King James Version

8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king' meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
