23 “We found the prison securely locked and the guards standing at the doors, but when we opened them we found no one inside.”

23 ‘We found the jail securely locked, with the guards standing at the doors; but when we opened them, we found no-one inside.’ 

New International Reader’s Version

23 ‘We found the jail locked up tight,’ they said. ‘The guards were standing at the doors. But when we opened the doors, we didn’t find anyone inside.’ 

King James Version

23 Saying, The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within.
