13 And David made a name for himself when he returned from striking down 18,000 Edomites in the Valley of Salt. (Jos 15:62; 2Ki 14:7) 

New International Version

13 And David became famous after he returned from striking down eighteen thousand Edomites[1] in the Valley of Salt. (1Ch 18:12) 

New International Reader’s Version

13 David returned after he had struck down 18,000 men of Edom in the Valley of Salt. He became famous for doing it. 

King James Version

13 And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men .
