2 Samuel 3:35

English Standard Version

35 Then all the people came to persuade David to eat bread while it was yet day. But David swore, saying, “God do so to me and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down!” (Ru 1:17; 2Sa 1:12; 2Sa 12:17)

New International Version

35 Then they all came and urged David to eat something while it was still day; but David took an oath, saying, ‘May God deal with me, be it ever so severely, if I taste bread or anything else before the sun sets!’

New International Reader’s Version

35 Then all of them came and begged David to eat something. They wanted him to eat while it was still day. But David made a promise. He said, ‘I won’t taste bread or anything else before the sun goes down. If I do, may God punish me greatly!’

King James Version

35 And when all the people came to cause David to eat meat while it was yet day, David sware, saying, So do God to me, and more also, if I taste bread, or ought else, till the sun be down.
